It seems like this was an opportunity for you to gloat about your knowledge and thoughts about the work rather than genuinely try to listen to what were the thoughts of the author. Rewatch this episode and see how many times you have interrupted him and how many times when he's planning to say something you digress into another topic without giving him the opportunity to say what he wants to.
