OK, yea, late reply. I'm sure she could have afforded a store bought dress, but some people like to have pride in making their own. She was probably brought up to know about being a seamstress. I made some tops of my own with fabric patterns back in the day. Many women still enjoy making their own clothes. It's not always about saving time & money. That's also why there's crocheting, knitting and needle point.
