People are criticizing your sawyer for having no ear protection. I'm hoping he was using ear plugs, which we didn't see. Thanks for showing us the stump diameter. We who do lots of tree work appreciate that.
hey man interesting and i agree however i really dont appreciate the other poor examples of saw care, of tree cutting, and of lack of ppe on an operator... if you do lots of treework you should agree the unprofessionalism the risks and the piss poor examples, if the dude put that video on facebooks Tree Talk group, where even though its the most encouraging tree group out there that ive ever joined, they would still all tell you the truth i bet. that it was not a good example. dude man dont let the stihl 880 eyes and big poplar mask over the facts there were like 6 things inherently wrong with his practices man, bout the only thing he did right was use the bobcat for bulling it seems
need a hardhat, ear protection, chaps or saw pants, and then re-tighten the chain properly on your saw and put a chainbrake back on it.....otherwise not too bad of a video you had the tree rigged to the bobcat for bulling and it came down nicely...Thanks for sharing!
Some of us arborists have a background in logging and/or forestry. The loggers that wrote in, I'd like to know where you are from. A lot of things some loggers do are simply local practice. Not always sensible industry practice. However, everyone that noticed the loose chain did well to say so. So that he learns. BUT how many guys noticed that the saw was NEW? On a tree this size the new chain could have stretched that much. OK the chain and bar might be cool by now. So go tighten up that NEW chain!
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THAT TREE! YOUR SAFETY IS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE THE HECK WAS YOUR P.P.E!??!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! AND YOU HAD NONE! NONE ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT WORKING SAFELY! i'm sorry i just want you to be safe!
You must be somewhat new to this trade because most of us experienced tree climbers do not start on the felling cut while wearing climbing harnesses, and looking up all the time does you absolutely no good while starting the back cut, maybe take a quick look when you are well into your cut but to look up all the time really tells me a lot about your minimal experience felling large trees. Here in california we have redwoods and fir trees that often are well above 200 feet in heights and so one gains a lot of experience climbing in them for over 35 years, good luck though you seem to handle the 66 pretty well although I would recommend turning it off before posing for all your public P.R. pictures, lol lol
Karel Van Leer I've been logger for 9 years. I agree with you his back cut was piss poor. But the kids got to learn somehow whether you fuck up and lose body part or if you get hit in testicles with the tree branch we gotta learn somehow that's how I learned
Sports Animal okay here's my question what do you wipe your ass with? What do you use to write notes on? Trees right so quit your bitchin and people like me who have loved for 9 years or more do our jobs and we do it damn proud and we come home and we can say our job is well done to make sure people like you can wipe their asses with toilet paper and not their hands and write on a piece of paper and have nice beautiful furniture to sit on or delay on because people like you don't realize that it takes people like us loggers out there to do a dirty man's job that no one else wants to do because you piss poor liberals can't do shit quit your bitchin and start watching Cartoon Network or get a real job and man up and buck up and shut the fuck up
I thought for sure that bad boy was going to barberchair, especially after seeing that rotted out core. Pausing like this during your back cut only increases the chance of this happening. Not to mention your compete lack of PPE, except maybe you're wearing steel toes. Also, clearly you didn't climb and top that tree....so you are wearing a harness why exactly? Putting videos like this on RU-vid may lead some homeowners to believe that you know what you are doing, then they'll replicate your "method" and kill themselves. Take a course if you like running saws.
