This is Alice's Extra Stage theme from Touhou 5: Mystic Square "This book contains the most powerful magic you've ever seen, and now I'm going to show it to you!" Creepy Alice picture is creepy ._.
No, she just was reading the book and she gets to the end of the book and feels a sense of accomplishment but then she looks up and realizes what her life is and knows that she is on line to the gallows after the the more troublesome youkai are eliminated with other enemies she knows she will be next in line like the leader of a dying country knowing eventually the enemy will get to him/her and kill him/her.
@@kalecavanaugh4067 I think ZUN said he wouldn't do Phantasm stages anymore. In Toby Fox's interview with ZUN, ZUN said that he did a Phantasm stage because while developing PCB, he felt like he constantly had to one-up himself, and he isn't really doing that anymore. Go check out the interview and you'll see what he said.
Something interesting about the Touhou lore is that Alice's grimoire is considered a rare treasure of Gensokyo. Even the three faries living in the Forest of Magic had heard the legend about "a grimoire that shines brilliantly in seven colors". Just what is that book?
Who knows, maybe it's actually more powerful than Yukari or Shinki's spells. Maybe Alice is the most powerful being in Gensokyo. I mean, if she keeps it locked and sealed because of her not wanting to use her full power, then she must be more powerful than we think.
If she keeps it with her at all times yet never ONCE opens it, it's gotta be something pretty damn destructive. One day, though... Something will happen. Gensokyo will end up in a truly dire situation, and she'll open the book once more. Given enough time, even the smallest possibility becomes a certainty.
Actually, that is a long running gag. Zun maybe kinda forgetful at times. Alice's eye colour changes nearly in every game, just like Sakuya's Bre (knived)
I still believe that Alice cast a universal recreation spell after the ending of Mystic Square, and she is the only one who remembers what the heck happend before TH06... Well, since ZUN already stated that Alice is a special character in 2hu universe (and we don't know exactly what this means), anything is possible
A Shooting Star in yuuka's story, reimu says "everything went back to normal when i defeated you back then!" and marisa says "if she were here right now..." who else could she be talking about?
After when Reimu was defeated, didn't she act like she was talking about something else? And I guess I can see how you think that, but when I played I thought she was talking about Reimu haha.
What if pc 98 is just a story of Alice's grimoire that got real and that Alice is only substitute and the actual alice is Grimoire to observe the pc 98 character. I mean she never let's it go also another thing would be that alice is only vessel for grimoire. Yeah random stuff.
She single handily wiped an entire universes cannon on its head with a single book, and yet she is the weakest extra boss... Damn Touhou girls are extremely OP
@@User-gk1yi Marisa fights a Fairy, and "wins" Alice fights 2 Powerful Youkai and 2 other Girls, and destroys the world, she is BY FAR the strongest Magician.
All the theories are interesting on Alice's potential. Though, I find it odd that some forgot one bit of info. Didn't her book get damaged at some point. Ripped pages damaged. If that is to be treated as canon, then we can say that Alice can't use the strongest of magic because parts of the strongest spells are on missing pages.
I didn't know that but I like it since it can be used to explain why she claims to have sealed the grimoire. If no one knows its damaged to the point of being near useless (or even just reduced in power) then sealing it makes her look responsible AND powerful. She is essentially bluffing.
NoGoodHandlesLeft That is a possibility. There's two other possibilities as well. 1: The book may have been sealed to prevent further damage. 2: The book may have been sealed to prevent whatever damage may happen from unleashing fragments of a spell that has no means of stopping.
Have you heard the theory that PC-98 Alice is actually still in what remains of Makai, and Windows Alice is just one of her dolls? it's probably complete BS, but really cool nonetheless.
The Shade Sorcerer It's a good theory, but I don't believe it. Alice is said to have tried creating a more self aware doll. However, it has been said by some that she has been unsuccessful. To create a doll that almost looks and acts human in her place would be more difficult than making a self aware doll.
She doesn't like to use all her power in battle. According to the character bios in the manuals and such, if she were to open and lose again, it would be proof to her that she hasn't gotten any stronger at all and she'd have no reason to keep going.
Huh. So basically, she doesn't like the idea of relying on the Grimoire to cheese fights for her, and wants to get stronger by herself. That's pretty deep actually.
When I first saw this picture, I said~ "Oh look, it's Marisa without her hat in a white dress" (Took me a week to figure out this was Alice, and not a young Marisa.)
If there was ever a last Touhou game I would guess that the incident would be: Alice's Grimoire was stolen by someone and is using it to destroy Gensokyo or destroying the barrier of the human world and Gensokyo or Alice Lost control or something? Making her use the Grimoir and her full power for destruction. Either Alice will probably appear as an Extra stage boss or a stage 6 boss and the culprit is also in vice versa.
Maybe she could be a playable character as well, like in a gensokyo sized treasure hunt with : Reimu and yukari, Marisa and Alice and the three fairies of light (they might work like mari patchi in touhou 11 since they were after Alice's book in a touhou comic)
I could totally see this in an IN sorta game, where each of the main protagonists is paired up with one of the stronger Youkai/People of Gensokyo; ex: Reimu/Yukari, Reisen/Eirin, Sanae/Kanako (or Suwako), Youmu/Yuyuko, Sakuya/Remillia (or flandre?) heck if were allowing ourselves beyond the Protagonists, give us like, i dunno; Komachi/Eiki, Satori/Koishi, Maybe something like Aya/Suika? i dunno! but a final touhou game like this would be really cool.
what if someone captured reimu, marisa, and yuuka, the last remnants of the old timeline, and threatened their life to pressure alice into using the grimoire, wanting to witness its power
(EDIT : After numerous people replied to this comment, I have chosen to preface it to give some context. I wrote this comment when I was 13 years old. I was quite into Game Theory at the time and the PC-98 translation patches weren't out yet. At that time, it was commonly believed that these games were "darker" than their Windows counterparts, and so like the edgy teenager I was, I took advantage of that. There are several comments of about the same level of cringe left all around RU-vid. Though I can't delete all of them, I usually remove any I come across. This one, though, attracted considerable attention and so, I chose to write this preface instead. Oh, and as for the possibly wonky English - I was still learning the language at the time.) ---------------------------------------- I have it all covered, guys. The canon reboot. I have an explanation for it. Well it is a theory, but I do believe in it myself. The cast of playable characters in Mystic Square went as follows: Reimu, Marisa, Mima, Yuuka. Oddly enough, three of these four survived the reboot. The fourth one is, as we know, Alice. And here it goes. Notice that Alice had no particular reason to be in Stage 3. She just was there, for no explicit motive or anything. And where was she going? To where you came from. The human world. Consider this: if Alice IS, like fans have speculated, Shinki's adoptive daughter, why would she go away? Well, it has been said that Makai is actually highly poisonous to humans, am I right? And what was Alice at that time? A human, yes indeed. Her only chance would be...not to be human anymore. Now it is actually unknown where the Grimoire was located before she took hold of it -it could be anywhere actually, but I have some reasons to think it was somewhere in the human world -hence she was going this way. But have you ever stopped to consider what kind of powers this thing bears? According to the user herself, "the most powerful magic you've ever seen", and in Gensokyo, you gotta say, that's quite a thing. If it is so powerful, that could pretty much mean a simple thing: a human taking possession of it, better, TAMING IT, to use it when she wants to, would shift the whole power balance of Gensokyo. I do mean the WHOLE thing. And let me tell you, shifting that kind of balance is not a good idea. The consequences can be pretty extreme. You know, such as unleashing a powerful spell of magical destruction that would make everyone vanish away? Oh wait, doesn't that sound familiar. The four survivors help this theory even better: _Reimu is a miko, she is protected by divine powers; _Yuuka is insanely powerful, being capable of a genocide as a simple GAME. So she could pretty much shield herself. _Alice was immune since the spell came from what she was holding. _Marisa, however, is my strongest proof. Notice, once again, Mima was never seen again, unlike her fellow playables. And Marisa was quite simply a human, with no particular power -just lots, lots of training. No native ability or anything. So she wouldn't have survived...if not for Mima, that is. The spirit just sacrificed herself for the witch to live. Simple as that. Giving her a shield with her magic powers, she used up all of her strength and "died". Those who couldn't protect themselves actually didn't die. Remember the expression I used? Vanish away. They either went to somewhere else to protect themselves (i.e. Shinki) or got reincarnated via a magic "transfer" (you could guess Mai became Cirno, for example). It would also give an explanation for why Makai blew up in the last fight with Shinki. Sure, she was using her full demonic power, wrecking up her whole world, but don't you think she would have rebuilt it afterwards? She would, except if she knew it was useless. I see gainsayings coming already, like "They could re-appear at any time". Well, sorry, not all characters, and we all know this. Mima however is the main "No" of this theory for some people. They tell me that she could return at any time and all of it would be made invalid. However, I did say that she was a spirit; having no life at first, why couldn't she re-appear? It would just take a while and, well, it has taken a while already. So yeah, what do you think about that?
wing zero Makai in UFO stage 5 is extremely different from the MS Makai, you have to recognize. And did you see Shinki anywhere in it? Nope. Remember, I said she wrecked her whole world and didn't rebuild it because she knew it was pointless. And actually, UFO's Makai gives me MORE evidence to support it. Remember the MS Makai? There were residents in there (Luize, Mai, Yuki), there was a lake, and there was the giant Pandemonium where Shinki used to live. None of that, to my knowledge, is present anymore: Makai has become a dimension of ruins and chaos, where Byakuren was SEALED as a PUNISHMENT. So, yeah.
This is rife with late 90's - mid 2000's Rockman vibes. Something about it just... feels like a Wily Castle theme, but I can't quite place my finger on it.
Alice could be the strongest character if she'd use the Grimoire book, but i guess she's just afraid. Also like blara2401 stated the grimoire contains the most powerful magic there is, also in some legends its called "The Grand Grimoire" So i agree to that, she got in it the human world.
According to "The Grimoire of Marisa" Reimu's Fantasy Heaven was too powerful to be a spellcard until Marisa gave it a time limit. (Even then, Fantasy Heaven is still overkill in Hisoutensoku) I'd guess that the Grimoire's best magic is also too powerful to be used as a spellcard.
CrypticNazo The Grimoire of Marisa was written by ZUN. ZUN just doesn't go and make canon random fan works. In fact, he has said that he doesn't want to be influenced by fan works.
Like I said, my mistake :p I realize English doesn't have any way to convey lightheartness or sarcasm in text like this, but I'm not even the slightest bit upset or offended. I've corrected it anyway.
(Shoutout to @blara2401, thanks for theory) So, this comment said that something happened when Alice opened the book and also lost Following the theory about Shinki beign the adoptive mother of Alice, she may went to the Human World (or close enough) to give Alice the Grimoire, when Reimu & Marisa attacked Alice, she wanted revenge, she grabbed the Grimoire and got going in search of her enemies. Reimu & Marisa came back close to Makai, Alice was waiting for them, so then, she opened in front of them, after beign defeated twice, she got in so much anger, that she wanted to reboot the entire reality, at the point that this Magic was stronger than Yukari and Hecatia themselves, and then, she did what she wanted, she did the reboot in anger not knowing what will happen, in that precise moment, everything went to white, and a new Gensokyo was born, only a few survived the implosion Reimu: beign protected by the divine gods, or even Genji, that explain why he doesn't appear anymore Marisa: beign protected by her beloved teacher, Mima, after the event of Touhou 5, she doesn't appear anymore, coincidence? Yuuka: beign powerful enough to make a genocide for fun, makes that Implosion weak agaisnt Yuuka But, what exactly happened to the other girls?, where did they go?, well, i have a theory-explanation Yumeko: was reincarnated as Sakuya Kurumi: Reincarnated as Remilia Orange: Reincarnated as Meiling And the list goes on, but, then again, what happened to Mima, Shinki and yada yada who dissapeared, they where reborn as Magic, Shinki, passed her Magic to Alice to make her dolls alive, MIMA, passed her Magic to Marisa, to make gigantic beams with the help of the Mini Hakkero that Rinnosuke, a new character in the reboot, gave her, to help her defeat the enemies, the only ones who knows about Mima are Reimu, Marisa, Alice and Yuuka, but none of them talk about it, to avoid conflict or uncomfortable talk. After the reboot, Marisa, and Alice woke up at their respective houses, Alice wakes up confused, doesn't recognize her own clothes, and even the enviroment, she was in the border of crying, she doesn't remember what happened, then Marisa appeared, hugging her in relief, Alice immediatly separate her, Marisa asked why, Alice said that they where enemies, but Marisa says that she is her best friend, Alice was confused, she doesn't get Along with her at all, little did she knew, that her, was going to be a Support for a long time Reimu appeared at her Shrine, pretty confused but not that much, she asked herself why is the enviroment so different, she doesn't care, and begins in the search of them. Many years have passed, Remilia and company already arrived at their Mansion and stuff Alice after knowing what power lies in that Grimoire, she sealed it and never used it again, thats why in SWR/Hisoutensoku she is the only one with only 4 Cards cost for her last Spell, because she has fear about her own full power, so thats why she never uses a 5 Spell cost Spell Card.
You know, there was one time she was called *The Witch Of Death* and not some funny nickname like Seven Coloured Puppeteer. 😂 I am sad that more people knew Alice as Marisa's stalker (which is non canon) than Alice as former Makai resident.
It says a lot about what the hell is in that book when Alice herself hasn't used it ONCE since she used it in Mystic Square. If she's so reluctant to unleash it, yet has it with her at all times(unless the book she carries ISN'T the grimoire, but I find that unlikely; she wouldn't let something so powerful leave her sight)... What could it possibly hold?
I guess I can't be alone in liking the PC-98 music more than the Windows Touhou games? I've always thought 16-bit FM chip sounds suited Touhou far more than that goddamn MIDI trumpet...
But ZunPets.com make me cry~ Because of how awesome they are~ ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsDwgRJbaaI.html ) * Great example on how zunpets can make a song really cool :D (And make me cry) * Watch and hear the difference in the end of the song. One is just the midi of the song in DDC, then it switches into "omfg its too sexy pls stop" mode.
Kokoro wearing Sekibanki head Gengetsu lives in a world created by herself. She created it purposely without spellcard rules. So, Her final attack is just a little harder try. If she really wanted, she would just distort the world itself. But, Only Gengetsu is Capable of doing this. Until now, i knew only about 2 characters capable of creating new worlds. Shinki and The Puckish Angel.
*[Alice of the Magic Land]* ALICE In the games on the PC-98, Alice lived in Makai calling herself "The Magician of Makai" and had a black book that's called the "Grimoire of Alice". She also created her own "Wonderland" in Makai and fought with five colours: red, blue, purple, green and yellow. (from TouhouWiki) ZUN's comment about the track: "Compared to my other extra stage boss themes, this has heavy emphasis on the rhythm. No matter how cheap their attacks are, emerge victorious with a superior groove (^^;;"
Oh shit you hear that? That mystical silence? The deafening nothing? Isn't it just music to your ears? Whether you observe it, it is indeed a musical note. The words you cannot hear often speak the loudest. No one likes to hear that they'll be unable to carry over when the universe ends .... Especially by one of the few whom will.
it would be a nice plot if it was Alice's doing why almost no one remembers the events before EoSD for future games and if ZUN would connect the Windows and PC-98 Era
If Alice was a League of Legends player, she would find a champion on which she exceeds everyone at, and would always win with it, but yet, she would stick to something else because she thinks it's cooler even if she is constantly losing.
People that gets exposed and or live in Makai becomes... Questionable. Alice is not an exception to that rule and just those eyes says that she has seen some serious shit.
Apparently, she doesn't like relying on it, and wants to get stronger without using it as a crutch. I still think she'd break it out in a genuinely dire situation though.
at full power, Alice. Patche is the best magician in gensokyo, but she is not a fighter, since she focuses most of her time in investigations and grimmoires instead of battles (like marisa) thats why she is not as strong as alice or marisa when it comes to danmaku fights, even with a lot of spellcards on her side.
