how are the placements and career opportunities offered at the birbeck university?
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
I was working so I didn't seek them out, but I'd treat it as any other recruitment/careers centre and say they are a helpful bonus but don't rely on any single source. You should be doing most of the work yourself, making connections, reaching out to people, offering your services for free where you can.

What would be a bridge between MSc psych conversion and clinical psychology?
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
A lot of clinical experience. ClinPsy courses are very difficult to get into and will usually require work as an assistant psychologist or similar role. Some people do additional MSc or Certificate courses but not strictly necessary. Check out the unis you want to do ClinPsy at and check their requirements.

I recently graduated my Bachelors in Applied Psychology in India and i want to continue my Masters in UK and i recently got an offer from Birkbeck in Msc Psychology conversion, If i take this course will i still be able to continue DClinpsy or PsychD and become a clincal psychologist?
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 5 дней назад
If you want to take the masters, go for it. But if I weee you I would try and get my Bachelors in Applied Psychology accredited by the BPS, as this would mean you don’t need the conversion MSc. You could apply directly for DPsych/DClinPsy but will need relevant caring experience and maybe a certificate in psychological therapies or counselling. Keep in mind DClinPsych is a different beast and incredibly difficult to get in to.

@@Marios_CG So if i’ll be taking Msc in psychology conversion course in UK i probably have to apply for BPS Graduate Membership right from India or can i apply after my admission to the University?
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 4 дня назад
@faktluangi If you do the MSc , you’ll automatically get a BPS accredited degree because the MSc is BPS accredited. What I’m saying is you may not need to do the MSc at all, just get your Bachelor’s reviewed and accredited by the BPS and you save yourself the money from paying for the MSc.

Hello! I am planning to do my undergraduate in psychology either in the UK or the USA, and then pursue my postgraduate in the UK to practice my profession there. The USA degrees are accredited with the APA. Thus, I would have to do a conversion course to get BPS accreditation. I wanted to enquire about the cons of doing a conversion degree as opposed to a normal masters course. Will I be put at a disadvantage when it comes to job opportunities or being able to practice in the UK with an American bachelor degree and a British masters conversion course? And for the masters conversion course, would you suggest taking a general Msc Psychology course or one that specializes in a certain field? Thank you!
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
You can only do a conversion psychology course if you have already done an undergraduate course in a different subject. A normal masters course in psychology is only possible if you already have a psychology undergrad. Therefore the conversion course is only for people changing path into psychology, a normal masters in psychology is for furthering your existing psychology university training.

@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
Only if you want to become an accredited psychologist or if you want to do more degrees that require BPS accreditation in the UK. Have a think about what kinds of jobs you're wanting to do after, and only do the conversion course if those jobs/courses require a psychology degree/conversion course.

Here's a good video on that:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_9ORdRwgSS8.html&ab_channel=GetPsyched It's better for you to think of what job YOU want first, not what all the options are. You might decide to do something that doesn't require a conversion course so don't waste your money.

Hi Marios, thank you so much for the information. I'm planning to do a part time psychology conversion master with a full time job here in London. My did my undergraduate in Law and there was zero quantitative element in it, and neither for my job. Would you say the foundation course is a must for this degree, or the master's itself would equip you with the relevant skills? I also don't see a foundation course offered by any other universities - is this unique to Birkbeck? Thank you!
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
Hi! Glad it helped. No you don't need the foundation course, I don't think Birkbeck provide it anymore, it's probably just part of the first year now. Ask them if you can prepare in any specific way if you haven't studied statistical methods before, I'm sure they'll be happy to help.

Hi Ashish, why are you looking for a UK Masters in Psychology when you already have one from India, by the way? You could get your Indian MA certified by the British Psychological Society so that it counts for the same as a UK one - that would be a lot easier and cheaper for you, saving you doing a whole second Masters.

@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 2 года назад
@@TheClassicMusicCover it depends what you want out of your future. If you're wanting to go into counselling the process is very different (and you have to focus on getting practical experience). I am actually looking into how this works in the UK so perhaps I can make a video on that. I would suggest looking at the accrediting bodies in the UK and their recommendations: British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Association of Child Psychotherapists, British Psychoanalytic Council, UK Council for Psychotherapy

What types of questions will be on the exam? What material will be covered? And how much will the exam count toward the final grade?
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 11 месяцев назад
@nicolececile6253 all of those will change over time - I finished my masters three years ago, so the best thing for you to do would be to get as many past papers as you can from the University so you understand the format. Also your course guidebooks will tell you about what percentage they count for etc. for preparing for exams: Write out the model answers for each of the questions in your past papers and then memorise them so that you can write them from memory (with a timer is best). That is the best method I have found.

@@Marios_CG Thanks for your response! I would like to ask one more thing that as an international student i won't benefit from evening classes because of work hours limitation. I'm considering Berkbeck because of it's good ranking and comparatively decent fee. Does it's name benefit our career? (Can we claim we studied from UoL?). Most importantly i expect to network with the mature employed students for future job prospects but i get the feel their will be very few of those and most will be international students?

Hi, thanks for making this video! I was wondering in your experience if it was possible to do a lot of the lectures online if we weren't able to attend in person? Also whether you think it would be possible to do a full time version of the course with a part time job - 2/3 days (the opposite to you sort of!) Thanks!
@Marios_CG
@Marios_CG 3 года назад
Sure thing. Yes I think you could reverse the time layout between work and study as you say. Birkbeck record all lectures so it's easy to catch up or revise through those which is convenient. Though I would say (unless you know you work otherwise) that it's a lot easier to focus/get into the rhythm of a real lecture rather than a recorded one. Plus you can ask questions and hang out with your classmates. Hope that helps.
