I recently cruised on the beautiful MSC Virtuosa on a 7 night cruise from Southampton. Having spent the previous 2 cruises in an inside cabin, I was able to use the money I'd saved to treat myself to a balcony cabin on this occasion! Windows! Daylight! Access to the outdoors!!! Luxury...

Hi great video. My daughter found you as we’ve booked her onto a deluxe balcony on deck 10 for the fjords. As a frequent Virtuosa sailor, just a couple of points of clarification. The nesting set is a coffee table and a stool. There is no plug next to the bed other than the USB, but you can ask Guest services for an extension lead to plug in your C-Pap machine and finally….the retractable clothes line is a God-send for many who don’t want to pay for the laundry service and wash their smalls in the sink 😀

Cheers!!! I get annoyed about not being able to charge my phone overnight beside the bed but you're right, a c-pap is a non-negotiable so its good to hear the cruise ship has anticipated this need!!! And I agree the washing line is handy, provided it reaches the slot!

Hello, we have booked this cruise for December and it will be our first ever cruise. We have not added a drinks package but I’m just wondering if we can bring things in from port like a bottle of wine or fruit juice etc? Thank you

Hi Lynsey. Unfortunately, cruise lines don't allow passengers to bring (much) booze aboard at the start of a cruise or from ports. They think it is depriving them of revenue - which it probably is. You'll go through an airport style security check when you get on the ship - you think they're looking for bombs but they're actually looking for booze... You are welcome to buy stuff in ports, but it will be confiscated, sorry, securely held for you and will be returned to you on the last day of the cruise. You are allowed to bring a small amount aboard at the start of the cruise - wines only I think. I have bought stuff in ports to take home and its not been spotted by the security room, but it is a bit of a lottery. Fruit juice might be an easier category to negotiate on board...

Hi Matt, I've watched your recent videos on virtuosa as I'm cruising in a week with my wife and 2 toddlers. I had 1 question I hope you can answer. (edited) I noticed you had answered someone to say you place suitcases under the bed. just wondered how many would fit? hoping to take 3 medium suitcases and 2 handluggages

Mine fit comfortably under the bed and you could get 2 or 3 under there. Plenty of room!

Hi Matt, Spent the last hour watching your channel. well done. I need your help. I am booked for my first every cruise, on the Virtuosa this month for France and Spain. I have a premium balcony room, which i believe is one above yours. I know on your last vid you made a comment on the worthiness of the floor above yours with the height being 19 floors. My wife booked this cruise whilst intoxicated at a charity event, knowing full well i have the sea legs of a jelly. I can't even watch VR without going green. So the choice of room was more than luck than judgment. Anyway, my questions are: 1) Where do you put your suitcases? 2) Should you pack light for a cruise due to the lack of room. 3) We want to get off the ship at the ports and explore rather than do excursions. Is this easy to do? 4) Any tips for seasickness 5) Any finally which of the 3 main restaurants should we ask for, or is this randomly selected. Scared and excited over this. . I am a seasoned travel, having lived in both Canada and the USA for many years, but boats scare the hell out of me. I blame the TV. In the 80's the Christmas movie of choice for my family was the Poseidon adventure followed by the titanic in the 90's. the negative RU-vid reviews have me worried, but as you say. you can't judge anything on a single experience. If this boats capsizes, however i will make an exception.

Peter!!! Thanks so much. First point - don't worry - you'll gave a great time! When the ship is moving you may very well not even realise - this isn't a fishing boat that bobs with the waves, its a massive structure with extensive, complex stabilisation technology that smooths things out almost completely. Not completely in really bad weather, but even then its nothing like what you'd experience in a small boat on a calm day... Suitcase fits under the bed. As for what to pack - if you're of the Downton Abbey mindset with 5 changes of clothes for each phase of the day (including white tie for dinner) then give it some thought. Otherwise, something for the day (when its hot) and something for the evening (when you'll be predominantly inside in air conditioning). I can't really advise on seasickness but I've seen people wearing the wristbands and the little dot things on the side of the neck - I really don't think you'll have an issue...
