******************UPDATE FOR X3 FRAME GEN MODE************************* sorry i forgot this part When using X3 mode you need to make sure that you set your frame cap accordingly as well as your refresh rate for the monitor. Like I explained in the video if you are a user that can get 40 FPS Natively and you do not have an 80 hertz option for your refresh rate for the monitor and you do not want to drop down to 60 hertz then what you could do in this situation is to use 40fps As your cap and then use the times three mode and set your screen refresh rate to 120 hertz. If you have a 240hz monitor and can get 80fps natively in the sim then x3 will be good there also , set your fps to 79cap Or drop your refresh of the monitor to 160hz and set x3 mode and use 52fps cap. So as you can see the X3 mode can come in handy for those people who are getting between 30 and 60 FPS and have a higher Refresh rate monitor. X3 mode make sure that you set your frame cap to at least 1/3 of your refresh rate that you set in your Nvidia control panel And like I showed in the video I like to go one step farther and just reduce that FPS by one. The closer you keep your interpolated fps to the set refresh of the monitor the smoother it will be And to do that you want to make sure that You do not fall below your capped frame rate but as long as you are using dxgi capture method and if you do fall below your cap frame rate dxgi should interpolate lower for you and it really shouldn't make that much of a difference. *****************************************************************************************************************
Great work! However - as others have pointed out - GSync enabled gives horrendous input lag, at least on my machine (4090 7800X3D LG42 4K HDR 120hz monitor). I tried disabling GSync altogether, and disabling it for MSFS and Upscale, but still the lag was insane when enabling RTSS. Since I’m an HDR user as well as a heavy X-Plane user, I’ve dug around for methods to improve HDR in X-Plane (as it doesn’t support HDR in the true sense), and landed on SpesialK, which also features a FrameRateLimiter, and a lot of customizable controls to tweak stuff in order to reduce latency. Long story short: Disabling GSync via SpecialK + limit FPS to half refresh rate -1 did the trick! Seems like GSync sets the refresh rate to the sim output - in my case 59 FPS - regardless of what the upscale / frame gen provides, which I suppose is to be expected. Disabling all DLSS features via SpecialK also reduces latency.
There's lots of people out there who have different takes on settings you are the only one bar one who is spot on your take always turns out well I always look forward to you putting a new one out good man
First of all, thanks for your detailed and highly instructive video. You explained everything very well (as always) and your steps are easy to follow. I had been using DX12 with FG, and when it worked, it was great - but when it didn't, it was a disaster. Many times after moving around in DX12 (MSFS 'High' settings, i9-10850k, 4070ti) I would notice stutters. Not the kind that you say "oh darn, I'm getting stutters", but the kind where the game is literally unplayable (1 or 2 FPS at the most, very jarring). Oddly enough, I could temporarily clear it by going to Settings, changing something, then changing it right back, applying the 'non' change, then returning to the sim. Anyway, I'd been fighting that for months and assumed that if I wanted DX12 FG then that was the price I had to pay. On my first tries with LS, I stayed with DX12 and FG on. That was clearly a mistake for me as several times I locked up completely and the only way to clear it was to toggle the 'Scale' button in LS off and on. I then tried DX11 again with Ultra settings, and it works like a champ. My generic test is to land at KMIA with FSLTL running (150 IFR, so I'm getting a lot of planes). Under DX12 and FG, it was always a stutter fest. Using LS and DX11, I can run under Ultra and still have a nice experience with some minimal stuttering but nothing like DX12. i did notice that when on the MSFS screen, my mouse goes to about half the size as it does on the other screens and is harder to find. I didn't notice any settings on the LS app to adjust that - do you know of a way to make my mouse bigger? Thanks again for the great job. This app is well worth the money for me.
Watched all your performance videos and this one is the icing on the cake with the frame interpolation. I started off with potato graphics with low fps to now a stunning looking, butter smooth sim, best part being no hardware upgrade required! Learnt a lot too, thanks heaps | RTX 3060 + intel i7-12700k
Can i limit fps to 20 in riva tuner and use 3x mode. Because in 2x mode when in a busy area my fps drops to twentyish and that will drop my lossless scaling app frames to below 60
Game changer! I’m now completly maxed out Ultra, etc. on my 3090Ti on an ASUS 41.5” 3840x2160 @120hz and getting 60-89 FPS at KSFO. Without LS I’m getting 30ish with a mix of high/Ultra. Thanks for the awesome videos!
Works great for me BUT lossless scaling freezes now and again. The game continues to run in the background, a frozen frame remains on the monitor. Any tips?
Awesome video very detailed. Thank you and 2 questions Is it work with 3 monitor? ( I do see you have 2) how to enable for all 3? And if my monitor 165HZ what should I enter at NVIDIA/Riva tuner?
I’ve tried to like this program over the past few months. Yes, it gives a smooth experience but the picture quality had glimmers and didn’t look as good. Plus having to hit my windows key to go to other monitors was a pain. It’s give and take. I’m sure some will love it especially if you don’t have top end hardware.
a couple things check my nvidia control panel guide, link in the description. then make sure to tick the multi monitor check box at 12:24 . but it still may be hit or miss for some people
Jon, I've been playing around with the settings suggested in your video. I'm running 3 - 55" 60 hz native refresh Rate TVs on a RTX 4090 AND 4 additional displays on a second GPU RTX 2080TI (Yes, all on one PC (5800X3D). First, RT kills my performance when adjusting to 30 or 29 FPS. IF I zero it out I get 21/42. V-Sync off and still a little jerky. Also, The smoothness is really only noticable on my Center Screen (The one I select when "Scaling" is initiated. The Left and Right TVs are not as Smooth. With all that said the over all performance is better than without using LOSSLESS. Thanks for you efforts!
Thank you .. from what I've been hearing the scaling tool will only fg the main monitor or 1 monitor at a time and won't fg all monitors unfortunately.
Thanks for the Video. I have a Problem with LS that after several times it starts to get stuttering altough the FPS are the same. I can only get rid of them by pressing Alt+Enter twice. Then it is smooth again for a few moments
It wasn't clear to me, as you demonstrated 144hz, but since you're using your Acer monitor too (limited to 60hz) do you normally have your Dell monitor set to 60hz to match the Acer? Also, Is this necessary if you don't plan to use more than one monitor for the simulator itself? For example, I like using my other monitors for other utilities while flying (like Little Nav Map, OBS, etc)... Would it be necessary for me to lower the refresh of the monitor I fly the simulator on, to match the other monitors, that are NOT being used by the simulator?
I don't use my second monitor for the simulator at all I mostly fly VR but yes if I were going to use both monitors I would limit my refresh rate so that both monitors are going to be the same. However if you're not going to use your secondary monitor for the simulator then the software is not Using frame generation on that monitor also in the user interface for the frame generation tool you can select which monitor you only want the frame generation to occur on which would probably be good in your situation so this way when you click off of your simulator onto your second monitor to use navigraph or something like that that it doesn't try to frame generation your your navigraph or anything on your secondary monitor. Then you would just need to adjust your refresh rate on the monitor that you're using for the simulator only as well as your capped frame rate you may also want to set a specific profile in the Riva tuner in your case as well so this way it doesn't limit your FPS on any of your other applications and you're only limiting it on Microsoft flight simulator.
Thanks for the video...been looking at this application but I don't do anything like this until I get your input. Question...I use the Auto FPS App and wonder should I still use it after setting this up? If so what FPS target in the Auto FPS App should I go for. I have my monitor set at 60 hz refresh rate (it can go to 144 but I know with my set up that would not be realistic) and also cap it at 60 hz in Riva. I then set the Auto FPS Target PC FPS for 40 and it runs very well. Thanks for your input. Garry
@@2020fsers I just set mine up this way. It was working great with X2, but I saw this post and thought what the heck, give it a try, and it is smoother still using X3. Can see the results for sure in the cockpit moving around. I have been messing with these settings now for 3 hours after watching your video. You really have to play around till it satisfies you. Thanks again.
@2020fsers, I installed the Riva Tuner, on my desktop, and when i click it to open it, it just wants, to re-install it, and does not open it, anyway, YOU can help me, with this problem, it should just open up the application, Thanks, in advance.
AT LONG LAST, your the only place I've managed to find out about using this with VR, I had the same results...everything got a whole lot worst. Keep up your great videos.
Hi, this was a great video. I don't know what I should set my fps cap because I have a 165hz monitor, my sim cannot natively sustain 53fps(165/3) so what should I set my fps cap to? Thanks appreciate it!
Amazing! Thank you for the vid. The only thing that I have noticed is that the colors are terrible when my TV display is set to HDR on. I'll have to see if there is a fix for this.
Works beautifully, but now I need to figure out how to use SLC and FSHud ATC with it. They overlay and even if I put them on other monitors, they kill the performance gain.
@@2020fsers I did, I have it set for my ultra widescreen, but regardless of what I do with SLC or FSHud, they are still in overlay mode and so has the issue with performance degradation that you mentioned, even if I move them to other monitors.
I use the fenix and i get like 38fps in the sim with 144hz monitor what would be the best thing to adjust or use on the lossless scaling. I get lots of laggy movement when i look around in the cockpit
Hmm that's is a gamble my gut says no but it may be better than the quality you have now but may still not be perfect. If you have 5 to spare try it but it's 50/50
Hi thanx for the vid. The result of this tool is only applicable to the main monitor/TV. I have to TVs that both can do 120hz. Main can double its FPS bit not the 2nd one. This has always been the case with frame gen. If you find a way that works on all monitors/TV that would be fantastic
How do you know that the second monitor is not doubling its frame rate because the frame rate counter is on your main monitor so how are you able to calculate that?
Seems I'll be able to hold off on buying a new graphics card for a good while still, lol. The other thing which should be mentioned is that if you cap your FPS to half your monitor refresh rate, you also save your GPU from a lot of strain. Yes, Lossless Scaling does add a bit of overhead to the card (I've tested and confirmed this multiple times), but if you cap at half of your monitor refresh rate the GPU actually gets some breathing room and stays surprisingly cool (and quiet). For someone like me who still runs an RX590 (yes, yes I know) and bog standard 60Hz monitor, this works a treat, even when bumping in-game settings to high or ultra in most cases (very little difference between medium and ultra settings if you ever care to compare, so my suggestion is to stay on high max). Anyway, just my 2 pennies. Thanks for the vid - helped me figure out what I was missing regarding the app setup.
Great video. My problem is, I followed everything down to the T, but I still get screen tearing/shimmering when I pan around. I have capped the FPS, turned V sync off within etc but still get the tearing.
I have a very annoying bug where lossless scaling makes the cursor vanish and I cant get it back except by scaling and turning it back on. This is really killing the enjoyment of using this with MSFS. I have 3 monitors. I only use the sim on the center 1440p Ultra wide while the 1080P monitors on the left and right handle other apps like Navigraph, FSLTL etc. Sometimes the cursor will vanish in the sim but be visible on the side monitors then sometimes it will be vice versa, be visible in sim but not on side monitors.
@@2020fsers Yeah I did thus my frustration. I have looked at several threads on Steam Forums and other places and I am not alone. This happens to others too and the creator even seemed to be puzzled that it was happening at all in one of the threads.
On my side, I am quite satisfied with the free FSR3.1 mod coupled with Anti Aliasing mode "AMD FSR2 - Quality" (both AMD origin ==> best compatibility) . I also use FSLTL Traffic injector and the last MSFS Map Enhancement 8.0.8 with Google map. I am above 60 FPS whatever conditions (weather, airport etc.) with an RTX2060 - 12GB GPU and a AMD 5900X CPU. To get a crispy image I am not using GeForce Experience filters which are FPS greedy, just the anti aliasing above and the NVIDIA driver settings "Image Scaling - Sharpen at 100%" + "Anisotropic Filtering at 16" (and OFF in the MSFS general options to avoid double load) Note : I use 100% for Object and Terrain Level of Details and most of the rest in Ultra (specifically all the seven first parameters). I do not use MSI afterburner at all and run MSFS in DEVMODE with 2 monitors, i.e., 3840x1080 pxls (Half 4K) - VSYNC OFF Results are crispy and smooth as butter w/o any stuttering. Cheers
@@2020fsers My pleasure, I forgot to say that I boosted my CPU at a 4.950 GHz since most of the time I am limited by the main thread. This fact let me doubtful about upgrading my GPU to a 40 series : what do you think ? Kind regards
@@2020fsers you are right but the 4070 ti super is so attractive with its 256 bits bus, technologically speaking . It would provide even more fluidity using the bar option that I do not have on my Asus 2060 12G. But I am afraid to burn more watts...so I just keep an eye on potential opportunities pricewise.
@d.p.5874 if it were me and you didn't need the card I would wait for the 50 series and get that . It will be leaps ahead of the 4000 series and will last you longer for gaming. Also if you wanted to dabble in vr you will be able to . If not you will be able to play any game in 4k easily . Or o multi monitor . Even the 4090 can't push 3 4k monitors .
I followed these tips and man, I got the smoothest flight ever with the Fenix A320 yesterday. However, I went for a flight today and I dont know why, but with the same setup, it was all laggy and I felt like I had 20 fps. It wasn't smooth at all compared to yesterday. The settings are all the same, I don't know what happened here, anyone here has experienced this?
possible server issue with msfs. sometimes it happens some days its great no stutters and some days its a lot of stutters . the only way to tell is to turn off bing maps and photogrammetry and try it with all the online stuff off . if it works well then thats the issue the msfs servers.
also if you turn off the lossless scaling you can test that as well if that is full of stutters then it will parlay that into the scaling app . if the info stops flowing then you get the lags no matter how much frame interpolation that you use .
@@2020fsers I never thought about MSFS servers issues, that's interesting. I did turn on and off Lossless Scaling and it was still full of stutters. I'll try it again and keep you updated, thanks a lot mate!
Hi i'm encountering several problems with lossless scaling, i Hope you are going to be able to help me. I have a Ryzen 5 5500 and a rtx4060, i've followed all the steps but unless i put "performance on" it lags so much that makes the game unplayble. Another problem i have is that sometimes the sim just freezes and on the screen I have a freezed screen but on background the sim continues to run correctly. This happens also after i close lossless scaling, the only way to solve this is to close the sim, it is so annoying i hope you can help🙏🏻
Have problem with lossless Scaling. It is not showing the fps in MSFS. I have set up everything as said in the video. I have 2 monitors both 60 Hz on fore MSFS and the second one for MSFS apps.Have tried with Multi-display mode on and off and I have Draw FPS on Hope to get some help🙂
Hi i am facing an issue when i limit framerate in riva app i think it also limits fps of lossless scaling app. It shows 29/29 fps on top left corner of game scree. How to solve this issue
I tried it, but when I'm Airborne with the fenix a320 I have stutters at certain times. I think it is the CPU usage that together with the fenix software and the simulator is not enough.
yes the fenix is a big draw ... the idea is that you balance your settings first with this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VY5jloE27mU.html then use the scaling tool maybe that will help
Great videos as always!! Followed all steps however when enabling lossless scaling my sim turns into a different color as if it had several exaggerated filters. Tried a bunch of stuff and can't figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated..... thanks !
@@2020fsers EDIT: problem solved by turning off HDR mode in Windows11! Same problem as above over here. Turning on the HDR slider results in a black screen. Using a 4070 Super.
Which Nvidia driver you recommend? I’m on an Asus 4090 using the driver that came with it 9 months ago, but it’s time to try out Nvidia filters and this driver doesn’t support it. Thanks for any advice .. and your channel 👍
Greetings 2020 FS'ers Thanks for the vidz you guys produce. Are you guys able to do videos that help persons who use AMD instead of nVIDIA cards please? It would be nice to see the two sides of the coin. thanks in advance.
I‘m using two screens and sometimes lossless scaling seems to crash, completely freezing the main screen. Not even shutting down lls or the sim works in this case, it seems like the gpu output is then somehow broken. I need to restart the Pc when this happens. Anyone else? Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot for the video! But i have a question. When i activate SLC or Pacx (passenger programs) i get stuttering. Otherwise it works flawlessly. Do you have any suggestion?
the frame gen can be used on 4000 cards but not to be used with the frame gen available for the 4000 cards 1 or the other. personally i use a 4080super and i do not like dx12 which is needed for frame gen on the 4000 cards so using this allows me to use dx11 and frame gen .
I love it, but I do have a one small problem, when I activate it I can’t move the mouse cursor from one screen to another with hitting the window button?
thats a great question i would probably use it off but i dont have a gsync monitor so i cant say for sure .. try both and go with what looks better and less lag and let me know what you find i would appreciate it.
In the Nvidia control panel regarding Microsoft flight simulator specifically make sure that you have Vsync set to application controlled. All of my other settings are the same that I go over in the Nvidia guide that's in the description. Yeah anyone with g-sync I recommend to keep that off as well I don't have a g-sync monitor so I can't test and comment but I would assume that you don't want to add any latency into the system so that's why vsync and g-sync should probably be turned off
Check in your task manager it's probably open in there what were the task bar in the lower right-hand corner click on that and open up all the background things that are running it's probably down there
Thank you for this video! Yesterday I installed LostLess scaling with no problem. A bit later I downloaded the Riva utility, however I couldn't open the interface once I installed the program. As a result I couldn't try either program. There is an updated version available of LossLess. The biggest issue I have is trying to get FSFS to load up quicker. There isn't very much in my community folder since I am using the Linker program. My internet speed is about 1 gig. It can take 4 to 5 minutes for FSFS to load on my system. I have removed aircraft and etc that arent being used. I noticed ysterday I can't access the Market place, no idea why. Your feedback is welcome. Thank you!
Ok in this case it's a little different and some trial and error . If you only have a 75hz monitor then try 30 fps using x2 mode . Do you have 100 hz? If so try 30 in x3 mode that will get closer to 100 than x2 and 75hz.
Hi, just one question. I have "Max Frame Rate=75Hz" (My monitor's refresh rate) in the Global Settings, what about the Simulator Settings inside the NVIDIA Control Panel? Before the Riva Tuner I set it to 35, but I'm not sure if I have to turn it OFF and use the Riva Tuner instead. Nice video indeed, this app is a game changer.
do not use max frame rate in the nvidia panel if you are using rivatuner . turn any nvidia frame caps off and only use rivatuner if that is your frame cap program of choice if you want to use nvidia frame cap then dont use the riva tuner.
Thank you so much for noting the *_No VR_* caveat right in the title. That's a first in the MSFS 2020 tutorial space! I'm watching it, anyway, because of that courtesy, even though I fly exclusively in VR.
thank you im not trying to waist your time thinking that it will make vr better lol at least it didnt for me .. i also put another easter egg in the thumbnail... i also always fly vr unless doing a tutorial, theres nothing like it until you get into a real plane that is.
How to solve the problem with inscriptions jerking on liveries? My plane is also flickering. The 165Hz screen limited frames from 80 to 40. The problem does not go away
For Loseless App, you have set Vsync to fast in nvidia control panel. So it means that i should turn off Vsync for the game itself from nvidia control panel?
@@2020fsers I have a 7900 XT AMD and I am lost when you used the Nvidia control panel. I got all set but that’s confuses me and dont know what to tweak on the AMD adrenaline software
you release very helpful videos. QQ I see this thin fuzzy layer around the edges off the aircraft. I am running a 60hz monitor my frame rates is half to 29 in the RTSSS tool. any reasons around the fuzziness
do you only see the fuzzines when using the scaling app? if you are using the scaling mode in the tool turn it off and try again ,Example: if using amd fsr turn off it could be the scaling method dosent like your monitor.
I am well aware of that I guess you didn't find my Easter egg in the thumbnail (top left of the word fps) or read the first two sentences of my description
So i have a triple monitor set up, and it seems like the dlss frame gen didnt do much but make game have ghosting. The frame rate barely changed (50 to 60ish, no matter im in frame gen or not). Im tempted to do this in hopes that it works better...
@2020fsers you're kidding. I thought you said yours did it on yours with your two monitor set up. Thank you, you've saved me time and money! Is that, perhaps, why it doesn't seem to do diddly with frame gen in game, too?
@skippychurch2965 yeah indidnt notice until after because my main monitor was good but my side had a little lag which couldn't be seen in the video . After talking to more people only the screen that showed the fps is the screen that is using lossless scaling ... makes sense to
I have NVIDIA 4090 with monitor resolution 5120X1440 and native refresh rate of 240 Hz. Is it still necessary to limit my frame rate to around 119 fps? I suppose that even with loss less scaling X2, I would never reach 240 fps. Further consider the maximum frame rate that I have reached before was not more than 100 fps. In case may I limit the FPS from nvidia panel control? Thank you
You may wany to try the x3 method then. The goal is to equal the refresh rate so you may want to lower the refresh rate of your monitor to something under 240
So out of curiousity, my laptop is 60 hertz for refresh rate (I know I need to upgrade soon). What would the frame rate be for me to cap at? With lossless running it is not receiving a boost. Thanks!
I am reviewing the cls 60 ffb this week 3 part series with a tutorial on the software . Should be pretty good ima do a teardown of it . Thank you again .
I thought I'd try it out with my 4090 and 7800x3D. I think it's best to always test these things at heavy areas so I picked the ultimate: iniBuilds KJFK with TLOD set to 400 in the PMDG 737-800 Hovering right around 29-33 FPS. If I take TLOD down to 200 I gain maybe 2 or 3 FPS, nothing drastic. I'm probably gonna stick with regular FG in DX12. Edit: scratch that! I’ve re-enabled dx12 and FG and G-sync…but! I enabled lossless scaler and holy crap it works! I was showing 154FPS at JFK. I limited to 50 fps and wow…😮
@@2020fsers just wasn't sure if your recommendations from your other video applied here too. great thanks, finally got all the gears working together and the sim has never been smoother!!! dialing my 165hz monitor down to 144hz really did the trick for me (I guess it's a bit easier to handle for my system). performance was always good here, but now the (micro)stutters are gone too. your videos really help out a lot, thanks and keep it up!
I would love to completely test the software. But I presume those that are complaining they can't move the mouse to a second or third monitor like me, is because we are using those monitors to run our other programs and not a multi monitor setup.. I for example am running Navirgraph, Airmanager, Beyond ATC, Volanta. All on 2 other monitors and unfortunately can't move my mouse to any of the other screens with LScaling is running. Ok what you would do is disable the vsync in the msfs program specific settings in the nvidia panel and set to application controlled. Only set fast vsync in the lossless scaling program specific settings like I show Here . You may also want to turn off gsync but try both on and off.
@@2020fsers Thank you so Much, I followed your advice, although I’ve turned vsync off in msfs, nvidia control panel msfs settings and just use it through lossless scaling in the nvidia app, set my monitor to 162 hz out of 165 on the control panel and capped it to 81 frames in rivatuner and lossless scaling works like a dream “4070ti, 10700k” I did buy and try this app before your video a few weeks ago and it worked terrible so again thank you, without your video I’ve never have gone back to it, I can now run FSTL traffic injector at 100% also
