One of the best and most thorough aircraft overviews I've seen in a long time, right down to your choice of awesome music to accompany the exterior shots of the aircraft. Locating all the critical controls, switches, etc., was appreciated. Inserting your real-life experiences with the aircraft was the frosting on the cake. Well done, Sir!

Excellent tutorial about the basics. Good you showed where pitch trim was, as I was fighting earlier today with the big wheel at the front. Cheers, Ronnie

It's a lovely little plane - I had no hesitation buying it. Great review - nice to have someone who is familiar with the plane giving their view.

I've watched 3 different reviews on this. You are the only one that started it correctly with the rear engine first and so far the only one that found the ap master switch lol. Fantastic! Did you notice the front engine shutdown what the prop did? Omg you see the prop wiggle back like there was actually torque on it. Nicely done carenado. !!!

Yup, people not doing their homework re the engines! It is a cool aircraft! Good enough, that I did a review too! Blue skies!
@stephenbull2026
@stephenbull2026 2 года назад
I always thought you started the front one first as you could see is there was anyone in danger of getting sliced up and by then is anyone got mangled by the rear prop it was their fault. Makes sense though doing it the other way around.
@TheFlightLevel
@TheFlightLevel 2 года назад
@@stephenbull2026 Yes, definitely the rear engine first. There is a Skymaster hangared beside me in Brantford (CYFD). That rear engine start is the loudest engine start at the airport! Haven’t flown with him yet; curious to know the sound level in the cabin!
@ryan_niemi
@ryan_niemi 2 года назад
He got the order of the engine start right (rear first because you can't hear what's happening with the rear engine if you start the front engine first), but in real life (I have a 1975 Skymaster T337G), he would've flooded the rear engine by leaving the fuel aux pump on that long before cranking, then he left the aux pumps on even after starting which would've run waaaay too rich. These are Continental TSIO-360's with continuous fuel injection, the injectors are spraying fuel into the intakes anytime there's fuel pressure (unless mixture is at cutoff), and the engine-driven pump supplies the correct fuel quantity once running with the aux pumps off.
@ryan_niemi
@ryan_niemi 2 года назад
@@TheFlightLevel The sound level in the cabin depends whether it's the pressurized version of the Skymaster. The non-pressurized version is fairly loud in the cabin, while the pressurized version is quiet enough to have a conversation in-flight. Having said that, the engine starts should not be particularly loud, they're just Continental TSIO-360's as used on numerous other aircraft. There isn't anything unusual noise-wise while starting mine. What are you hearing happen during those engine starts?
@ryan_niemi
@ryan_niemi 2 года назад
The fuel aux pumps shouldn't be on during operation, they're just for priming, starting, if the engine-driven fuel pumps fail, and sometimes for in-flight engine restarts. The aux pumps should be off while the engines are running, otherwise the mixture ends up way rich. I own a 1975 Skymaster T337G in real life.

Saw one of these in the aviation museum in Shannon 2 days ago . It's in a sorry state unfortunately but I was wondering also how durable that little door/step is! Very interesting about starting the rear engine first.. Great review man. 👍

Wow what an overview/review - this has to be the standard for proper aircraft reviews, amazing job. For me, I’m giving this a pass for now - the flight model in Carenado releases seems the same so once you’ve flown one you’ve flown them all. Those sounds - sounds like a Mooney! And there are some epic releases around the corner such as the Twotter that think deserves the hard earned more! Just my 2 cents but awesome video dude!

Must admit this plane has grown on me during your video. At first you just think, it’s only Cessna. Then you look at its back end and think… that’s too funky to be a Cessna! Then by the end of the video you think….that’s a cool Cessna and I want one in my hanger!

I grew up at the local airport and used to see these semi regularly. Beautiful aircraft. They did a good job with the engine sounds, imo. I also dig the interior lighting, seems so 1970's. I'm very tempted but I already own a few carenado a/c so its a pass for now. Great review. *edit now that I think about it more, the local sky divers used to take the Skymaster 2's up to perform jumps.
@ryan_niemi

Hmm, normally the doors on the Skymaster can not be opened in-flight, the wing strut is aft of the door, and it's tricky to get from the rear seats to the door while in-flight. This seems non-ideal for skydiving.
@wanderer5200
@wanderer5200 2 года назад
I didn't know the doors opened vertically, like a Delorean. Excellent.
@ryan_niemi
@ryan_niemi 2 года назад
The doors have always opened vertically, but the 2-piece door with the step as seen in this model was a change that happened in the 1973 and later model years.

Nice work Murph! It seems the 337 has grown on you a bit? You seemed a litle meh about it at first, or am I wrong? I have to say I do like it, but like you say the sound seems a little off. Th exterior is extremely loud, and when you pan around theplane, there's ne real 3d effect. This could be due to there being 2 engines, which could make it sound similar to the front and to the back. The interior engine sounds seems a little too static.. there's hardly any wind sound (a rookie oversight if you ask me). Anyway, still an enjoyable plane! I love it in VR, and the fact that the textures aren't super high resolution keeps the frame rates a bit higher, I'm sure!

I just purchased the module and I 'm having an issue with its throttle(s) being two separate engines. My HOTAS has only one axis for throttle control. How would I go about binding the rear engine? Or would they both work in sync as one bound throttle?

Caranado are great at the eye candy, but not so good on the physics. Even with X-Plane, their flight model is a bit gameish:)

Hi, just got this plane, all it seems to do is on take off is to sit on the tail like doing a Wheely. It seems like the centre of Ballance is off. Checked the CG all is good I must be doing something wrong. Any hint ?
