I wonder if you could someway incorporate the MCDU into this. Still haven't found a clean way to use it while in flight. I fly on the vatsim network and if ATC gives me a direct to, I just go to the MCDU but in VR, I guess I'll just have to use the mouse ?? My hands shake and the Q2 controllers are not the best option for me.

Hey man question where do you create your flight plans hey are I create mine on simbrief and half of the time it doesn’t have the right way points and departures and stuff like that any ideas? And what do you use
@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
Hi! If I am replicating a real-world flight, I usually start out in FlightAware - that will give me the route (in the US, at least). Then I do as you are doing - I use SimBrief to plan the flight. Usually the given routing is accurate, but you can change it if not. If you change the runway, the departures/arrivals should update, too.

Great video man, very helpful! When you record/stream in VR, do you just capture the "goggle/glasses" view, and then just zoom in on one of them to fill the frame? Or is there a better way?
@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
Thanks!!! And no, streaming from the MSFS window gives that crazy double-lens view!! Use the mirror instead... I think it mirrors off the left or right eye (I can't remember which... or maybe you can choose?)

I grabbed the tablet after I saw you use it previously and it's great! It also gives you access to a great interface for Little Navmap. There's 2 PDF viewers so that you can have 2 different PDFs set up for quick access. There's also a METAR database and descent calculator. Some other VATSIM tools, but I don't VATSIM. I noticed though that I have to re-authenticate with Navigraph every time I open the tablet, and it doesn't seem like you had to do that. Is that right? Maybe there's something I'm missing.
@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
Awesome!! Yeah that tablet is epic for VR! And yes there are lots of additional features... maybe I'll do a quick (yes, quicker than this one 🤣 someone once told me I talk too much).... a quick vid on just the tablet features... there are 2 PDF viewers, weather... also a landing rate calculator (which I don't like to look at.. you have seen my landings 🤣).... Lots of features for only $15 all in one tablet!! Ah ok, for Navigraph - first try launching Navigraph from the toolbar then just close it (link it once if you have to).... then open the tablet... I think that's a minor bug. For now, open navigraph first real quick from the toolbar then just close it at the beginning of every flight. Then use the tablet navigraph for the rest of the flight... I think it's just a small bug... Still is amazing in VR though, right?

Im trying to decide between screens and VR to supplement flight training... im guessing you would suggest VR? Also, can checklists be brought up in VR using that vr tablet you were demonstrating? Thx. Ben
@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
Hi! - I guess it depends on what phase of flight training you are in and what your CFI/CFII says... for me, I used xplane in pancake mode a long time ago for familiarization with IFR procedures. But it was, by no means, a large part of my flight training... For checklists - You can pull up PDF files, so any checklist that has been PDF'ed can be viewed. I have done that in the past for various aircraft and it works well.

@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
Hi! I also have a foreflight subscription I use on my iPad mini in the Arrow.... some people use it with MSFS to get the aircraft to show up on the map page along with the geo-referenced plates... but I have never done this. In VR, there are ways to screencast your iPad screen to a windows window which could then be brought in to the sim via FSDesktop, but this would be really clunky, I think.

you don't have any problems running the quest? I've been dealing with it for two days, finally getting best results using oculus link and oculus openVR instead of virtual desktop and steamVR, but I still notice tearing and behavior that looks like ASW even tho I have it disabled. 7700x and 3080, so specs are not a problem. trying a vive pro 2 next to take encoding out of the equation.
@vrsimpilot
@vrsimpilot Год назад
I don't have any systemic problems with the Q2. Some aircraft/airport combos tax it a bit (Fenix at ATL, for example on a busy VATSIM night). But, for the most part, it gives good performance and is smooth in VR. I don't use SteamVR at all, by the way. Only the Oculus App and the settings I describe in my VR settings video. Maybe try that?
@apc3559
@apc3559 Год назад
@@vrsimpilot yeah I'm circling back to the Q2. forgot how horrid of a headset the VP2. indeed so far my best results are with wired link and the oculus app, but still get that characteristic tear/wobble of ASW despite being turned off. it's weird. but good to know it works for you, that means there's hope! I've put together a pretty nice compact sim rig and getting the headset to fulfill what I know it should be capable of is the last hurdle. alyx, radius, vrchat etc are all fantastic. MSFS is just proving rather idiosyncratic.
@vrsimpilot
