Thank you so much for such a helpful video. I appreciate that you took your time, gave tips along the way, and showed every moment along the way. There are other videos out there that zip by the unlatching process, but your video gave me more confidence to open up my GE75. Managed to swap out the 5400RPM SATA that came with my model with a cloned SSD and also installed an m.2 drive. Thanks again!

Thanx for the video. You make it look so simple. I wonder why laptop makers don't make the battery, memory and SSD drive replacement a lot easier so that you don't have to dismantle it. Like they used to some years ago..

Thanks for watching. The price we pay for progress in technology I guess. Everything is getting thinner, smaller and faster. But I know what you mean. Dale

A couple of weeks ago I received a new laptop for work, a Lenovo P15. IT wanted to move the 2nd SSD in my previous laptop (that had a broken battery) to the new laptop as 2nd SSD, used for data and VM's. That was quite a simple procedure, as Lenovo provides a small hatch covering the memory and the SSD's. This way it's no longer necessary to remove the whole laptop backcover ;-)
@joetred
@joetred Год назад
I think it's due to cost cutting. Having a removable cover to access the drive or memory would have complicated the design and increased the manufacturing cost. Apple got away with it. Therefore everyone else follows suit.

Hi, thanks for sharing this video, it helped me to upgrade our MSI GE75 Raider 9SF laptop. I did replace the original Kingston SSD of 512GB with a Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD of 1TB. For the cloning part I did use Macrium Reflect instead of the Samsung software, to be able to make a real 1:1 clone including the OEM Recovery partition, what the Samsung software does not support. I also replaced the original Seagate HDD of 1TB with also a Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD of 1TB, again cloned with Macrium Reflect including the large OEM Recovery partition. Opening the laptop was a bit difficult at first, I did use a plectrum and with that I managed to open it, only a few notches were broken. Strange thing was with the testing with the cover loosely placed, after reconnect the battery the laptop wouldn't start after pressing the button. Only after connecting the power supply the laptop started again, firstly doing some checks and small disk repairs, don't know why as both SSD's are a full 1:1 clone of the original SSD and HDD. I'm typing this message running the upgraded laptop without the battery connected, so everything is working properly now after the upgrade.

I just got the MSI GE75 2020 10sf 446 model last Saturday. I'm happy with it. I got it through face book for $750. The only gripe I have with it is the power and fan button could have been a different color or lighted up like the other keys.

Helpful... I was mostly interested in whether this model had a free M.2 slot, since MSI doesn't list that in their specs. Regarding the M.2 heat pad, have you tested SSD temp before and after? I believe the way you are using it will actually slightly increase temps. I believe a heat pad like that is more effective than an air pocket at transferring heat from the chips to a heat sink, but is actually an insulator as compared to just air blowing over the chips.

I have this and I love it. Just researching whether I can add an SSD and it's looking for like a go. Trying to set it up to develope UE5 projects and the 512 is a little inhibitive, so, thanks for the content, it's gonna be useful soon. 😎👍

msi says: Unit can support a max of 64GB of RAM, Up to DDR4-3200, 2 Slots. System also has room for: one of the m.2 slot should be in use on the computer. 1x M.2 SSD slot (NVMe PCIe Gen3) 1x M.2 SSD Combo slot (NVMe PCIe Gen3 / SATA) 1x 2.5" SATA HDD

I got the GE77 last year, it has the 12gen CPU 2Tb M.2, RTX3080 and 32GB RAM. Goes very well, I have never opened it, it probably has a spare M.2 slot. Not sure if it has room for a SATA drive. BTW I elected to get the 4K resolution at 120Hz.

so you took out the 512 and there was another slot for another m.2 right beside it so they could of had two m.2 drives but you removed the 512. the connector for the 2nd is right beside the screw you took out to remove the original one, and then it goes front front to back and the screw for the 2nd is closer to the heat sink fan. As you can see at 11:46 in the video.

Why not just put the ssd in the empty slot? Why replace the old one and then move the old one to the empty slot?

Possibly silly question - what size screw did you use to secure the 2nd M.2 drive? I'd like to get all my parts in place before cracking open the machine!

Dear Sir, or anyone who read this. I have a question about the SSD thickness. SSD 970 EVO Plus has thickness of 2.4 mm, while the one I'm interested is Adata XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro that has thickness of 6.1 mm, because of the encased heatsink. My question is if the 6.1 mm would fit in the MSI GE75? I'd appreciate much of the comformation.

I cannot pry my case back off for anything. I just keep getting hurt when i try. :( i probably need a better tool. Not sure what you are using but i am trying to pry this open with a flat screwdriver and it just keeps slipping. Worried about trying an exacto or something sharper tbh.

I'm really struggling trying to find the right dimensions for my MSI GE75 Raider 10SE-008 RAM card. I'm hoping the Patriot Steel works, because I can't seem to find a straight answer. If anyone knows or can confirm it would be greatly appreciated!

Why would you wipe the original 512gb drive before you check the clone and see if it copied correctly?

Hi. Your best bet is to use the free WD Acronis True Image from WD. you can use an external usb enclosure or adapter like I did in the video. You can also use the free Macrium Reflect 7 cloning software. Just google it. Dale
