MSI GL75/GP75 Leopard/GE75 Raider/WE75 Series SSD & RAM Upgrade Tutorial

- Any damage caused during this upgrade might void the warranty.
- Check the spec from where you purchased the notebook.
- This video is applied to MSI GL75, GP75 Leopard, GE75 Raider, and WE75 Series.
"Reset EC" is to cut-off the power from the battery to avoid any damage from the short-circle.
After all the upgrade processes, you need to plug in the AC power adapter to power on the notebook because the battery power is cut-off by "Reset EC".

Thank you for the clear and logical disassembly of this computer - got a GL75 for my daughter in 2021 and she filled the 512gb SSD and didn't like the idea of an external SSD - since storage has dropped in cost like crazy - got a 2TB M.2 from Crucial and since I was going to be inside - upped the RAM to 32gb. I was able to open and replace the 2 components without a hitch - or so I thought. I wanted to make sure the closed drive would boot so I halfway snapped the bottom plate on and flipped it over and pressed the power button. Nothing. I popped the cover off and re-installed the battery - and looked closer at my RAM and SSD - they were installed properly. Instead of doubting myself, I put the cover back on - installed all the screws - (most importantly) snapped the cover at the hinges - and it came on like a champ.

Did you have to clone the drive? I've always had trouble in the past upgrading laptop hard drives because the laptop did not want any other drive in it other than the one it came with.

Hey, sounds good! Did u get a PCIe 3.0 SSD? When I’m checking which one to buy the 3.0 have a different port (they have 1 gap), but in the video the SSD the woman is removing has 2 gaps which is the structure of an 4.0, which one did u use?

Best video I've seen yet for this model. I am, however, even more confused now because I just watched another video that showed the same model with two SSD slots and two HDD bays! I went in and swapped out the two 4 Gb RAM chips for two 32 Gb RAM chips, and I saw the second open SSD slot, but I don't remember seeing a second HDD bay. I want to open the case back up to insert the second SSD, and I was planning to also replace the 2.5" 1 Tb HDD with a 2.5" 2 Tb SSD. Now I see that this model comes with different setup: 1 SSD bay and 1 HDD bay; 2 SSD bays and 1 or maybe 2 HDD bays. If there are two HDD bays, I would want to buy two 2.5" SSDs, pull the HDD in there now, install the two SSDs and stripe them to a RAID 0. So what's the deal: How would I know there's a second HDD bay without opening the machine first?

I am installing this for a friend of mine on his GL75 but noticed that you have harddrive caddy on the 1TB SATA drive. Did that caddy come with the 1TB harddrive or did it come with the laptop in the retail box when purchased? I asked him to look inside the laptop package but apparently he can't find it. Hoping he didn't toss it if it came with it.

Hi, is it necessary to reset the Laptop when you upgrade it with a hdd
@GamingHelp
@GamingHelp 4 года назад
That depends on what you mean by upgrade. My new unit has an SSD and I added the HD to the unit as a data disk and just threw the bottom back on, powered it up and went. One thing is for sure though, it's NOT easy to get back together. The one thing to really watch is the audio jacks. It's VERY easy to end up having them not want to poke back through the holes. I ended up using a piece of wood sharpened in a pencil sharpened to lift the sockets/board assembly up about 1/2 a MM to maybe 1MM or so before trying to snap it shut so they'd pop in before trying to snap it right shut. I also had to make a tool out of plastic to part the bottom. They used all kinds of plastic latches around the edges. Once you get a few loose so you can start making progress, it's not too bad though. Good luck. :)
