GN smash MSI Evoke in a brutal teardown. MSI respond with the Gaming X with a heatsink with double the mass. HU smackdown MSI's x570's mid/lower tier boards, MSI respond with a VRM from their top tier on their now mid tier. MSI seems to listen to reason 😀

At first I thought they were a rip off of unbox therapy, but after watching a few videos, I was massively impressed by their dedication to thorough technical reviews. He can be a bit too sour at times, but that's probably due to the comment toxicity rubbing off (though, seems in better spirits as of late). Really like this channel and are now subscribed. @CapaNoisyCapa
@CapaNoisyCapa 5 лет назад
Yep. No RGB is a plus for me since I always forget to turn it of after a clear CMOS. As an overclocker and bencher, this board would be a perfect fall back cheaper board for me on the QoL features alone: Led debug code, start and reset buttons and, of course, the clear CMOS on the back of the board. And MSI did a great job with the memory layout and tracing, they're braking RAM WR left, right and center. It wouldn't replace the C8H as my daily driver because only 4 SATA ports (WTF MSI?) and the godawful bios. It's a constant exercise of patience if you spend almost the same time in bios as in Windows as I do. That said, it's a GREAT board for $300.

Been using this board since early 2020 (still in use with 5700x, 32gb ram, 7900xt for ultrawide). It's still running as outstanding as it did on day 1. Can confirm this boards thermal performance. Never had an issue with it. It's so cool, I can't recall if I've ever seen the chipset fan spinning. If you're still on AM4 and your old board fried. Check if you can get this used/new for a good price. Unless you're determined on AM5, ofc.

Had this board for almost two years now--great product. First enthusiast board, appriciate the "everything you need, nothing you don't" approach to the engineering. What sold me was the blacked-out aesthetic.. looks great in a dark build but by nature will work with any RGB you want (black goes with all colors, after all). Only critism is the name, "Shadow" would have been better.

If I'd had gotten the Taichi, I would've seen this review and been like: "The Unify runs HOW cool?!" but now I see the Elite's auto-OCing results being utterly amazing in that chart, plus it has every feature I could possibly want, and yeah...I could not be happier getting it through a 20% discount even, due to damaged packaging, which I don't care about. Thought I'd share my experience with the X570 gaming edge wifi here. Got it before I saw the initial review and was close to returning it. However, I've been using it now for almost 2 months in a workstation with a 3900x with agesa 1003 abb. VRM temps never reached past 85 C at ~20 C ambient, even after 20+ hours of constant rendering in blender (at stock clock and voltage). Haven't tried synthetic load like prime95 for longer than an hour (also max 85 C) though. Also tried with OC 4.2GHz at 1.375V on all cores, pretty much same result here since my 3900x boosts to 4.15GHz all core with stock settings already. I don't really game on it, so no experience on that. So in conclusion, I would say in my case, it performs fine, not very impressive, but also nothing to be worried about. BUT, I'm using a high airflow case (coolermaster NR600) and a dark rock pro 4, whose fan aims pretty much directly at the vrms, if you mount the center fan low enough on the heat sink. Do with that information whatever you want. And no, I'm not an MSI employee.

The Unify is a wonderful board. I've been using it for 5 months in my new system and it really does everything well. Durable construction, runs cool, no problems with overclocks. Unlike my old gaming computer's motherboard from 2014, the Unify lets me make full use of my gigabit internet (now if I could only figure out what to do with that much bandwidth). Having 3 M.2 slots is luxurious, I have two 1 TB NVMe SSDs installed and every task the system performs is snappy. My only complaint was that the BIOS was slightly overvolting my 3900x, but changing the core voltage setting from 'auto' to 'AMD overclocking' solved this.

I've had the Unify for over a month, now (thanks in part to Hardware Unboxed), and it's proved to be a solid board. I did find it ironic that when I set the in-BIOS chipset fan curve to run the fan starting below the *default minimum of 55C*, it would repeatedly and randomly report up to 100,000 RPMs (its max is around 5000 RPMs), even when in the BIOS, and I could hear the fan constantly zooming up and down from min to max RPMs. The 2020-01-16 BIOS update seems to have cured this-I haven't seen this issue at all in the past two weeks.

Let's face it. For everyone not looking specifically for the newest features, the Asus X570-P is the top choice. The price is just too compelling. If you need WiFi 6, you go with the Elite WiFi or the Steel Legend WiFi. And if you want a do-it-all board, you go for the Taichi. Anything else is either too expensive or only targeting extreme overclockers.
@RyTrapp0

I wish it was that simple; after dealing with enough of their bullshit with the Prime B350 Plus to the point that I bought an open box ASRock Pro4($50, because Micro Center is the shit) to replace it, I won't be using ASUS motherboards until we see a drastic shift in their decision making. Even Buildzoid has been all over their asses at least since the Zen 2 launch. Previously, boards from the other 3 have tended to catch my eye, only for a third, maybe half of them have ended up replaced by an ASRock board that just delivered a better damn experience - this time, when I get around to upgrading to 3000 series, I'm getting a damn Taichi and being done with it. More than enough features, all the basics are solid, has proven to be a performer, and the price is right

@RyTrapp0

@@Sol-su2mi Nope, not yet anyway, the Pro4 has been fine for what I do. I upgraded from an RX580 to a THICC II 5700XT(haven't experienced any of the issues that others have) right around the time I posted that comment, and, frankly, I haven't felt like the Ryzen R5 1600 has been holding me back, I haven't "needed" to jump to the 3000 series yet. Outside of gaming, I do some CAD work, but the component counts are very low, rarely over 10 components in an assembly, so 6 first gen Zen cores and 12 threads are more than enough for my work. I'm definitely still going to get a 3700x or 3900x(because I'm an enthusiast first), and definitely still planning on getting a Taichi when I do, but, for now, my money is going into the 1980 Mustang race car I'm building with my nephew - and, unfortunately, race car parts are a LOT more expensive than PC parts, so my PC plans have been on hold since I've gotten it "good enough" with the upgrade to the 5700XT. I really need to get 16 gigs of RAM though, I bought a used kit that turned out to generate memory errors, causing random crashes, so I had to swap my old 8 gig kit back in which is my biggest 'bottleneck' right now.

Nice quickie review Steve. I agree with your opinion on the looks of the board - toned down colors , no RGB. Geez with fans, coolers, RAM and video cards all having lights these days if you have a glass panel case you can light up your room without a lamp! I put my case under my desk anyways so bling is pretty much a waste of time. Thx for the honest review. Still havent sprung for a Ryzen system yet. This board is now on my shortlist.

For example the B450 socket the msi he beat everyone else.That it is impossible for all other companies. I think you understand what I mean...

So which makes sense, Strix X570-F or MEG X570 Unify? imho I would go with MSI BUT my recent laptop experience with MSI didn’t go that well... Even the hardware is working great for almost 2.5 years I couldn’t say the same about the accessory quality which leads me to a question if this model gives me a pain in the ass in the future or not...

Yes, the X570 Unify is a nice board. I spent 3 hours trying to get mine to post using 4 different working CPU’s. Three different ram kits, 2 graphics cards, and 4 different bios’s…………and finally……….one RMA. After waiting for close to a month for arrival……..yeah……..not on my favourites list.

I wish you had put the Carbon in the title as I missed in during my research. I some how missed all the VRM issues and bought 2 for my wife and I to build with 3700x on Black Friday. That being said, both of our Carbon's only get to 55C on the MOSFETS with 3700x being maxed out in Prime 95 and a GTX 1070 running Furmark simultaneously. I don't know if we got a later revision or if a BIOS update could have possibly helped. I know a 3900x pushes the MOSFETs harder, but that much? Anyways, both of our Carbon's work perfectly, so I'm happy with that. Had I seen this review, Probably would have gone with an Asus or Unify instead.

Gotta love when a company realizes they messed up. Honestly if someone has thermal trouble with their cheaper msi x570 boards they should be given the option from msi to trade their board in for this. Even if their is a small fee. No one should have to pay 250-300 dollars for something that doesn’t work right and be forced to spend that much again. In the end they could have bought the Meg or ace or something and not had any problems.

THANK MSI. It should never have been this bad, but MSI actually bringing out a new board that performs means that, at the very least, they know they messed up. Those other expensive boards are still out in the wild though, and while I appreciate that MSI was rushed to get Zen2 boards out, so was every other manufacturer, and they did far far better. I hope that this marks a point where MSI realizes (permanently) that we want performance first, functionality and style second.

Only part I do not like about the Unify are the storage options. Nearly no one uses 3 M.2 drives and only 4 SATA ports makes this very limiting. Otherwise my new X570 favorite in that price bracket.

actually here's another lot of info you could have on your graphs please - the cost of each motherboard, so then viewers can see the temperature vs cost benefits as well. The costs vs temp. is why I chose an ASUS Prime X570-P motherboard as it was one of the cheapest in the mid temp. range.. temp. being of concern in the lead up to an Aussie summer (cost was $231 AUD after an ebay sale).

My thoughts on the MSI Unify: If it had been part of the initial raft of X570 boards, lots of people might have snapped it up. But now? After reading reviews of the initial X570 offerings, I was impressed by the performance (of all but MSI) but not by the prices. So I went with Gigabyte Auros 4xx boards for my 3600X (B450 Pro) and 3900X (X470 Gaming 7) builds. It was quite some bother getting BIOS and EC-FW updates working properly, but I'm happy with the results. Why Gigabyte? I used existing graphics cards, both Auros branded. I like to decide on graphics first them pick up the same brand motherboard so I only have to run one marginal piece of RGB software. I usually set it to one static color and leave it, but that's much less painful when the graphics card and the main board speak the same RGB dialect.

I think the unify is possibly the best x570 motherboard to get. Cheapest entry to MSI's Semi passive x570 cooling with excellent vrm temps. I would have preferred a cheaper one that didn't have s*** thermals... I hope for msi's sake they still manage to sell the lower end boards, that can be ok if actively cooled and so long as you don't compare them to the competition.

Looks decent. MSI saves their VRM with massive heatsinks once again, heh...Provided they have a proper distribution of PCI lanes for those slots, this mobo might be a best buy for people who want a good board but don't want to pay $300+ or to pay extra for useless plastic and RGB on their motherboard. I kinda wish they sticked with Intel LAN and maybe further reduced the price. People who buy boards in this price range typically don't even saturate that Gb Ethernet link, let alone 2.5Gb, so it's kinda wasted here...

Like the videos but gotta admit I down this one. I use the Pro Carbon and have no issues so it's dependant on what you consider too hot. My temps run perfectly fine for me compared to my previous board history and what's on this one. Also you ran your ryzen at 1.4v which is a lot. I run mine at 4.4ghz at 1.35v. I completely feel like you need to reassess the board or be sure it's a good batch because this is fair from what I get.
