MSR Alpine Stowaway pot set

This is the first time I believe that all four of the MSR Alpine Stowaway Pots are all together in one video for comparison. If you have ever wondered which size would work best for you then watch this video. It could save you money by getting the correct pot for you first. I got the whole set as the two bigger pots will be used in my kitchen. I really think that these pots are the ones that fit my needs the best.
All four pots, the 475 ml, the 775 ml, the 1.1 litre and the 1.6 litre make up the whole line of the Alpine Stowaway pots. Now you can see them all together for the first time. They all feature the locking handle that secures the lid.
These pots can be filled with gear without the fear of the lid coming open allowing your gear to spill all over your pack. Things inside the pot will stay inside.
I picked up these pots from the MEC store in Canada...

I have 2 of them. I love them. I got it more than 20 years ago. This pot is great for cooking rice because it works like a pressure cooker

Hey Wheels, I’m the guy that mailed you the stainless steel bail set for your 1.1 pot a few years back. I rewatched this video (5 years later!) and I really think you have a great speaking voice. You would be great reading kids books! Smooth and a lot of personality in the voice.

Very nice video! I have the 475, 775, and the 1100. The 775 is by far my favorite pot and technically has a 900ml capacity. I can easily nest my 210g canister, low profile Evernew ti mug, foil wind screen, and a Snow Peak Litemax stove in it. I find the 1100 a bit too large for my solo trips as it holds 1300ml max.....way more than I need for my meals. My wife says the 475 is cute....:lol:

Far and away my favourite pots. I use the 775 ml most often. I made the bail hanging system for both my stow-a-way pots but find I don't use the often as I cook over my Emberlit or my gasifier stove most of the time. You probably know this but if you get a fish mouth spreader you can use it with the lid as a handle for a fry pan
@wheelsgonewild1286
@wheelsgonewild1286 8 лет назад
I use the pot lifter handle from MSR to use the lid as a frying pan and a plate. Works great. I must make the mods for the other three as I have one for the 1.6.
@wheelsgonewild1286
@wheelsgonewild1286 8 лет назад
I made the mods for all four of the pots. I am going to do a video of all four pots cooking over a fire hanging with the bail mods.... should be a good one. Each pot will be cooking something different.

I have been useing the 775ml for about 4 years now. I love that pot. Unfortunately I lost the handle on the lid but it hasn't caused me too much trouble. I think the 775 fits into the 1.6. So you can fill the 775 and nest it in the big pot. The 475 fits for sure. I think I will get the bigger pot aswell so I can bake in it. Great gear Wheels. Take care brother Mark

Nice presentation. You're right, this is the 1st time I've seen them all 4 together, and I researched them a bunch this spring. Thanks! These really are great pots. BTW - I use stainless steel bike spokes for the bail mod. 100% stainless kit. Makes me happy. :-D

Thanks. I forget to mention that I take one of those stainless steel key cables with the screw-barrel and put it on the end of the handle for hanging the pot off of my tripod. I then use either a toggle on a rope, or a notched stick hanging down from the tripod to cable attached to the pot. One less thing to drop/lose as it is always attached to my pot handle.

Just an observation about the “positive lockup on that handle”. The flat sleeve, if moved away from the pot, usually allows you to squeeze the handle and fold it easily. Do these work in a different way?

zebra and seagull (seagull makes msr's stainless pots) are both thai companies but i don't think zebra was the first to come up with the concept, i'm pretty sure a chinese company came up with it first as a lunchbox for factory workers but the thai versions are much better quality.

Dude, you are in a wheelchair! What the hell do you know about being outdoors at all? I am completely kidding! I have been in a wheelchair for 30 years now and have made a fantastic living outdoors! I was even a professional hunter for the Parker bow company, ans a professional fisherman for In Fisherman as well. I actually live MONTHS every single year outdoors completely. camping the entire time! I am very supportive of you and what it seems you are trying to do! You can do damn near anything! I wish ABs (Able Bodied people) would understand just one thing. Don't look at us as what we have lost, but rather what we have left! Good luck to you friend! Just to let you know I have done very well as a writer for many national regional and local publications as well! Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Horizontal Bowhunter down to simply publishing in local newspapers etc. maybe you should look into that by way of writing about your adventures and giving professional "advice" to others needing teaching on what you do. it likely won't make you rich but it will put a couple bucks in your pockets!

Good pots, well sized but heavy ! That’s all there is to it. If you’re carrying pots in a backpack go titanium. Where weight isn’t an issue these pots are good. I see you haven’t used these pots at all?
@practicalguy973
@practicalguy973 2 года назад
Nice overview. I'm considering trying an MSR but I heard they have a thin base and don't distribute heat evenly with hot spots that can burn thicker foods. I made my own mess kit that nests pretty small and currently using a "Norpro 1-Quart Stainless Steel 3-Piece Mini Steamer Cooker Set" but just using the pot from that set as its pretty light, 18/10 stainless and has a triclad base to distribute heat. I use a mini aluminum pizza baking sheet that doubles as a dinner plate and lid for this pot, it gets hot so I use my Knipex pliers wrench to handle the lid. Still looking for a better option in stainless steel considering titanium has more studies come out about its toxicity.
