I searched for msr evo trail snowshoes and yours was the third hit! Congrats! Love your review except that MSR has changed the binding on the Evo Trail. The toe is mesh with one strap. See you outside!
Right the new paraglide binding is very nice. They went to this on the EVO trail but not on the EVO Ascents. I am looking to upgrade this year and will likely go with the REVO Ascent. They still have the durable plastic, but not have the Paragon binding. Thanks for watching!
I agree with you on the all the features and functionality of the MSRs. Great snowshoe designs. I have a few pairs of exactly these shoes myself. My BIGGEST beef with MSR/Cascade is their horrible Warranty Service - takes many months to turn around a repair; and the lack of spare parts availability. Those plastic binding straps wear over a couple years of regular use and need to be replaced. The straps are difficult to source, if you can find them at all. The same is true for their larger, metal frame shoes as well. My advice is if you have these shoes and enjoy using them often, buy a spare set of straps if you ever see them, and keep them as spares. At the least, bring a few good zipties on any serious hike you go one and really need to rely on those snowshoes....not just trekking through 6" of fresh powder.
I agree with sourcing spare parts. Prior to the pandemic, it was much better. I am in the same boat with 15yr old EVO Ascents. The bindings got brittle over time. I recently upgraded to Lightnings with the new bindings. Definitely superior stability, control and comfort. I still like MSR gear.
@@OutsideChronicles Is this an add-on to the snowshoe? Seriously, I am a total beginner to snowshoeing. I do have gaiters and a can-do attitude, though.
Tania Gail no, they go over your boots in icy conditions when snowshoes are not required. Check out MUST HAVE WINTER HIKING GEAR // Kahtoola Microspikes (Review) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ruZ2tGPZPBQ.html
Thanks for the kinds words. Be sure to check out our MSR Snowshoe hacks if you decided to buy a pair: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KgZrjkj4YWg.html
That’s a tough one. Colden has some great views. I like Wright as a beginner mountain because it has a great view and bald summit. Algonquin is also a favorite. So many! Marcy is a great climb, so is Haystack. Depends a lot on you fitness and abilities.
Hi and thank you for your video. On the MEC website, they says the EVO ascent is not ideal for long routes, why would that be? I have a pair of those and Im now hesitating on that long trip I wanna do 🤔 thanks
What do you think about the msr lightning snow shoe vrs the evo? It seems to have great reviews, trying to decide between the two. It it rated as a great mountain shoe
All MSR Snowshoes are top notch. If you have the budget, the Lightnings are amazing and lighter than the EVO. I have not done a ton of research on the new Paragon™ bindings (new this year), but they seem to be superior to the standard bindings. I see a bunch of people with Lightnings in the Adirondacks. You can be confident in either model. Let me know what you decide and if you go with the Lightnings, how those new binding are.
can you tell me how much you weigh? don't think i heard that in the video. i'm 185, over 200 with a pack, not sure these will work because they only make a 22"/ thx.
I am 6’1” 180lbs, you are correct they are 22” they do make a 6” float tail that is removable. I have them, but have not used them. I guess after a heavy snow, breaking trail, they would help.
I just checked out the Evo Trail on the MSR website. Seems like the evo "trail" version also has these televators. www.msrgear.com/ie/products/snowshoes/evo-trail-snowshoes/evo-eu.html
I am not seeing that. When I goto that link, I am put on MSR's main page. I still see two products the EVO Trail and EVO Ascent at www.msrgear.com/products/snowshoes.
@@vannic713 I use straps like this: amzn.to/2KdBb4W Depending on the bag, I will feed it though lashing points, you can also go all the way around the pack. I put them bottom to bottom. and they lay pretty flat.
@@OutsideChronicles Great straps! Most people don't know that most backpacks have side straps that can actually be connected in the middle of the pack, which is great for these snowshoes. Great video! My wife and I both have pairs and have loved them.
