As a former janitor, I always feel a little hurt when we get branded as creepy villains... but as a person named Mike, I am appalled by this movie’s depiction of us as whiny, groveling, bike-stealing leeches.
Seriously. If things end up working out with your boyfriend of THREE MONTHS, you have a house you can share with him, which is gonna be a hell of a lot harder to do on your own with his dubious football prospects. If not, you still have a goddamn house.
I honestly like Mike a lot more than Joel. I guess it's because when I started watching MST3k, it was when Mike was hosting. I had no clue Joel was the original host on the SOL till years later. I'm not saying Joel isn't good, he's awesome. But I still like the riffs done by Mike and the bots.
I definitely like Mike better, but like Marc above, I started watching MST3K when Mike was the host. I hard a hard time with the transition back to watching the shows with Joel. I always had a hard time understanding the "invention exchange." Just never clicked with me. I love Pearl Forester and Bobo and Brain Guy!
The first several episodes I watched featured Joel. I laughed, I enjoyed it, but I loved Mike so much more. His relationship with the bots really worked better, at least I thought. Plus Nelson in my eyes is, I wouldn't say funnier...but maybe his delivery is more amusing? Something like that.
I'm a mike nelson guy myself.. To me he is funnier than Joel... Joel had some good episodes, but overall I enjoy the mike nelson episodes better. Also, I like the guy who voices Crow during seasons 8-10 MUCH more than the previous crow (trace)
Joel was funny but to me Mike Nelson was funnier. He just added more energy to the show as Joel had a sleepy I am getting tired voice but he did have his moment's been a fan of both but Mike's my dude! Its sad how not too many people know about MST3K. There were time's were I would be stressed about something and these guys always cheer me up.
When Jimmy points his finger towards the distance and says, “I’ll get to you later, Curly” and crow, in a muffled, quiet, distant voice responds, “Okay.” That makes the episode for me.
@@DerekPower I grew up not too far from there. The town is a dump now, but it's a got a decent university (Marshall). Brad Dourif (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Chucky, Lord of the Rings) is from there, which is pretty cool. Mike, Bill and Kevin riffing his Grima Wormtongue in The Two Towers always cracks me up.
Damn - just like a typical Scooby-Doo episode; it was the school janitor behind everything all along. And he would have gotten away with it too, If it weren't for those meddling kids!

i'm fond of the movie as a movie. They had no budget, but they manage to have a plot, a tiny bit of mystery, escalating tension, people to root for. The leads aren't horrible actors. They got a lot right, and I forgive them the shortcomings that the lack of money cost. Also, they did one heck of a lot with a single song!
lmao i'm fascinated by the parents & the cop's scene around the 30:00 mark, i've never heard dialoge so aggresivly stilted & acting so randomly off the charts It's like Tommy Weisou built a time machine and had his family do this scene, it's so fascinatingly wrong on every leval

Aagh! I wasn't paying full attention and thought the "Is This Love?" public service film was part of Teenage Strangler. I kept wondering when the young suitor was going to strangle her.
As a matter of fact, _MST3K_ creator Joel Hodgson went on to make a TV movie about teenagers - namely an infamous one about six friends being sucked into the internet titled _Web Surferz,_ which in turn spawned the Canadian cartoon sitcom _6teen._
Jeffrey Riley well she does hang around and scream hysterically for about 3 seconds. Not a bad effort for someone who is destined to have Mikey as a future brother in law
I don't know why they were worried about their marriage, back then you could just take an unsatisfactory spouse and stone them to death in the street or drag them behind a horse
No crap! 3 months and you get married?! It's amazing that the "old fashioned" couple wait so short a time. But then, I guess when you're expected to be a virgin until marriage (pre pill) jumping into marriage seems like a good idea.
That girl from the short was dense as all get out. Your parents actually offer to buy you and your 3-month boyfriend with shaky job prospects a fucking HOUSE if you just wait a single year?? Hell I'd wait for 5 more years if it meant I got a house out of the deal!
It did have a very 50s vibe, for a 1965 movie. Maybe they were going for a 50s nostalgia kind of thing, like an old drive-in movie aesthetic. The mention of Peter, Paul, and Mary, et. al., before the decidedly 50s sounding "Yipe Stripes" (apparently based on Fruit Stripes gum advertising) song was a tad anachronistic in the overall feel of the movie.
Well, the early 60's were like the late 50's, the early 70's were like the late 60's...etc. People forget that the popular culture of each decade isn't clear cut; they kinda' flooow into the next one. BTW... what decade are we in now?
The actor John Humphries appeared at an MST3K convention in 94. He must have a great sense of humor to poke fun at his one acting gig. He definitely steals every scene he's in

Betty's mother is either drunk, on anti-psychotics or amphetimines (or maybe all three) during the police interrogation scene with her daughter. Seriously, that woman's reaction to that situation was incredibly odd.
Why does the cop tell Jimmy to bring the gang in? Isn't that _his_ job? "Yeah, you guys are prime suspects in a string of murders. If you could just pop over for a sec 'cuz I got some incriminating evidence against you. Okay? Thanks."
Even better question: why does the cop tell Mom, who tells Mikey, to tell Jimmy to call the cops, so the cop can tell his buddies to come to the station? Did they not have warrants back then?
That part really bugged me. But I guess they were committed to the script were Jimmy chases down Curly in the car and couldn't think of a more plausible way for that to happen.
I think it refers to back when long-distance was still relatively expensive and answering machines still sort of new; people who grew up during the Great Depression are known for their frugality and penny-pinching. That's how I took it, but I could be wrong.

@@chriscampbell7895 in those days movies and TV were very "idealistic" rather than realistic. So portraying old parents kind of send the message of "you should wait till youre older responsible and ready to have kids before you have sex"
For a town under the threat of a serial killer, the resident women don't seem to be taking too many precautions, like you know, locking their doors or not walking alone down poorly like alleys in the middle of the night.
