I have the Oombra MT-55 and had the Zero Y. I bought the Zero Y as an alternative to the Peak Design. I liked that I can use the ball head without raising the center column. I had issues with the Zero Y as far as build quality. They advertise the load capacity at 18kg but depending on where you look in their website the head capacity is either 5 or 3 kg. They bowl is made out of plastic and fully latched, the center column still wobbles. When I mounted my Sigma 100-400 lens, it tended to drift down. What good are legs with an 18kg capacity when you pair it with such a wimpy ball head and you cut corners on the spider construction. To add insult to injury, the hook, even with the rubber gasket tended to come lose to the point that it just falls out, I ended up losing it. I thought about installing a better ball head but the optional center column only had a 1/4 thread and it’s a single piece so you’re no longer able to get the tripod low to the ground. The thread for the foot is M8 instead of 3/8 so you will not be able to install a long spike. There were just too many compromises for me to keep it. Ordered the MT-55 just to try it out…for $69, same weight as the Zero Y. It serves the purpose as a tripod I keep in my car since it’s a 4 section tripod, it packs a little taller. The ballhead is very cheap. There’s a lot of plastic in the construction of the spider, ballhead and flip locks, as a result, the tripod is not very stiff. No adjustability in the flip locks so it will probably loosen over time. Still for the price, you get what you pay for. $69 is about what it is worth. In the end, I needed a stable tripod for landscape photography so I ended up getting a Leofoto LS324C with LH-45 ballhead for less than what I paid for the Zero Y. It suits my purpose much better. I can mount a leveling base and pan tilt head that I used for landscapes. It came with an LH-40 ballhead rated at 20kg that will handle my heaviest lenses. While it is not as light (2.85lbs without head) or packs as small (18.5” vs 16.5”) as the Zero Y, the larger diameter legs (32mm to 20mm), 4 section vs 5 section definitely makes it more stable.

Not a windy situation, but next to a fan 😂. It was stable depending on if the legs were wide enough. I didnt need a sand bag for it. So worked well for me!

Very nice comparison! I'm currently looking for a small and light travel tripod. The Ombra is very appealing to me. I got a question and a point which you got wrong in your video. First the weight of the Ombra should be 2.4 lb (~1.1kg), you said 3.4 lb, maybe a slight mistake. And second, if you remove the ballhead from the Ombra, how tall would the tripod be for storage or travel?
