i highly recommend shimano FRS HIGH RISER HANDLEBAR. they look shit from the outside and cheap AF but the bar geo is just sooooo spot on

Hi WX L1! Nice looking bars! They are almost identical to my current Nukeproof Horizon V2 bars, but have 2 mm more rise (40 vs 38). I have never seen those before and thank you for adding to the video with a great recommendation!

@@ThunderStruckMTB i had a nukeproof v2 bar before but i sold it eventually cuz it has a fairly weird backsweep angle to me.. the bar end bends downwards when the bar is rolled to my liking. im super picky on my cockpit selections so i have tried many bars & stems, such as both mentioned above, renthal/tag metal, spank, oneup, chromag and pnw. ironically the cheapest FRS riser bar suits me the best.....

@@liwx Interesting! Generally speaking, do you like your bars rolled back or forward when compared to the headtube angle of your bike? I roll mine forwards.
@liwx
@liwx Год назад
@@ThunderStruckMTB I tend to roll the handlebar backwards till the point where the upsweep is nearly parallel to the floor but not giving you the feel of ‘bending downwards’. Since my riding character is mainly gravity focused so backwards bar roll put me on the centre of bike in steepness and my wrist and palms are super relaxed. My experiences tell me the forward bar roll does help you pedal uphill more efficiently, but not necessarily comfortable or relaxed especially if you ride a bike with 65 hta or slacker these days. I personally found a bit more rear-axle centred climbing position not only help you gain more grips when pedalling uphills but also easy on your lower back

Hi mate. I have the same problem with palm numbness. I found something by chance. 2017 I upgraded my old Kona Cinder Cone. Bars Nukeproof Neutron Carbon 780 and Nukeproof Sam Hill Grips. The numbness disappeared. 2018 I got a Scott 720 and I have Installed a RaceFace Next Carbon bar 740 and Scott grips pretty much like your Ergons . Sure the grip quality is not at par but the construction logic is the same. The Numbness reappeared.!!!! This summer I get my first 29er. Nukeproof scout. It came with Neutron Alu Bars 800 and Sam Hill rips.... NO Numbness whatsoever. As like you I was fed up and accepted that y hands will be numb... but these grips are flat, soft enough on my hands and offer a secure grip. My conclusion is by no means scientific but these grips and bar combo (Nuke) allow a hand position that does not put such pressure to the nerve that passes on the outer part of palm. Its not an expensive item. Maybe you could try it out. I cant tell you that will be a fix. You know that what works for me does not mean it will work for you. I hope you find a solution. Sry for the long comment.

I went to a 12 degree backsweep 50mm rise and it feels perfect. My hand numbness and pain went away, also less stress on my neck and shoulders. Pnw has a 10 degree backsweep that feels pretty good.

Hi Justgo! I have heard a lot of good things about the SQ Labs 12 degree bars but have never even seen one on the trails much less tried one. The PNW 10s are intriguing for sure. I think taller stack heights on frames will be the next "lower, longer, slacker" geo race as bike manufactures start to realize that most trail riders add anywhere between 40 and 70mm of stack (spacers + bar rise) height to their bars. Thanks for the helpful addition to the video!

@@ThunderStruckMTB Sq lab bars are great but they’re expensive ( in Canada they’re 180 cad) i have the Ride Farr alloy supar risers , much cheaper and a lbs has them , i think jenson also carries them and are 100$ cad . Ergotech also makes hadlebars with a bit more back sweep.

I took my bars off my budget bike and bended more sweep into them with my conduit bender as a experiment . I did not want to spend money buying new bars and guess what a comfortable sweep was . I found out a substantial sweep felt the most comfortable . I think I am around 15 degrees . Bars today are not very ergonomic with the body with strain they place on hands and arms . I had tennis elbow and when I swept the bars back it went away .

That EMT bender is a multi tool after all! I have seen companies like Syntace and PNW are offering bars with dramatically more sweep than either of these bars, but I was worried about losing too much reach and cramping my cockpit. Awesome info Steve and you have given me something to research even more... thanks!

@@ThunderStruckMTB they felt good from the beginning ... I got pair for my wife and liked the feel immediately so I got myself a pair as well ... the 20/20 "M" shape doesn't reduce the reach as much as my Salsa Rustler 11 degree bar

The riser part of the bar or the "0" marking should point straight up for the upsweep and backsweep value of the handlebar to be correct. The gap in the stem is an arbitrary point because it varies from stem to stem and with the fork angle. Like you gave it, the bar is too flat and has 0 upseep and more thab advertised bacsweep. Cockpit is very personal, but tend to go baseline and tweek fron there. With the correct upsweep to backweep ratio, this could reduce the angle of your wrist when riding and lessen the strain on your nerve.
@ThunderStruckMTB
@ThunderStruckMTB Год назад
Hi Philippe! All great points! The current Nukeproof Horizon V2 bars are a great example of that because of the way the up and back sweeps align. They designed the angles so you have to roll the bars more forward than you are used to to get to the neutral rise feeling at the grip, which then doesn't shorten the cockpit as much as a standard 9 degree back sweep bar... Pretty cool! Thanks for the helpful comment and the watch!

@@ThunderStruckMTB I actually just bought these bar to have more rise than my stock bar. I have a Rocky Mountain Altitude and it has a pretty low stack. I love the fact that it rolls forward a bit. Gives me just enough reach.

@@1067148 For sure! I really liked my V2 alloy bars for that same reason. During the first install, I was way off on the roll while the bike was in the stand and once I sat on it and rolled them forward to where I like them I was shocked at how forward the roll was compared to my fork/headtube. Did you go with aluminum or carbon V2s?

Hello, did you solve the fatigue and numbness in your hands?
@ThunderStruckMTB
@ThunderStruckMTB 11 месяцев назад
Hi Alex! Yes, yes I did, but it took a carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand to fix it. About 2-3 months after I posted this video my right hand completely blew up resulting in the mandatory surgery. I have a more recent video on my channel that goes more in depth about that. I have also had good results with new bars and a fork... but the real fix for me unfortunately was a surgery. Not the answer you were probably hoping for I know if you're dealing with numb hands. My carpal tunnel video goes more into that if you're interested! Let me know if you have any specific questions I can maybe answer!

@@alexBoblee Thanks for the compliment Alex! Man do I love my Ground Controls! Do you also have problems with your hand(s) going numb/tingling while sleeping? That was my main issue and the surgery completely fixed my right hand and the night time wrist splint I now wear while sleeping has all but fixed my left hand too. Maybe try a splint on your worst hand while sleeping for a couple of months and see if that allows it to 'settle down' so it doesn't bother you while driving. I feel for you and I know how frustrating it is... best of luck to you and don't hesitate to pop in if you have any future questions that I might be able to help with.

How does the rise of the handlebars affect ride quality say a 20mm rise vs a 35mm rise?
@ThunderStruckMTB
@ThunderStruckMTB Год назад
Great question! These 3 bars are almost the same. The Renthals are a 30mm rise attached to a 6 degree rise (5mm) stem, while the 1Ups are a 35mm rise attached to a 0 degree stem and finally the Nukeproofs are a 38mm rise attached to a 0 degree stem. I prefer a higher front end as all of my rides are long and I have limited flexibility in my lower back. The higher position is great for flats and descending, but can be a little tough on the climbs where I need to get more weight over the front of the bike. For me, the higher 35ish rise bars are essential for me to even ride. Thanks for the view and question!
