This video goes over the good and bad of tire inserts, what the impacts are on your suspension, and options for types and their use case.
I go over Cuschcore, NukeProof, and TuboLight.
Installing them can be a pain, so I go over what to expect so you can decide if this is the right path for you.
Is going to a heavier casing tire the better choice?

Running hardtail mountain bikes I feel cushcore in the rear helps dampen the beating you’ll normally get. But I may experiment taking one out and see how it is. I also like 2.6 tires for extra volume of air to help cushion more as well.

On a 29er I do not like 2.6, the volume acts like a tennis ball. And Inserts exagerate this to raquet ball status. They work as a volume reducer just like on suspension. On a hardtail the trade off is protection and I get that.

Great info. Great comment about running a heavier casing tire too, instead if an insert. That was a revelation.

Nice video - have you tried the Vittoria Gravel. Out here in KY the roads I ride go from regular gravel to really rocky and chunky. I have run the Cushcore and while they have saved my rim a few times I dread ever having to take them out on a ride. Always wondered how the sealant gets by the insert when it touches the sides - how do the Tubolights do to let the sealant by. Don't use to stop flats but to save rims. Have a set of Vittorias but have not used them so may look at the Tubolights.

The Vittoria I have touches the sides and is similar to cushcore, so I don't use them. The tubolight lets the sealant by well and protects the rim while being very light. I mostly ride my gravel bike on singletrack, so rock strikes are very real, and I have avoided flats and rim damage all year long. And I can change tires without a fight!

I have not, but they are on the list. What would you say makes yours better?

@@LoamRoamer All tire inserts are great. We really love how our tire insert stays a float with its suspended wings, bringing it to the center pocket of the tire. Really allows for the insert to flex and work with the tire. Our *dual air chamber* design is like suspension for your tire. Cheers

Hi! I'm looking for tire inserts for my cyclocross bike - I'm using 33c tires on 23 mm width rims. Which Tubolight version of inserts would you recommend?
@LoamRoamer

At that tire width, the Evo Road. If you go for a bigger tire, then the gravel version.
