Random *Odd* Lore: Obosh apparently has 347 legs. "Obosh the Preypiercer is a legendary hellion horror from the plane of Ikoria.[1] When the planeswalker Vivien Reid encountered the monstrous Obosh, her irrational first instinct was to count how many legs it had. However, she later realized it would be better to do so while keeping a safe distance from the monster. At some point, Vivien managed to count how many legs Obosh has: the answer is 347.
Amazing games! Especially liked the one against Rakdos Sacrifice. Love all the calculations, complications, mindgames. That is what I love about magic!
"Playing for ante" comment made my day. I still remember the pain of opening up packs back in 94-95 and getting ante cards in the rare slot. (Looking at you Amulet of Quoz and Demonic Attorney!)
you prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I love any tips you can offer me
I love this deck, so fun to play! It has won me several games against flash variants. I only have 2 Ayaras so I threw in 2 Lurrus, and he works quite well in the deck too.
Definitely a solid addition. It didn't seem super needed with Gutterbones already coming back and Whisper Squad getting more copies, but recurring Scorpion is more exciting.
LegenVD Isn’t there a better alternative than the Gutterbones? I get that it keeps coming back. But it’s pretty slow IMO. Especially if you add Lurrus to the deck, wouldn’t a creature with haste be better. Like the hound with lifelink?
Against sakdos deck they would have had another turn if they used priest in response to the scorpion trigger. If they use priest they sac 2 creatures (probably lurus and reveler, since obosh would be dying before combat damage so they wouldn't get lifelink off of lurus and would want to keep mayhem pings) and you sac 1, they also sac food and gain three up to 6. They use all those sac pings on obosh and kill him. They then lose two life from the scorpion trigger, then go to combat damage and knight gets in for 2 bringing them down to 2. At this point they have priest and devil on the field, as well as 3 more food (only two of which they can afford to sac if they don't top deck land). Meanwhile you would have a knight, work strider, and goat token as well as a much more comfortable life total. It would have been interesting to see where that match went but I think you still had it
I play a Rakdos version with Weaponize the Monsters, Judith, Mayhem Devils. Really funny to sacrifice one Scorpion to deal like 10 damages to the face.
That Sac Battle was awesome! Still curious how the Priest Activation in response would have turned out. Anyways, nice gameplay and commentary as always. Love the content, keep it up :)
Funny how when I go to see your videos, I recognize the deck I just played against. Easy win, BTW. Opp conceded as soon as I dropped the Deafening Clarion.
Bastion of Remembrance should be ok here, odd course. Tried the deck, I didn't like the Reapers, with the double damage a sweeper can self-kill you, so I put Regisaurs instead. Also trying a couple of 5 drops: Cavalier, Sir Grym, Tickles...
Fantastic deck and video, as always! One question, though, if you don't mind me asking: "I tried my best not to include the cat+oven combo, which is pretty tempting" Was that to keep things interesting, or did it just not pan out in this particular build?
He explained that it was really a bit of both. Cat's damage doesn't get doubled with Obosh, and we can infer by his phrasing that most Obosh decks would be running cat oven, so he opted not to so he could spice things up
MTG did it before : "The first card that cared [about even/odd] showed up in Ice Age all the way back in 1994". MTGA doesn't "introduce" new elements, MTG does it. magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/ikoria-beholder-part-1-2020-04-20 in the part about Obosh
Would Judith the Scourge Diva not be a good inclusion in the deck? Her Anthem boost power as well and her death trigger deals damage which is doubled with Obosh.
Hey, LVD! Wouldn't it be also nice to just run the cat-ovem-devil deck combo with this companion? or at least run the bastion of rememberance in the sideboard? what about 3 color? - mardu? at least you had good old tajic protect u from jeskai fires's clarion - and whats about judith? anyway, i find midnight reaper quite dangerous because once uve had played ur companion he could shoot you dead too - didnt that ever happen to u? best regards
Losing life is not the same as dealing damage (because the creature itself doesn't deal the loss of life, it's more like a passive effect that is caused by the creature when it's on the battlefield). Hence, it won't get doubled by obosh. LVD briefly touched on this while talking about trying not to include cat-oven in the deck tech. But basically that's the reason why the reaper won't shoot you down after obosh is in play. And the cat-oven-devil combo might still be really good in this deck but I think Legend was trying to avoid putting it in on principle 😅
Can someone tell me how the enemy player was able to sac Kroxa with the oven? I am new to mtg arena and I built a deck like that, but I never get time or a prompt to allow me to sac kroxa. Is there a setting I need to turn on or am I missing something?
You need to have full control enabled. This allows you time to respond to kroxa needing to sac itself. I would then turn it back off until you need it again, as having to pass on every trigger is insane.
I used to play in paper tournaments and I did briefly have a Pro Player status before the entire system changed. Nowadays I'm more interested in making content.
I have more fun with Orzhov. Teysa Karlov is too good right now with the cat/oven/priest shell with scorpion, hunted witness, cruel celebrant, and Tithe Taker etc. non companion Lurrus as a 4 of to tie it all together. It recovers really well from board wipes
One specifically says 'damage' the other says 'lose life'. Damage causes loss of life, but life loss doesn't count as damage. Obosh only doubles damage.
She's great if you go Rakdos, but there is also a cost associated with adding a second color. Once you go Rakdos you might as well play Devil and add Cat + Oven which is something I wanted to avoid.
whisper squad can't be good enough for standard. I don't believe it. Even with the synergies with ayara and heraldic banner, it can't be the only good 1 drop for black. If you use it once it's 3 mana raise the alarm. Like compare it to piper of the swarm that also can make 1/1s for 2 mana but can do it indefinitely and has additional upside and has similar stat value for the mana. I know it's an even card but piper wasn't close enough to being good enough for standard. It feels like the deck has difficulty getting to 5 mana oddly (lol) enough. Despite banner basically adding 4 more lands. Maybe foulmire knight? Maybe cat oven? Idk.
