as someone who puts so much effort into making videos with perfect thumbnails, and an overall consistent format, i was wondering wether adding lessons to your sideboard in other colors causing the deck to become become that extra color annoys you as much as if does myself.
@@LegenVD 😂 i had a nagging suspicion you might say something like that. i really hope they add an option to maybe manually change the colors of a deck.
You can cycle curse of silence by attaching it to yourself naming a card you have in hand, playing the card paying the extra cost, and sacing curse to draw a card. 3 mana cycle mode is a very reasonable rate that can be useful in alot of situations.
15:42 I dont think you would need to answer your own curse of surveillance to avoid decking out. I think for "any number of players", you could submit zero players to prevent any card draw if necessary. Anyways pretty neat deck as always!
@@LegenVD Yeah I just meant when there's a "submit 0" button right there every time that you're clicking past. (Would have been very funny if you actually did end up decking because of this in one of the games.)
I'm starting to believe you can make a masterpiece deck with any card you want, LVD. This one looks specially interesting because is quite different of the "metagame decks" in the format. Amazing videos always, thanks for it!
It's why it always makes me sad that everyone sleeps on Blot out the Sky. Also, you can submit 0 for Surveillance so that you don't have to draw anymore.
Blot out the Sky is godawful. Every time you read it, you realise another downside to it. The tokens come in tapped and it doesn't even destroy creatures at 8 mana.
@@r12365 It's not bad in current standard because people are using a lot of treasure tokens. Tapped doesn't matter much as long as you're stabilized and you're attacking next turn with an army of 2/1 flyers.
You could get in 4 Sedgemore Witches and 2 Poppet Stitcher, which makes you nearly allways have chompers while deciding every turn if you want to transform board to leathal or draw or get more chompers or a combination of everything while still having all control elements available. I left 2 Hole, 2 Silence, 3 Surveillance and 3 Leeches and its looking very good so far. Great Deck so far!
Curse of surveilance seems to have a draw-mill deck potential - when you have two spare curses, enchant yourself, add some curses of silence naming cards you don't play and deck the opponent in one turn. Sumbit 0 players for drawing until then, to prevent the opponent from benefitting in the meantime.
I had a hunch that Curse of Silence was going to be an amazing card for control decks, because the meta is so well-defined that we usually can predict our opponents' plays. It certainly gets even better in best of three. About that, aside from adding 7 other cards, would you change anything in you learnboard for BO3? Perhaps tone it down a bit to get more versatility when sideboarding?
When playing Bo3, you gotta drop down to only 3 or 4 learn cards, and use the sideboard for tuning the deck. Environmental Sciences is often good to help get lands early, but maybe only 1 or 2 other cards that you know you'll want at some point. Like Academic Probation, or Confront the Past. Then put the better "situation specific" cards in your sideboard for boarding in between matches. The great thing about the lesson cards is they let you tune the learn-board to help you situationally in Bo1, while there are usually just better options to switch into the deck for Bo3. For instance Containment Breach is really just a worse Broken Wings. So, forget the lesson card and just plan on side-boarding in Broken Wings Against Enchantment/Artifact dependent decks. In other cases, like Simic or Temur, maybe you need to be able to Exile something that you just cant do normally in those colors. So you leave the Introduction to Annihilation in the board, even though Black and White have MANY, MANY better options to exile things, so you would not use that lesson card in Bo3 with Black or White, but maybe you would if you do.
It’s kinda messed up, but I sometimes joke to myself that the “MTG Original Decks” channel is where LVD goes to get ripping drunk and just rages at the meta all night lol
So after watching the first 2 matches, makes me wonder if there aren't some cards that could benefit from discarding or draw. Like wizard class for unlimited hand size and pumping your creatures per draw. Or something that can bring cards back from graveyard, namely lands? Not sure what unlimited mana solves, just seems like there could be value getting what you discard on to the battle field or back.
what kind of sideboard would be good for this deck in best of three? i know it's not the strongest but i really like the archetype and want to try to compete with it. it's the most fun i've had playing standard since doom foretold rotated
Would there ever be a reason to play Starnheim Unleased over Emerias Call? Seems 7mana for two 4/4s but a foretold Starnheim would be 7 *mana for three 4/4s?
It feels like this deck can be a bit high on the mana curve for the cards that really do the work, so it's pretty nice to have the mana option on Emeria.
Portable Hole is so dead. Even vs aggro it’s not great (Skyclave Apparition). You’re playing Black and white, sub it for Unexpectedly Absent or Bloodchief’s Thirst
Curious, let’s say you use curse of leeches on yourself, do you lose one life then gain one life? If so then I bet you could make some gnarly B/W life gain or ajani deck. Edit: also would curse of surveillance be good in a Niv-Mizzet deck? I see that being pretty strong.
Hm, interesting idea. By my reading of the rules I think it would count as a gain life event and a life loss event, yeah. With that said, I would've thought there are simpler ways to trigger life gain every turn; for instance Fountain of Renewal only costs 1 and gives you that life every upkeep. On the other hand I dunno what would do that in standard right now.
I missed it myself at first, but I'm pretty sure Curse of Surveillance's card draw is optional. "Any number of players" can be zero. So it shouldn't lead to self-decking unless you're looking for a creative way to forfeit.
It's funny how bad curse of silence is with these matchups. Every opponent plays "something unexpected" or just jank in other words. And still curse of silence was "unexpectedly" over performing...
A one mana curse would still be good even if it had no other text. Powering up Surveillance is what it’s all about. So if it does anything impactful on top of that it’s a great card.
so curse of salience sucks massive balls, in most of the matches it did nothing, curse of surveillance is great for mill control if you cast it on your self to trick your opponent into drawing cards. curse of leeches are great when you pair it with curse of shaken faith because your opponent can do there best to keep it as day and cast spells and take damage from both of them OR they can let it become night and you get a 4/4 with lifelink. otherwise not that great vs any deck
