Just want to note my continued appreciation for your annotations about alternate lines of play. Helpful to learn from/think about, and also nice to see a streamer willing to do self-reflection :)
The second I saw Plumb the Forbidden I thought “LVD will know how to break this card” Awesome to see you do a witherbloom build. I think it’s my favorite of the colleges from strixhaven. My dream combo: Daemogoth Titan and Tend the Pests!
The real dream is have sedgemoor witch, bastion and Daemogoth titan out, then tend the pests on the titan, the plumb all the pests and get all your pests back plus 12 cards lol.
I'm brand new to MtG as of about a month ago. I was able to craft this deck with enough packs/wildcards. Tons of fun to play and a strong deck for a beginner like me
Nice! I've been testing different variants of reanimator (so far Mardu seems the most consistent). Which builds have you tried so far (do you run the 6 drop demon)?
@@drejerm7856 Was trying to judge whether an onslaught of Questing Beasts is more unfair than a steady stream of removal but yeah it's definitely the Beasts haha
i'm running 4x tend the pest and 2x blex > sedgemoor and rankle (because I don't have them yet) all of a sudden I love this set. I'm winning way more. all my previous decks I put together are trash compared to this. THANK YOU!
This was my first deck to try out for Strix, so much fun to see all those triggers happen. I didnt think to slot in rankle, just went all in with Dina, Valentin and witherbloom apprentice.
Culling ritual also works really well, doesn’t kill the witch and it generates 1 mana no matter what if you have the witch out because a pest is created before the effect. Liliana’s standard Bearer also can be super good for card draw.
great video as always! I build almost the same deck a few days ago . Only I ended up taking the removal out for a couple of vitos for the lifelink, and also the aprentices i found to be the key to victory, in my opinion anyways
@@TheChzoronzon it becomes a bit of a win more card. Doesn't help you win if you're not already ahead. And makes the deck have less interaction and more susceptible to removal, of which there is a lot in standard right now
@@bullshifterz8815 Same as Dina... and I dunno, in a stalled board, Vito means the win unless removed in 1 turn, they are Plum 5-6 I'd play 4 Dina, but the legendary rule makes me want a 2-3/2 split I play with 2-3 Dragonsguard, who go well with Vito, that helps too... Aprentices always die to Bonecrusher, I tend to avoid anything 2-3 CC with 2 thoughness, that's why I cut most of them for Foulmires, I like the early deathouch and the late adventure counting as sorcery. DragonsG are 2 thoughness, but it's pretty easy to bait Bonecrushers and then cast any instant to fizzle them. Finally, I prefer Vito to the Witch for 6 mana Awakenings That's my best attemp at sound convincing, lol
@@TheChzoronzon agreed. i split 2-2 dina, vito. and use the aprentices as a bit of a lightning rod, I mean if not removed it can win the game too but it helps the witch survive.
Ok, ok i was wrong! Pest IS awesome. Maybe i was unlucky in my first attempts but now i have finally a deck that can even reach mythic. It is also fun to play and can be a real lifegain machine!
You beat me to it once again. I had similar idea for a deck with pests, but to use the Plumb in combo with Prof Onyx. I wanted to play some more drafts first to get the cards, but I guess you were faster :D Great deck anyway. And quite a budget one, wildcard-wise speaking!
Been seeing this one a lot as a new favorite. Reminds me a little of old school Rakdos sacrifice. Are you planning a deck with smuggle- er, zephyr boots?
Very similar to my current pet project, but your deck is better probably. I use more learn, Bayou Groff to kill my eyetwitches, and the b/g apprentice. Also Blood on The Snow to kill all my pests and return a Dina for the Wombo Combo.
@@jaystehly6084 When I wrote that I was only thinking if she was in your yard before you Blood, so yeah that way doesn't work. Obviously if you wrath with her on the board you still get the triggers.
@@jaystehly6084 And for some reason I was thinking she was draining life on kills...sorry totally forgetting she deals a damage per life gain I'm stoopid :s
Love this style of deck though I run Vito instead of bastion, he can enable lifelink for a whole army of attacking pests, though the bastion is definitely harder to remove. I also play a bit more aggro utilizing blexx and woe eater to smack a bit harder, and they both can be sacked for life to enable Dina and vito/bastion.
I have one that dropped green and splashed white for the white leonin 2 drop with Magecraft that boost all creatures by 1/1 per instant or sorcery. Dropping green doesn’t lose that much
In the mono green poison match, wouldn't it have been better not to sac the 1/1 and keep him as blocker for fynn, and casting mortality spear on the questing beast?
I'll pay you with my devotion if you can construct a legitimate Codie standard deck before it goes out of rotation (spent 4 wildcards on it after deciding that it would be a good idea to try and give it to the opponent using the Heist saga, didn't go well)
Continuing on the idea of the Heist Saga, someone gave the idea of milling both and then using Dance of the Manse to switch it for an enemy creature, but then you'd have a 3/3 staring at you anyway... so maybe you cast PACIFISM on it?
It's been mostly considered an EDH/Brawl card from all the discussions I found here. Remember you can't cast permanents, but you can reanimate stuff, use abilities of PWs who are already on the board, take extra turns etc. Put the biggest creatures you can imagine in the GY and Unbreakable Bond it on turn 4.
@@ArchbardWava yeah, its just one of those cards that is frustratingly interesting, but not good enough that it will ever see any serious standard play. My strategy was to have a lot of 3 mana spells, use Codie's ability, cascading into a guaranteed Mercurial Transformation, at which point you cast the Heist. Unfortunately, where Nine Lives was somewhat hard to remove, especially while on your side of the board, Codie dies to both artifact and creature removal, even if you have already passed it to the opponent.
I have been toying with this quite a bit... imho, Vito is a really good idea, and Lilionix tempting too. Maybe Dragonsguard Elite but I'm not so sure about her. And Valentin probably > Bateye
@@LegenVD I substituted them for Foulmire Knights, I guess both have their advantages... I like how FK stalls the board, which is something this deck needs while assembling its combos
48:12 Did you not have lethal in that position if you played land, played rankle and attacked with the 2 flyers or even attack all? Opponent has 2 mana, he could potentially plumb or use spot removal on rankle but not both so even with the life gain they still seem dead, since you can still village rites after attacking although if you attack with all I don't think it would even be necessary. Rankle can also deal 2 extra damage via 2 of the modes (draw lose 1 life and sacrifice triggering bastion). Seems like more than enough damage whichever way I look at it.
Surprised you didn't put in that Witherbloom Apprentice, makes for quite an explosive finish. Would you replace something for it or keep it as is? Not sure how it'd be more consistent and far from having the wildcards.
I talk about it a little bit in the mirror matches. I prefer Dina as a creature that doesn't die to Stomp. It often deals more extra damage than the Apprentice.
Given that we want as many Lessons in the board as possible Jegantha is less valuable than usual. But if you really want to make room for it you could try either Apprentice or extra spot removal.
Are 24 lands too many? I get that you want to be double spelling, but its a really cheap deck (4 mana seems perfect) and with 23 lands you could put an order of midnight in to get back sedgemore after they inevitably kill it and also trigger it
Dina already does most of what Vito brings to the table. While having both can be nice we also can't spend too much time setting up our combo pieces before actually starting to sacrifice stuff.
I assume he edits out boring losses for the same reason nobody would keep coming back to a channel they don't like: why spend time on something nobody will enjoy. The loss he kept in here was quite interesting, I thought.
@@alivejoker2967 I guess it was his way if saying this deck gets utterly crushed by Sultai Ultimatum... Or any deck playing Extinction Event/Shadow's Verdict. Not sure if it can win against monored, too.
@@LaurentCassaro thank you for the explanation I thought the same thing but the dude commenting seemed to be mad about it or trying to be passive-aggressive
How come no one uses daemogoth the 11/10 for 4 mana with tend the pests thats 11 pests... plus wither bloom apprentice 2/2 gain life opponent loses life, I prefer this over 5/5 love struck, vito’s cool I suppose but these love struck pest decks don’t capitalize on pests all that well.. I get it 5/5 for 3 but there’s a 11/10 for 4...
@@soybomb777 I mean I get it has value but maybe I’d replace village rites with woe strider it has a free sac on a body plus scry. I’m still not sold on love struck beast when I can make 11 pests vs a 5/5 plus 1 pest which is essentially 11 more dmg plus 11 more Health gained with wither bloom apprentice, not to mention rememberance and Dina
@@TheChzoronzon ok so I replace daemogoth with LSB , LSB gets removed or countered anyway What’s the difference between choosing LSB or daemogoth for tend the pests?
I don't think you're opponents are "exploding" because they've "seen enough" as much as they're leaving because you're playing an Eggs deck that takes 3 minutes every turn and they'd rather move onto a non solitaire match.
