Mtg Deck Tech: Orzhov Clerics in ZNR Standard! 

Containment Priest is a good Magic card even if it doesn’t have exactly the text box I’d like it to

Local Greek nerd checking in: Hierophant is Greek for ‘a speaker of holy things’ (hieros = holy, phantos = of the man speaking)! It turns out the phonetic similarity to elephant is just coincidence, since it comes from elephas (meaning ‘ivory’) ☺️ Hope that helps remember or is at least mildly interesting!!

Just a quick note. Containment priest does not stop adventure creatures even from exile as you are still casting them. Also it doesn't stop escape from the wilds as again you are still casting them. What it does stop is creatures entering off of Genesis Ultimatum. Imo Drannith Magistrate is better as a 2-2 split.

Black weight cleric's was my first deck win I started playing almost 20 years ago.

Dev, a Cleric of Life's Bond, an Attended Healer, and a Relic Vial, gets me a scoop turn 4 every time.

I've been rocking clerics off and on since the drop and my list is very similar to yours. Mangara has impressed in my main deck - often drawing me about 3 cards a game if he comes in during a midrange opponent. Quick note - I think you have Containment Priest mixed up with Drannith Magistrate (got both in my sideboard).

Bruh what a fun deck to play, been cruising with it in Ranked for an hour now. Well done, this is the type of Magic gameplay I hope R&D gets back to as a staple in standard

I love these video essay intros so much.

Really like this version of clerics and definitely love the addition of the DFCs to help in the late game. Hopefully becomes much more possible now with the banning of Uro, Omnath, Escape to the Wilds and Lucky Clover. Great video :)

I was agonizing over how to make my own version yesterday and had mixed results. Have to say, I'm very happy to see this. Will definitely take some of this into account.

I've been playing a very similar deck to this, and having great results (in platinum arena lul) mixing in Angel of Destiny as well as Duskfang mentor! AoD can be a great finishing card, especially since there's so much lifelink in this deck already, and Duskfang mentor adds great synergy by giving Taborax lifelink before reaching +5/+5 (or a cleric of life's bond), plus buffing all your lifelinkers every turn if you want. Angel of Destiny combined with Vito is also insane.

I had envisioned and started play testing with some success a different taborax deck. Taborax and 4x alseid and the doggo. Use them to sac and protect taborax growing him, keeping him alive. Works very well, but haven't figured out the rest of the spells in the deck yet.

Historic clerics! The elephant man and orah, skyclave hierophant. That would be something to break.

I've built a version of this deck that uses Heliod, Sun Crowned to really pile on the +1/+1 counters and get a big gross beater to keep up pressure. Cleric of Life's Bond+Heliod I've gotten 9/9 CoLB that you can give lifelink every turn as well as buffing up Speaker so he can trigger himself. It's also hella easy to get Devotion that creates another beefy attacker. I'd really suggest it. I would definitely suggest Heliod to have a second win con other than Taborax, like he just synergizes so well i can't imagine they didn't design them to not use him

Taken my cleric deck through platinum almost higher. But it’s good to see different versions. I use the relic vile when knowing my creatures are going to die and use Orah and Angel of Destiny. As well as Marauding Bright Priest. 👍🏼

Honestly this video just reaffirmed how badly I miss Onslaught block. I started playing MTG when Judgement came out, so Odyssey and Onslaught blocks are special to me but seriously, Clerics just haven't been anywhere close to as good as they were then. My hope is for a remaster on Arena. Though, Goblin Piledriver and Pyromancer might be a bit too much alongside Muxis LOL. As far as standard goes, we will likely have to wait for the D&D set and pray that they will actually give real support to the party mechanic at that point

Idea: Lurrus. Run Lurrus as a 3 of, cutting Vito and a copy of the Cleric Pridemate. You lose out on some cleric synergy but in return you get HELLA recursion and grind. Or you could run no emerias call and cut one agadeems awakening for Lurrus for big boi recursive again

I've got an Orzhov Clerics deck too!!! Running 2x Mangara main but I'm surprised you haven't spoken about Drana, the Last Bloodchief! She's a cleric although with a huge target on her back... Not the most amazing card but with all our creatures being clerics she gives the opponent some tough choices to make. Also. What do you think of the new black enchantment/creature removal? Sideboard worthy?

Hey Dev, just an idea: could we make a split in 'Budget' for paper and for arena? What's budget on paper is not necessarily on Arena, the other way around it's usually both budget. Put this deck in and it stil costs me like 12 rares and 6 mythics so not too budget for me

I'm confused on Orah. What cmc is being referred to for returning clerics? Orah's or the dying other creature? It's not very clear.

Playing white? Dranith magistrate is still in the format, can at least force your opponent to kill it before playing adventures from adventure zone or cards off escape to the wilds.

Tbh I don't see why ppl complain about omnath i have a budget deck the beats it superfast. Mono blue mill is easy when u have 2 tuteleges and play into the story you pay 4 they mill 24 there's half your deck gone or kick the new blue rare mill card and there go's half there dec rounded up plays 4 of each.

man this is what i hate the most about mtg arena.. treating all gold/mythic cards with same value..... like can we not have like power ranking for gold/mythic cards sorted with different values or something? to make this cool deck in paper it is dirt cheap but since paper magic is no longer viable right now, if i make this in mtga, it would be almost as expensive a tier 1 deck.....
