MTG Lore: Oath of the Gatewatch 

How exactly does Jace fight? Does he bore the Eldrazi to death with politics?

I think it'll be good in the long run. Making mascots for the MTG brand is a necessary step in making our dreams of an MTG movie or series that much closer to a reality.

I think the Gatewatch idea is great and once it's all sorted out it will provide some reoccurring and familiar faces in story, just so long they don't completely take over.

I can easily see Bolas becoming a direct enemy of the Gatewatch. I think this is a really cool development, and I hope that other walkers are recruited into the Gatewatch. It's like the MTG equivalent of the Avengers.

I think it's kind of a good idea; as it will give some kind of story related link for all the planeswalkers in that set, giving each set a good guys vs bad guys theme and that would help people get into the lore and it could mean that we get a few more powerful cards to balance either side of it.

Ya know with the kind of carnage that goes on in MTG I'm surprised it took this long to get a group like the Gatewatch

Too cool! Love this story line. Didn't thing anything could top Born of the Gods, then Kahns, happened, then this. Wow! Hooked for life.

I can see this intersecting another storyline. There is one other GREAT threat to the Multiverse: The Glistening Oil. After the Eldrazi I can see them aiding Koth & Karn in retaking Mirrodin, & perhaps other planes claimed by the oil.

I feel like any team, the planeswalkers need to fully commit to each other as a team to get the job done as a cohesive unit. The heroes always win but it's going to be a long and drawn out fight.

+Seibenlore To keep moving forward with hope is a true aspects of courage and perseverance. This also is an act of honor. What I mean is this alone shows the will of no one man but an entirety of two or more individuals either physically beside each or spiritually beside each other. I think that oath the 4 made was a true act of what I or any other person or people would do in these 4s shoes. To keep moving forward means to keep your head up high; cast aside your fears and to jump into action. This is a trait, that I believe, is in everyone of us. To see hope even in a time of turmoil as this, as the eldrazi, is a true act of moving forward. So Seibenlore my answer is yes I believe that moving is a good act, trait and aspect that every person should have. For this I believe, I will keep watch!

oath provides a lore reason for planeswalker reprints in each block. only time will tell as they move to the new 2 card set format.

I think it's a good thing that there is now something to tie each Plain's story together in an overarching way, but it will suck if from now on it's just the Gatewatch in different wacky situations rather than each Plain actually having it's own stories. Basically, I want the stories from the Plain's perspective and not the Plainswalkers'.

Gives a great opportunity to tackle some of the big threats that Wizards has kind of ignored lately by introducing the watch. Pyrexia, Bolas, I'm looking at you.

In a way it's like a callback to the Urza and the other Planeswalkers who stood against the Phyrexians. This can do well if done in moderation. Say every couple of years they comeback.

And then they went to Amenket ! You get a defeat ! You get a defeat ! You all get a defeat !

I do consider that the "Gatewatch" is a good idea, so far, magic sets have had only minor and sometimes, poor connections between them, like how Elspeth left Myrrodin and ended in Theros just cause she had to be there for the story, the reason itself was really poor, but it sort of worked for the story, same with how Gideon started in Alara and he's now in Zendikar cause that's where his fight took him to, funny enough, for a planeswalker who's entire drive is to protect the innocent, he missed some really important event where he would've made more sense to be in, but with the "Gatewatch" now formed, the group becomes a common link in order to drive the story forward, like now they could move on to help Liliana cause of her past with Jace and she could end up being the black mana Planeswalker that they need to make the first 5 once again, also being a centered group means that they bring to the table all their possible enemies for future sets, like if Liliana joins them the "Ravenman" could appear latter to be an antagonist, same for Jace who already has Tezzeret out to get him, each one of them as of now, would be a driving force to take the story forward and that could lead to places where the already mentioned "old story" would not go, since now every single expansion will be link to the over-arching story, not just a random plane where cool and terrible stuff happens and one of them is just there cause of blind luck.

I think this is important because eventually they will have to fight bolas, and yes i think he will get his power back making him potentially more dangerous than the eldrazi, and I don't think any one of them could do it alone.

I don't mind the story focusing on the gatewatch, but the story is feels more like a saturday morning cartoon than an epic fantasy story.

By the image in the end the eldrazi Titans are huge

Personally, I think this change of story telling could be good for the continuity of the game. It can also be overdone, but if handled well they could return thematically to the cross-block story telling of Weatherlight (which wasn't necessarily executed as well, but the story was intriguing, at least to me). Having a sense of continuity is helpful for building characters that change and grow, rather than having to start out fresh in every single block. On the other hand, this doesn't mean every block needs to be married to the Gatewatch concept, but everything can be tied together in some fashion, and new walkers - friend and foe alike - can be introduced, along with old, non-Gatewatch walkers returning. There is at least potential here, so I am curious to see what they do with it.

I don't see an issue with the Gatewatch. I think it's cool. In duel of the planeswalker they essentially said Gideon was going to form the a unity of planeswalkers. I'm just surprised it took so long.

In all honesty, where's Sorin? He has connection to Zendikar too. Is he still in Tarkir? Or is he going back to Innistrad?

Calling it right now, emrakul is going to alara, one of the only planes besides zendikar that has the largest amount of mana, and we all know how much the eldrazi like that

I see the Gatewatch as the justice league/ avengers of MTG. Gideon is superman, stubborn and committed to the protection of others, while Jace is Batman, calculating and strategic (strong without strength). Which superhero correspond with Nissa and Chandra respectively?

I hope that they get new planeswalkers and rotate out some older ones. Nice undertale end music

The world is being completely destroyed and all you planeswalkers can come up with is FRIENDSHIP? I personally dislike this ending because this is the one thing I hoped never would happen in Magic. They just go the easy "teamwork" way out. The breakdown: Gideon: "If we work as a team then we will win and the Eldrazi will die! For this reason I will keep watch." Nissa: "If that's what it will take to get you idiots to stay, then sure, I'll keep watch." Jace: "I kinda feel bad after being such a jerk to Nissa and I don't want to be that one guy that loses a plane to these things, so I guess if that makes you happy I'll keep watch." Chandra: "I got over my rebellious phase and I'm looking for something to commit to, so yeah, why not? Sure, I'll keep watch." POWER RANGERS GO!!!!!! And this is how Zendikar was saved. Sadly.

As long as they don't tie the Gatewatch into everything, I think it will be good.

I dont like a group of planeswalkers running around being all buddy buddy killing evil, every plane has its own story with some connection to the other planes but this maybe means they will most of the time jump in when there is danger. Who knows maybe an eldrazi eats one of them :)

Who Watches the Watchers?

I wouldn't want to have the gatewatch constantly associated with future MTG sets. It's too much of an Advengers type of thing, too much good guys vs. bad guys which, in my opinion, makes Magic less magical. MTG is bigger than that, bigger than planeswalkers even. good to have a justice league with new-coming members and everything, but don't overdue it or it'll get old really fast.
