Legends of Runeterra proved that it works as an evergreen keyword in a card game, and when it comes to combat itself, that game is very similar to MTG, so I am surprised it hasn't caught on in Magic. Maybe it's because of the comparably weaker spells that Provoke worked so well in that game? Or maybe it's the fact damage doesn't fall off at the end turn in MTG? I am not sure

I think they struggled to balance the mechanic. It is an incredibly strong mechanic, maybe stronger even than double strike. This might be why the cards with provoke are generally bad, they were too scared to put the keyword on anything strong.

@@steve_jackson9933 Lure doesn't untap tapped creatures and it forces everything to block your lured creature. Meanwhile with provoke, especially in sliver decks, you can have multiple beneficial blocks, per creature, instead of having a single creature be blocked by everything your opponent has, and more importantly, you can untap creatures they tapped and force em to block. Usually the issue with lure is that it won't hit tapped creatures so provoke is better in that regard. Basically lure is there for when you wanna get an attacker through by sacrificing a weaker creature, while provoke is more intended for killing creatures than for doing damage to the opponent. Entirely different utility.

It's not bad, but it's essentially nonfunctional vs a creature with a tap ability, which is often what you want to kill in the first place. If they were willing to reverse-Companion it and make it so provoked creatures can't activate abilities until the declare blockers step, that would be pretty rad though.

It's honestly my favorite keyword ability And when I play my sliver deck. Oh Lord, is it so fun to untap someone's Commander, And force it to just die to a sliver legion

I have been under onslaught by a constant legion of viruses. One after another, I get sick, I get better, I get sick again. It's really annoying. Yet not even that will stop me from getting "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!

My first true set. I started playing about 3 weeks before Legions came out. Akroma, Angel of Wrath was the first card I paid folding money for.

I think it would be cool if they did a set that was 100% sorceries and instants. But that would never go over with the crowds. Ahhh the days when the MTG home page was more fun and had interesting articles like teasing Akroma and Phage.

You'd have to make lots of cards that make creature tokens, and I think that would get kind of old.

@@NizzahonMagic Agree. Creatures are essential to 98% of decks even my creatureless planeswalker/instant and sorcery deck makes tokens with a few cards. Though I can also adjust it so that there are zero, but as I said people love creatures. I don't blame them. Legions was memorable and really thrust my personal involvement in MTG Krosan Cloudscraper being one of my all time favs for being one of the biggest creatures of its time with minimal drawback other than its cost and upkeep.

It was 2 packs of Onslaught, 1 pack of Legions for booster draft. Later they did reverse order (Scars block) but they did not go heavier with the newer sets They did not go double new set until Oath of the Gatewatch.

I really want a new Akroma, to be the best creature card again Something like 6 mana, 6/6. Can't be countered, can't be sacrificed, indestructible, ward 2, trample, vigilance, haste, first strike, lifelink flying

Absolutely loved this video. Through so much of my history playing magic, The cards from legions, have been some of the most like accessible cards in my hands. Like every card on this list I have physically played with, Or an opponent has. Every one of these cards is just so good

I always wanted to experience this set, ended up buying x3 packs of this along with a ton of other sets to do a chaos draft with my brothers several years back. Unfortunately, the website sent me 3 packs of Legends instead of Legions. This was sometime around 2012 I believe. I cracked one out of curiosity, opened a land equilibrium.

I played a card in my rakdos goblins deck during onslaught block that used clickslither as a "gotcha!" Moment. That card was fun!

I started playing when this block was new and it has everything I love about magic, the classic creatures types, slivers, no crazy shenanigans with spells, the art was amazing. How I miss this magic era

I remember I got my 8 year old sister into Magic when Legions came out. She pulled an Akroma in her second pack. I had to protect her from predatory trades by teenagers and young adults more than I ever had to for shady boyfriends.

First off you’re wrong about the date legions was released in 2000-2001 I should know I started playing in onslaught which it was released in 2000 and been playing the game for 24yrs it was the first set that gave us slivers
