The wildfire deck that was in standard was piloted by Kai Budde. The deck was an absolute monster. There were many ways to pull off wildfire in that deck not to mention many different win cons. I had the tournament deck version of it and none of my friends wanted to play against it.

I had random magic cards but near the end of my time in middle school I was mostly into my cool gold border deck. I picked it at random...mostly because it said he won first lol. But as a 12 year old it's suffice to say I just didn't understand the deck and went on most my life never learning it. I returned to magic this year at 34 years old and started really learning. Once I got a few personal decks together I tried my wildfire deck in the mix. I was stunned when I found out how unfun that deck can be for the opponent. Even in current power levels...if it gets the right things out its just about game over. My first thought was I must be misinterpreting these cards. This would mean my opponent can't even play any magic? Oh...well I see why he won first I suppose.

I prefer slow drawn out games. If we're not going 2 or more hours I feel unsatisfied. I would never go to a tournament where EVERYONES goal is to make it impossible for me to play as much as possible. No fun that way. Can you even call yourself a better duelist when you didn't even give your opponent a chance to showcase their abilities? No that's just a massacre and those are never looked upon favorably.

@@SeviathTheHumanDrago I totally feel you. I'm more of a combo player and feel a bit devoided by watching players that go on for full minutes doing stuff alone and winning in 2-3 turns or "taxing"/suffocating you in any way. Where's the intelligence? In choosing which card put in the deck and the amount of money they are willing to pay? I felt sorry when I brought my mono-red deck to my old group of friends (where every card was less than 1€ with feeew exceptions): I love the "tap" stuff and my whole deck was based on "pingers" creatures, which were leading to blocking the friends to play. They heated it, and I too. After a few matches, I un-mounted that deck. I understand why land destruction is hated, especially in commander. Otherwise, I do love building up a board state (Elves, Angels, Goblins, Soldiers, defenders, charge-counter-based, Wizards, big-weird-stompy stuff, etc) and using that state to win, while allowing the opponent to play normally.
@SeviathTheHumanDrago
@SeviathTheHumanDrago Год назад
@@marcoottina654 That was my first adult experience with magic. Me and my gf were playing our manager at pizza hut at the time and he played Tron. Had some artifact that made it impossible to play non artifacts so every turn me and her just sat there and said go. He literally made us mill our entire decks before he let us play so we technically lost by card draw. I want a big brolic battle where we're throwing everything we have at each other to see who comes out on top. I currently run Izzet but I'm gathering cards to switch to a green, black, and blue, deck with Vraska the regal gorgon. I have God eternal Rhonas for the deck and Grunn The Lonely King picked out as my major win condition. Get grunn down first then build up his mass with Vraskas +1 counters. Slap Rhonas down when he reaches some ungodly number, double number and attack. I also have an every color hydras deck my gf never let's me use because of Progenitus. So I understand demoralizing your opponent until they don't want to play. Heck my main group of friends doesn't like playing me anymore because I'm too good and I let them use my decks.
@marcoottina654
@marcoottina654 Год назад
@@SeviathTheHumanDrago I don't get if you are ironic in the last part (about your group). Anyway demoralization is one of the worst thing that can happen in a *game*, where you are supposed to have *fun*. I felt how they were "fading to gray" when my army of red wizards was burning their boards. That's why I've never mounted the gruul "destroy literally everything" deck even if I had already bought the cards. I can accept that a part of the strategy could involve some "erosion" (removal, stealing, milling, counter, bouncing), but it just should be either a slight part of it (Deceiver of Will, a wizard that mind-control) or the finisher (Orzhov Angel deck where it builds up a flock of tokens/Angels and kills everything with FIrja's Retribution; or the elf/defender infinite mana combos). But by making it the core of the deck it kills more than creatures: the joy of playing.

@@marcoottina654 Not in the slightest. We used to all play around the table at lunch in high school. I move away for a few years and got more into the game than they knew me to ever be, cuz I didn't have any cards back then, picked up some new skills out in Arizona around the time commander came out. Moved back a couple years later and we've duels a few times but now when I ask they don't want to play, they just want to go get food and hangout or play video games. I totally agree but acknowledge it's a legitimate tactic. I take their victory away by conceding when I know what they're up to. For some reason they don't like it when you just give up, they want to actually like "Beat" you so rob them their victory and you win instead lol

Even though it's mass land destruction that's looked down on in EDH, I still feel slightly guilty even putting single-targeted land destruction in a deck. That being said, my main Explorer deck is a BO1 Red-Green Ponza deck with a splash of black for Tear Asunder's kicker cost. It's been pretty competitive and I enjoy looking across and seeing my opponent with an empty board or, at least, no lands.

Ah yes... I join you in the ranks of "that guy"... because resource denial was my favorite types of decks when I was still active: Hand Destruction cards, Mana disruption (my absolute favorite: Thermokarst, Ice Quake, Stone Rain, Pillage >:) I didn't have Ice Storm or Sinkhole), Control Mill(stone) etc. Land denial was the favorite of mine: the idea that a 2/2 or a 3/3 creature becomes an absolute threat because my opponent has no way of answering it despite having a full hand of outs makes my sadistic side smile >:) And Wildfire was one of my favorites: having cards like Covetous Dragon + Mana Rocks + other 5 toughness creatures made me smile >:) I remember splashing a few green and black creatures bec some of my Mana Rocks could add multiple mana (i.e the one in Invasion that costs 3 and adds 3 specific colors usually allied with a central color... i.e the Red central adds Black, Green and Red)... and if it wasnt enough, 2 copies of Crater Hellion that I can play as early as turn 3 - 4 makes a "board" a fleeting concept for my opponent XD I also attempted to use Jokulhaups and Obliterate on a Replenish deck XD basically, filling my grave with Enchantments, having 10 - 12 mana sources, play Jokulhaups / Obliterate, play Replenish, and win bec I have Fervor (R2, EN, all creatures have Haste) in my grave. Tried using Anger... but I forgot i'd be losing ALL my lands so... had to settle. It had mixed results, I have to admit

My first "competitive" deck was an Enchantress / Wildfire deck where you'd stack your Fertile Ground / Wild Growth on a land, cast some beefy creatures then cast Wildfire so that you'd still have your creatures and a land that produced a ton of mana while generally your opponent's board would be empty... I probably would have just combined them. 3) Yeah, I suppose that's fair, I guess I wouldn't compare Parallax Tide (plus a bounce spell) to Wildfire, even if blue ponza is best ponza. 4) Words of Wind is also mass bounce, at least in Enchantress, you just replay Wild Growth or Utopia Sprawl... a lot.

mass land destruction deck are for noobs, single land destruction deck is for super pros, think about it , you let them get 3 or more lands, as a land destruction deck you should be ashame, and be face slapped a few times. why in the world would you let them get 3 lands or more to even do a jokuhaups or wildfire. thats just insane in my land destruction deck. here is the key to my land destruction from other land desctruction is my deck has one mana destroy land, two mana destroy land, three mana destroy land, four mana destroy land, and lets not forget those lands thats destroys non basic lands like strip mine and wastelands, they are in there , and rest of the few cards are lighting bolts and fireballs, about 4 creatures , the 4 creatures also destroy lands when cast, anarchists i believe is the creature. i will tell you a few cards i put in there that are basics is stone rain and pillage, which is a three mana land destruction. but i bet you cant guess the one and two mana destroy lands muahhahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah cough cough muhahhahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahah
