When I was a Teenager, I used to see photos of Joe's work when the Internet was still up and coming. I always wanted to build a replica of the NYC Subway and of course, an EL of my own. Joe has done an absolutely awesome job modeling the ELs and Trolley's of NYC's yesteryear. The tedious work and the amount of detail Joe has completed is so cool and mind-boggling. This layout is all O-Scale 2-Rail; MTH Subways are used but include 2-Rail Trucks without any middle 3-Rail pickup rollers. The other Subways used (if not MTH) are from a personal hand-crafted kit that Joe built over the last few decades.
As we close the video, I paid tribute to my cameraman for the day, but, a great Friend and Motorman for the NYC Subway, Doug Diamond. Doug was a wonderful guy with a heart of gold who loved Life, Friends, Rapid Transit Trains and most of all, his job. Doug worked the Brighton/6 Av Express B Train for most of his career and was known system-wide. Besides the Subways, Doug and I shared the same interests with the RMS Queen Mary (SS POSEIDON from 'The Poseidon Adventure). Him and I would go quote for quote with Mr. Rogo and Mrs. Rosen; we had a blast talking Irwin Allen films. Since Doug was the one who invited me along to go to Joe's Layout on this particular day, it was the perfect way to say goodbye to my Buddy.
I hope everybody enjoys Joe's Layout and enjoy the photos of The Late-Great, Doug Diamond; RIP My Friend; We all miss you.
