Thrace is a historically rich region, located in southeast Europe, which includes the territory of Turkey in Europe, and borders Bulgaria in the south and Greece in the northeast. Containing 23.764 km2 of the surface area of Turkey Trace has a border to Black sea, Aegean Sea and to the sea of Marmara. Having first class agricultural lands, the region meets the wheat, rice, barley and sunflower needs of both our country and neighboring countries. In addition, animal husbandry activities are carried out in the region; such activities meet the big share of milk and meat needs of our country. Moreover, since Trace is an industrial zone with many factories, import and export of various raw materials and textiles are done in the region. The region, which has 3 border gates to Europe, is also a port area. To the north of the region there is Demirköy/İğneada with world-famous Longoz forests, to the south of the region there are Tekirdağ/Şarköy, Enes and İpsala which are all coastal cities and Edirne which is an old capital of Ottoman Empire. Also, import and export activities are carried out from the port of Tekirdağ. Finally, the Halkalı / Kapıkule high-speed train, which is currently under construction and will be operational in 2020, will provide access to all parts of our country and to other countries in the world.
