That was the beginning of the END of American Musclecar performance! 😣😑😭 Yeah, it really started in 68, and got worse starting in 71.... but 73 was when Engine Performance really began to plummet. Thanks for showing ALL the things that we used to RIP OUT of our used Cars in the early 80's!! 😱😜 I am thoroughly enjoying these videos!! I just wish someone did this for Ford and GM too. That would also be fascinating.
PCV system, fine. Evap control, fine, hardened exhaust valves/seats, fine, heated chokes, fine, electronic ignition, great, all of the early EGR systems, garbage, orifice spark control, garbage, AIR systems? 1 of the 1st things to remove. We did real word tests on these cars that saw a couple of yrs service with these combined systems, and found that they failed excessively, and actually ADDED to the tailpipe emissions, rather than cleaning them. And customer complaints about drivability were through the roof!
Adam Trombino they actually had a decent AIR system that didn't use an air pump - a nipple on the air cleaner, check valve, and a direct line to the cat. That was it. I had that on a '77 360-2 Fury (non-ESC), a '79 St Regis E58 squad, and an '82 Fury 225 (non EFC/ESC).
