been re-listening to Sparkle and Afterglow recently and damn, Art and the band were really at their artistic peak. The songwriting, arrangements, and musicianship is great.
Man, I found about Everclear in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide! It's a shame that the band is soo underrated. I remember the singer was Ned teacher and I really liked the song they played there, which the name was "Rockstar" and came to look for and then discovered he had a band. "Wow, the guy is a real rockstar"
It's kind of darkly funny how the first band that the literal former drummer of Nirvana thinks of when he thinks of bands that sound like Nirvana, as a good thing mind you, is in fact the first band many would say not only sounds nothing at all like Nirvana, but arguably jump-started the whole "sellout" phase of grunge and quite possibly the entire subgenre of post-grunge altogether, that in alt rock spheres metaphorically killed and then zombified that sound until at least 2008.
@@michaelmederos6680 You're really wrong, just search up Bush Woodstock 99. Nigel"s improv guitar is amazing on Everything Zen. The media just liked to pick on bands around that time because that was the start of post grunge so everything was a Nirvana copy even Pearl Jam got shit for it and they were apart of the grunge scene. Bush actually were fans of The Pixies like Nirvana and they were influenced by alot of the same bands so they are obviously going to have some similarities. Nirvana also ripped one of their biggest songs (Come As You Are) from the band Killing Joke. Ripping songs has been around since music existed and it always will exist. I think you should listen deeper into Bush's discography as they have some hidden jems like the tracks Bonedriven, and Alien. I personally think Bush did deserve their following heck they deserved a bigger following. ;)
Wasn't particularly into Everclear back then, but I do remember their lyrics were very poignant, over very poppy licks. Thinking back, I think I may have under estimated them.
@@spins321 that's because Everclear is fucking legendary and was way ahead of most other bands . Listening to it now , it's almost as if it was meant for this era. It's more relevant to me anyway , and still sounds fresh as hell. And everyone who doesn't like Everclear are all a buncha spoiled kids who had it all and both parents. That's why they don't like Everclear, they can't relate 🤷🏽♂️
