The President's Office says that plans have been made to commence train operations from Kankesanthurai from April next year.
Train operations from Omanthai to Kilinochchi commenced Saturday.
President Rajapaksa was the first to obtain a ticket from the Omanthai Railway Station and travelled to Kilinochchi by train with his entourage where he was warmly welcomed by the residents.
