14:49 "How about I go 'act' like I'm prepping for the Scare Games?" "How about you *fail* out of school completely? The midterm counts for sixty percent of your grade. Now sit down." I like that teacher.
That deleted opening would've been better because it shows not only how Mike and Sulley knew each other as kids but in the final they hated each other at first then became good friends later as here they hated each other since they were children
They could've even made it so they were friends in elementary school, and then they grow apart and meet back up in college and learn to become friends again throughout the story. I definitely wish they would've kept something similar in fr
It made sense in an earlier draft, but if it was added to the finished movie, then it doesn’t fit. The timeline goes from Mike & Sulley being childhood enemies, then they forgot each other during their preteen and teenage years, but then they reunited with themselves in college where they introduced each other, then they got expelled from college after an incident so they left college to work at a factory as mailman, then after they did a couple other promotions they finally became a scare duo at the factory, then they decided to become the CEO and CTO of the company they worked for after exposing their boss and returned a human child to her homeworld, and now they entertained human children instead of scaring them.
Haven't finished the video yet, but I wanted to comment on the Rivalry clip. I watched the first movie with my little brother today, and I remember going "Wait..." at the "since the fourth grade" line. Glad to know that they did plan to address it, even if it didn't make it in.
The movie night scene definitely inspired the final cut when Sully and Mike fueled scare energy to power the door from the human world at the abandoned cabin.
They actually should of kept "Rivalry" or found a way to incorporate it and the field trip scene into the film. Heck! I would even be fine if Sully was in Mike's class and was on the field trip with them all.
As much as I see their reason with the first scene. I disagree with it. If they had just gone with the scene it would've worked better, if they had Mike and Sulley not remember each other in University and slowly as the movie would progress up to the scene where they sneak into Monsters Incorporated, they would've remembered each other, and their hatred for one another. And that hatred would've slowly died at the end of the movie.
Maybe they'll make a sequel to Monsters Inc. dealing with that. We know the energy source switched to laughter so maybe the animators will consider that as a story line.
Even though it got cut, Recon would have made for a really good short. Honestly it's a shame it got abandoned completely, there was a lot of potential still left in it!
I wish the Rivarly scene was kept because the movie and story would be a little bit more enjoyable. It really would of worked the only changes I would do is that after the first scene it starts at the elementry and Sully would be the new student at that elementry and the rest would be the same and then after that scene later in the movie they met each other at the University they could of like reintroduce each other and they both say they should start over and forget everything in the past and then after that the movie should just be the same with no changes.
I'm glad that they cut all of these scenes out of the movie. They managed to recycle the important bits, and the movie really works better without them.
You know.. I whole heartedly agree with how they cut out most refrences to off hand things in the first movie. Ive seen plenty of small fan works and larger productions by inexperienced nerds and can see how having a scene that amounts to nothing but saying "see guys? Remember when they said that thing? Look at our funny reference!" But stops the story in its tracks and hurts the plot / message is actually a bad thing. Its really cringy, ameturish, and unfocused. Its the stories and characters that matter, not just lore and continuity. They did not want to have to write monsters elementary, they wanted monsters university. The refrence to the 4th grade line was in the way of that story. If your story does not have at least one "everytime you notice things like that, a wizard did it" moment, then you need to cut the fat. I wish more people could see the nuance of enjoying a short or a storybord as its own work of art, without endlessly moaning about how it should have been a series or real movie. Feel good that it happened in the form of this fully voice acted story board released to the public despite being cut. Even these sketches require a lot of work . and if you enjoyed the art as presented here right now, then the art has been apprecaited. It is good *now*. And that is enough.
I have some opinions about some scenes In the scene “rivalry”, I feel bad for Mike. But he did sort of start the fight. In the scene “movie night”, I like the way sully talked instead of yelled. I feel it showed more of emotional give up, and it made the scene more powerful. And the “drama class 1,2,3” just took too much attention away from the scare game
When they met in this film, Mike could’ve said something among the lines of "Do I remember you from 4th grade?". It would’ve been unnecessary, but so was the whole film.
