I love petboonchu! The ultimate cling on monster! Most hate his style but u cannot deny his talent and his style makes it almost impossible to beat on his good days!

Westerners don’t like clinch but I love it so much. The crowd also loves it. Listen to them:

It is one of the greatest richnesses of Muay Thai that there are so many sub-styles (punch-fighters, clinch-fighters, heavy-kick fighters, etc.). It is fascinating to see Petchboonchu trying to dart forward to lock his opponents in an anaconda-like grip, and them trying to avoid it through all means possible; but it can be said without a doubt that if Muay Thai was made exclusively of clinch fighters, it would become dull, slow and boring.

Amazing match. I am a fan of Pakorn, and it was a very very close match, but in my personal opinion Petch won, even if by very little, at least two of the three important rounds (3, 4 and 5). I think the judges preferred Petch because of his neat style, both in applying the techniques, and generally in terms of presence on the ring. Not to mention he is taller, whiter and not tattooed... these are also matters that count, in a match of this level, like it or not. :) Something for all the muay thai passionates that were surprised at the verdict: 1) don't think about points and scoring points in muay thai. I know the official rules talk about points, but that is a simplicifation: the judgement in muay thai is always holistic. Difficult to explain, but less difficult if you stop reasoning in terms of points and score. No score in muay thai, there is only the most strong, brave, beautiful, effective, respectful boxer on the ring. 2) Always look at the end of the fifth round. 9/10, the boxer that is still attacking knows that he is going to lose, and recognises it by attacking. The boxer that does not attack anymore, knows that he is going to win, and makes it explicit by defending, or trying to lose time. Is a strategical and psychological game, but it means a lot. If a boxer is probably winning till that moment, but he keeps attacking, he loses credibility, like if he is devaluating his own work, and the judges are going to take this into account if he will not make something important out of those last attacks. If both boxers are still attacking and fighting hard, or if both stop attacking, you understand that this is relevant too: by penalizing the one who was in advantage in the first case, and the one who was in disadvantage in the second case. Someone put this down in terms of 'understanding muay thai'. I think it is correct, but just 'understanding the match' is also correct. In this match here, look at who is attacking in the end of the fifth. :) Maybe he would have lost anyway, but I personally think it would have been better for him to stop when Petch stopped, and just tease him. I think that there would have been a chance that, in that case, the match would have ended by draw.

Like it or not - petboonchu got the better of the clinching. As soon as pakorn was dominating mid-long petboonchu closed and it won him the fight. How good is pakorn!!! He's an almost complete fighter. He looked like he developed that body hook just for this fight. He scored well with it a few times.

@ronsanai
@ronsanai 10 лет назад
Agree, judges at Lumpinee often give the advantage to the taller fighter. Pakorn was outclassing Petchboonchu but the knees and a few teeps were scored much higher than the take downs and boxing. I guess I kinda contradict myself a bit but you guys know.

He didn't win because in the clinch Pakorn didn't do anything more than the sweeps... petchboonchu was working a lot with the knees and the frontal knees that are highly scored... I still like more Pakorn style of fighting...

I will never understand Thai Judges, in my opinion Pakorn dominated, i felt like the clinch by Petch was all he could do to prevent Pakorn from continuing his onslaught of tactical dismemberment .. the last round Pakorn landed some amazing elbows and uppercuts, however either way .. this was a really good fight!!
@joaomenegalebarbi1586
@joaomenegalebarbi1586 7 лет назад
Well, I'll write here as I watch the fight, but I don't think that stating "the clinch by Petch was all he could do" is accurate. The clinch is what Petch does, is where he is remarkable. But let me get to Rounds. Talking only about the important ones. 3 - Petch dominated that round. Suffocated Pakorn, landed more knees, and stronger ones too. Pakorn was just trying to punch in the break or sweep when he just couldn't escape. 4 - Nice start for Pakorn. Keeping his distance and sweeping Petch at will, but a couple moments later Petch was again being able to clinch him at will and land the better knees. Other thing, most of Pakorn kicks were getting caught. He did nicely, though. Really complete fighter.. 5 - Nice stuff by Pakorn. He was countering those clinch entries with elbows and uppercuts. BUt, by that time, Petch wanted nothing to do with the fight anymore. Remember, the guy who is winning usually drops the last Round. Maybe if Pakorn came up with those elbows before he could have stopped Petch rythm. Overall, nice effort by Pakorn, did great, but I scored the third and fourth rounds to Petch.

Pakorn is a pretty underrated fighter but I can tell he won the day in this fight landed most his blows to Petchs guard but Petchs attacks were either slipped or countered mostly grazed maybe I watch to much boxing but I guess talking a punch with a tight guard scores less against you than slipping them

I wish i understood muay thai judging. I thought pakorn won that fight. I understand the clinch is really important in scoring but does it really nullify all the elbows and punches that pakorn through, not to mention the leg kicks and his ability to avoid most of what pet through at him "besides those nasty teeps to the face"
@vividgrafx
@vividgrafx 9 лет назад
ernesto vicencio Elbows, Punches and Leg kicks don't score as much unless they show physical damage. Knees scores very high second only to body kicks
@littlezam3963

Another facet that seems to count for more than expected is dominance. Pakorn was winded by the end, and he showed it. Petch barely looked tired by the end of each round, and it counts for a good bit.

There's always a few people that have no clue how the thai scoring works and what it means to dominate but bitch in the comments. Petch was more active in the clinch which scores a lot and neutralized pakorn boxing which is most of the time scores as a minor point unless the punch is really unbalancing or a takedown. Both great fighters, Petchboonchu won, full stop
