**********************************************
In Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice and Benedick are adamant in their mutual dislike, while Claudio and Hero are deep in love, and the two stories take an unexpected course. This production was captured by Digital Theatre live at London’s Wydham's Theatre and starred David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

David thinks he is a bad actor. He has anxiety that makes him strive to be better so people won't see how bad he is as an actor. He actually said that on a podcast called Off Camera. One of the greatest actors of this generation thinks that about himself. I don't know if it is humility or anxiety.

I remember watching an interview with him YEARS ago and he said something along the lines of "fear is an engine" that fire pushes him forward.

It is the capitalism-driven instinct to worry that one's hard work and toil are not good not enough

I think it’s both. It’s my personal belief that he channels that anxiety into the energy, drive and excitement to push him forward. ((:

Everything that I’ve seen and read about David Tennant convinces me that he is a genuinely humble and very decent human being as well as an incredibly gifted actor. Why is it always the good people that worry about not being good enough, while the rotten ones constantly praise themselves as the best?

I ADORE this monologue. The complete anger and annoyance at this change in Claudio REALLY comes through with David's performance. Brannagh sounded like he was having his assistant take notes for a grocery list.

I managed to find this play and watch the whole thing online somewhere (I think it's been taken down now, though) and it was SO GOOD. Catherine Tate and David Tennant were fantastic as Benedick and Beatrice, and David Tennant is just amazing in Shakespeare (another example: Hamlet, also featuring Patrick Stewart). And in anything, really...

It's back on RU-vid! I've been watching a few of these clips then saw someone kindly mentioned that the whole thing was back. OMG what a treat. Sorry no link handy but it just takes a search.

I have known when there was no music with him but the drum and the fife; and now had he rather hear the tabour and the pipe: I have known when he would have walked ten mile a-foot to see a good armour; and now will he lie ten nights awake, carving the fashion of a new doublet. He was wont to speak plain and to the purpose, like an honest man and a soldier; and now is he turned orthography; his words are a very fantastical banquet, just so many strange dishes. May I be so converted and see with these eyes? I cannot tell; I think not: I will not be sworn, but love may transform me to an oyster; but I’ll take my oath on it, till he have made an oyster of me, he shall never make me such a fool.
