Yeah I'm a little disappointing that he essentially had a recipe ( all the proteins, vitamins, and carbs yadda yadda, plus %15 alcohol.) but only really got the alcohol part right. Would adding vitamins, protein or what have you to make it more accurate be kind of disgusting? Sure but so was the implication in the show. Accuracy and flavor, doesn't seem like too much to ask does it?
The only thing about this i find confusing is: Greg singing the entirety of "The Hero of Canton" - with gusto - and following it up by saying "Firefly isn't my jam."
Jayne : Mmm. They call it Mudder's Milk. All the protein, vitamins and carbs of your grandma's best turkey dinner, plus fifteen percent alcohol. Wash : It's horrific! Simon : Worked for the Egyptians. Jayne : What's that? Simon : The ancient Egyptians, back on Earth-That-Was. It's not so different from the ancestral form of beer they fed to the slaves who built their pyramids. Liquid bread. Kept them from starving, and knocked them out at night, so they wouldn't be inclined to insurrection. Kaylee : Wow, Simon. That's so... so historical. Jayne : [to Simon] Tell me, Lil' Miss Big Words. You see a pyramid sittin' out there? Simon : ...No. Jayne : Neither do I. So here, let me pour you a big frosty mug of "shut-the-hell-up". LMAO This show maybe cancelled but at least we have Outer Worlds and Yes I made a Jayne character :P
"beer they fed to the slaves who built their pyramids. Liquid bread." that's not true though. People building pyramids weren't slaves - quite the contrary. And yeah, they were payed with beer which was a premium product back then, hard to obtain. I don't like this show already :(
@@Sk0lzky It takes place 500 years in the future far away from earth, of course a misconception that is common nowadays would be believed widely. Even if the writers genuinely didn't know, it makes good sense for them to not know history well.
Greg. The man they call Greg! He made all the drinks, and another round more! Stood up to the algorithms, and gave them what for, Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain, The Hero of RU-vid, the man they call Greg!
The RU-vid mobile app lets you double tap on either side of the video to skip backwards or forwards 10 seconds. It's pretty useful because you can tap a few times, skip the shit singing and the intro music, then get straight into the drink
They would have played the episode with the middle of the episode being at the beginning, and then cancelled the episode before he got to pour the drink....
Firefly epsiode and Greg talks about 40k space marines. What a nerd and that's why we love him :D On that note: maybe some 40k inspired drinks at some point?
For as miserable as the setting is, there's not really a lot of unique drinks. There's Imperial Amasec which is just whiskey, Orkish Fungus Wine, T'au Ky'husa which is just sake. None of those are cocktails. Necromunda's Wild Snake might be toxic since it contains snake venom and Second Best is literally fermented garbage. The Aeldari probably drink some kind of psychotopic wine, but I think Greg would get in trouble putting LSD into a Merlot.
@@AnchorJG I always thought amasec as cognac or brandy, but that's probably more due to my own drink preferences than anything in the lore. The Tanith Sacra might be an interesting drink!
@@AnchorJG The cocktail STCs have been lost since the Dark Age of Technology, and unauthorized mixing of ethanols will get you turned into a servitor by the Adeptus Mechanicus.
"I'm not a huge 'Firefly' fan." OK, goodbye.. Take my love, take ny land Take me where I cannot stand I don't care 'cause I'm free You can't take the sky from me...
Gotta keep in mind when relating to Jayne's behavior, he gets away with a lot because they aren't really on the up and up when they move around. Firing someone for being "unreasonable" in that manner is a good way to have your organization outed to the fuzz.
If Captain Reynolds fired Jayne for unreasonable behaviour then he would (at one time or another) have to fire everyone on that ship--including himself. And, that is why he won't get fired. Unless he betrays the crew. That may get him fired out into space.
*Pushes nerd glasses up nose* "Actually, Canton was the name of the town, not the system. It was the primary town on Higgin's Moon, which orbited Harvest, a planet that orbited the red sun in the system in which the series was set. All the moons and planets were in one system, not multiple systems."
Just checking- you’re not inferring that the entire Firefly verse is one system, are you? Being that it’s made up of five. White Sun (The Core), Red Sun and Georgia (The Boarder) and Kalidasa and Blue Sun (The Rim).
“I don’t want anything to do with outer space. You can keep it. I like the planet Earth! This is a great place. We’ve got it really great here. We’re working on that, though. We’re trying to make sure it sucks.” That pretty much sums that up!
I've been watching this series since its inception and have never actually made a drink featured here. With such a raving review I think this will be my first! Hope your channel continues to grow!
I didn't have any beer on hand, but the "bourbon milkshake" portion of this drink sounded amazing to me. To add a little more interest, I made it using a black coffee rye whiskey from a local distillery and it was so delicious!! I will definitely be trying this again when I have a porter (or stout?) to add to it
He has a weird history with dairy drinks. Makes a White Russian, super simple and delicious drink but it comes out horrible. Makes Mudder's Milk which is supposed to be horrible and makes the best drink yet.
....but the Doctor can't fire Jayne. The Doctor is a ride-along And Jayne is a wild-eyed gun-toting warrior of fortune who's just as likely to kill ya as look at ya. Also the Cap'n and him are buddies.
"Buddies" is stretching it a bit. Jayne is on the team because a sociopathic merc with decent fighting skills and no discernible moral qualms about _anything_ can be useful in Mal's line of work, and because he's too stupid for any doublecrossing attempts of his to be too threatening.
Some friends and I occasionally get together for an all day session of Firefly: The Board Game (with ALL the extra expansions and ships, it takes at least six hours to play) and when we do, I usually make my own take on Mudder's Milk. It's a blended drink made with bananas, peanut butter, greek yogurt, heavy cream, toasted oat granola, honey, and whatever brown liquor needs to be killed (usually we try for whiskey or bourbon, because space WESTERN, but often we end up using dark rum, because the group I usually play with are also the group I do pirate festivals with, so there's always abundant rum). Couldn't tell you exact amounts, since I always just eyeball the measurements, but blend them all up with some ice, and serve in the largest mugs available.
wtf? I found my firefly dvd collection last night, put it to the side to watch it again later...then this appears the next morning? The universe is telling me something....
Made as is a few times, then found subbing simple syrup for barrel aged maple syrup was more to my taste. It's very nearly a staple in my house now. Thanks.
Ahhhhh!!! I saw “Firefly” and my brain went “YES YES YES I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE” can you do something from Serenity also??? Since the movie comes after the series??
_"You_ _know_ _what_ _man,_ _eh,_ _these_ _aren't_ _my_ _rules_ _but_ _I_ _gotta_ _live_ _by'em._ _Oh_ _boy."_ I suspect you're sincere, and that's why your dejected look down into the mug in front of you is the best sales pitch for getting me to make it you could have gone with.
That's definitely intentional. "Mother's milk" is an older phrase for something that gives you everything you need. This is a milk looking drink that that contains all the nutrients and is drank by mudders, so it just made sense
This is early, but maybe a Jaws special in June (the 20Th is the anniversary). You could go the extra mile and wait 5 and 1/2 years until the 50th anniversary...
I love both, in Farscape the one I can think of off hand is when they were in the bar, second episode of Season 3. Crichton describes what he's drinking as "terrible, but once you get past the blue slime, pure aviation fuel". And it was served it just a margarita glass.
Is it just me, or does he say "this is the best thing I've made on this show" every episode. " I filled a high heel shoe with chocolate syrup and vodka and creme de menthe." *Takes sip* "this is the best thing...."
Screw all of the "OMG I looooved this show" comments Greg this is insanity. This cocktail, what is this? You just, you came up with this? You just invented it? This is absurd. It's incredible, I've never had anything like it. What blessed you to have the mind that created something so perfect?
Ironically, the most quoted line in my life is from this show. Do you understand what the chain of command is? It’s the chain I go and beat you with. Before you ask. It’s the military and it’s always meant as a joke.
That porter is from a company called Einstök. It's an Icelandic company that makes amazing beer! I have no idea how you managed to get a hold of it but props to you mate! You should also try their white ale with a slice of orange, you won't be disappointed.
Hey Greg, how long do you normally shake your drinks? Every time I make one of your recipes I never manage to get the same final volume so I may be under diluting? Thanks!
