I’ve been to a lot of beaches, in North America, Europe, Mexico, and Central America. I’ve been to Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and Mediterranean beaches. I’ve also been to a lot of river banks and lake shores. Yet I’ve never found a clay pipe, or a pipe stem or other piece of a clay pipe. Meanwhile, Nicola seems to find clay pipes just about every day, no matter where she goes. I think the pipes must know she truly loves them, so they give themselves up willingly to Nicola.

@13:08 -- That's an "8 coin” Mahjong tile. Mahjong or mah-jongg is a tile-based game that was developed during the Qing dynasty in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is commonly played by four players (wiki). I would consider that find a museum piece (19th century)

Mike Schwinn What I find interesting about this piece is that it was probably homemade in the 19th Century, brought-over by the Chinese settlers of this camp. Can’t get more authentic that that! It’s priceless :)

I mentioned to Nic that I can’t imagine the park service would be all upset if someone removed broken pieces of glass and other items they would describe as trash. I absolutely believe in taking nothing “natural” and/or living. I also agree if you do happen to come across something that could be of historical importance you should report it. All according to size, location and what it is there might be times you “should” remove it and take to appropriate authority. Just a thought.

Hi Nicola, I loved the video! Hudson Bay company imported many clay pipes as trade goods for the native americans on the Columbia River. I have only one pipe stem marked McDougal Glasgow. I sit here i the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario Canada and watch you pan around the waterline and beach and scream "What was that?" "Go Back and look at that thing." My eye sees all the man made things and wants to investigate it. What is it, how did it get there and what's its story. I would be an anchor to you wanting to look at every little thing. I have never been to San Francisco or London England but I find it irresistible to look at the history or just stories that are in the mud along the water. Thank You!

There is a town called Chinese Camp on the way to Yosemite National Park as well. It was a mining camp around the time of the Gold Rush if I am not mistaken. Not much left now except a sign. If you ever come back this way, let me know if you want to see the gold rush area. I'll show you around or give you the info and you can go see it all on your own.

Nicola, the thing i like about watching your videos is you are a true romantic... A rare thing these days. You find excitement in the smallest discovery. Where others would not even notice something, you find a history and a story...And give off a Genuine Enthusiasm!! You should be a history professor....

It would be really cool to do a stained glass project with the glass pieces with embossing on it. It would be gorgeous to have random colors and the light shining through it.

Hey Nicola, just wanted to say how beautiful your videography was of all the wildlife, I am sitting in the Australian Bush, lots of old gold rush mining camps where I live you would find some great treasures there for your enjoyment and Art. But I grew up and lived until 3 years ago by a Bay in Melbourne and I didn’t realise how much I missed the beautiful soundscape of the water lapping the pier I would sit under across the road from my house, it was always a working class Naval ship building community, also they did have a Convict hulk that was moored off the bay as originally it was going to be the first white settlement of Melbourne but the River was saltwater so they moved it to the Yarra river for fresh water. Even though I am already relaxed hanging out on a hot day with my old dog. Those shore sounds were music to my soul I think this is my first comment, I am a bit long winded (family trait). I also loved the black screen with just the sea lion snoring, Soundscapes are underrated. I used a soundscape for an Art school piece in my 30’s, it was a lot harder to climb under the pier then and there was a ladder then thank goodness I reckon I would have gone for a splash otherwise. I also lived in London in my late 30’s for a couple of years, I worked in Camden, So many things I loved about London, but it was just a bit too busy and to much human noise for me. But I still have loads of friend’s there, whom I do worry about right now. Sorry for the rambling but the sounds brought up a mid 50’s reminiscing session in my brain. Stay safe and well hope the same for all your loved one’s. Cheers.
