My Grandma was head of the Dorset lacemakers guild in her early retirement years - she taught hundreds of children lace - but before you were allowed to move onto making more intricate lace you were taught to make Dorset buttons! I am quite quick at making them still!!

I recently went to the Dorset button cottage where the lady has the kits and all the buttons you can imagine. It’s tiny but a lovely little place to look around.

We live in a town in Dorset that was the heart of the industry.

I Live in Lyme and many a dry day and tide out you will find me on the same spot. Better in winter as not so crowded as most people are after fossils but I prefer the old Vic dump. That cast iron knob is probably from metal beds as there are many bits of them lying around. Enjoyed the video.

Thank you. Winter is our preference too. Its way too busy in summer.

I think the brooch you found was an airedale terrier. Which is a breed of dog from my area. Which has the river aire running through it ,hence the name . Baildon west yorkshire.

That perfect round stone looks like a cabochon from a piece of jewelry. Agates were popular in jewelry during the Victorian era. Nice find! The square lead seal with the lines looks like a post office bag seal. Kit and Caboodlers find a lot of them.

Yes we really could do with a bit of rain. Very dry. So dry I’m sneezing dust clouds in our spots haha. Love that little dog pin broach. Ohhh a wonky bottle with fans to boot haha. That’s so nice. when they approach you like that 👍 pocket watch winder is very nice. I’m itching to get to the beach now. Not been for a while. Never found a seal myself. Strange when that happens. Never seem to find them. Then they all come at once. Hope the weather wasn’t too warm, more ☀️ to come apparently.

This was last month so the weather was ideal. We are out mudlarking on Friday though so that'll be a hot one.

As a young girl in Summer Bible School we made wheel buttons, Thank you for the history because I never knew where or why they were made, it was just a fun craft to make. I had no clue it had a name or the purpose. Finding out it is a real thing for a real purpose I was excited to learn what it really was. The Dorset Crosswheel button was great to learn about. Thank you for taking me on the treasure hunt

I saw something else round at 9:34 to the left of your pinky right by the rock, another coin? I hope you kept the perfectly round stone it could be used in a ring or pendant. The fool's gold piece I also hope you kept to possibly use for making jewelry. No, that was such a beautiful piece of pottery with the flower print at 18:06.

Great batch of little finds. Boy that clay looks hard work, bring on the rain. I haven't been to Lyme since April and doubt I'll make it there for a while now, too many tourists this time of year. Gonna have to find a new dig site.
