Mugwort has been known for a very long time by our fathers and grandfathers, at that time it was called the tobacco of the sailor who smoked the pipe with it. Mugwort is better than tinder for starting a fire. Compliments for this video.👍👍👍

As i was making mugwort tea for the first time about 3 weeks ago i noticed how it clung together by its fibers kinda like burdock and stinging nettle and wondered if this might work 😆 Love your videos, keep em coming .

Hey, fantastic research! Mugwort works great for a hand drill spindle, too :) At least the mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) here in Europe, which appears to have a rather distinct leaf form, honestly looking quite different from the leafs you showed in this video... However, i will give it a try!
@maxwe789
@maxwe789 4 месяца назад
I believe the mugwort shown here is Artemisia Douglasiana. The young leaf is round and the older leaf has the lobes.

@@maxwe789 aah that makes sense! Unfortunately that one does not seem to grow in Europe...

@@schnipsikabel I think they are related and both used as tinders so worth a go. I'm Europe too and will try one if I come across one.

I grew up in southern Oregon. That looks like the Rogue River. I live near Astoria now. It's mostly basalt here. The Nehalem brings quartz from inland though.

have you tried mixing the pounded leaf with wood ash? that might be slightly cheating, but handy if the fire has gone out and you have ash on hand.

Thanks for remembering those videos. I’m trying to remember now… I think I took em down because I wanted to re-release them with a new title after we had more subscribers and RU-vid would actually suggest em to people. It was one of our early videos when YT would barely suggest our content to anyone so I think my intent was to try again later. Maybe this Spring when the leaves come back. FYI Elderberry was the plant we got juice from in those videos which counteracts stings, bites, and rash.

Try dry mustard if you have any around you. We also have a lot invasive scotch broom here and it seems to be close to creasode, I am going to get some oil from it as an experiment.

I came across a large dead scotch broom plant, so I harvested a section of its trunk. The wood seems to be quite hard so I processed about 1/2 dozen or so handholds for firedrill sets that I have made. It works very well. I need to find another large plant, as I think it would make a beautiful handle for a ferrorod or a primitive knife handle.
