My first Ali upload in over 5 years! Enjoy it people. A documentary excerpt profiling Muhammad Ali's life after his 2nd 1978 fight with Leon Spinks, in which he won the heavyweight title for the 3rd time.
muhammad ali's condition was always interesting to me because it's not like he had memory loss or behavioral problems like a lot of other boxers with CTE. He just gradually lost his speech and control of his movement. But it always felt like deep down he was still ali. You see guys like jerry quarry who were just destroyed by dementia so much that they're not the same person anymore, but ali was different.
One of the best professional athletes... The Number One Skilled Boxer of all times !!! ...A great man ! The whole world should need more figures as Ali ... today !!!
I met him in 1980. I could detect something wasn't right . He actually fought after that. His people around him should've stepped in. To many yes men feeding his ego and trying get a few extra million for another fight.
A lot of people told him to quit. If Ali needed yes yonemen to massage his ego.....well...how insecure and imperfect his that. As Ali said, if this thing can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. His choice to fight on.
@@jrupp8853 There a few instances of slow/slurry speech in the documentary "When We Were Kings", and that was '74. It's subtle but unmistakable. I suspect Parkinson's had probably been slowly creeping in since the early '70's. It suits those that profited from keeping Ali in the ring to insist he only became ill much later. Ali may well have kept fighting to convince himself nothing was wrong. Angelo Dundee noticed Ali had problems clearing his throat while training for Foreman and couldn't speak clearly while lying down on his back. A possible sign of early muscle fatigue.
@@del7538 1976 was definitely when I first noticed Ali slurring his words during interviews. You maybe right though about it going all the way back to 73.
00:36 , It’s my country Bangladesh 🇧🇩 right after _War_ . The government & the people were so happy to have him. The government allocated some lands in the longest unbroken Sandy Beach called Cox’s Bazaar as a gift to the champ. It is still preserved in 2021. #AliTheGretest 🥊
Enjoyment and enthusiasm characterised Ali all his life. In the ' Champions Forever' dinner, also somewhere on youtube, you see him quite unselfconsciously tucking into his food with relish. In his heyday he'd tell his stories, jokes and recite his poems almost for his own pleasure. This, together with the felling of boundless self-confidence he exuded, is what I think people found so captivating.
maybe in the early 70 ali already knew he got parkinson, and he knew it can't be cured.so he continue his boxing career until he can't fight.he got the money and the popularity for the rest of his life
I have seen what you so call brothers of Islam refuse to give an orange for being a penny short so dont give us that crap. a brother is only your brother most of the time and no one else. when it comes to survival you on your own.
allah never died for my sins but jesus did take a look at the savagery of islam and the peace of the gospel and tell me there is unity in islam man you cant even agree among yourselfs deluded leslie
roscoegino What? You don't know anything about boxing. One of the best in cutting the ring, One of the the 2,3 best Jabs ever and most powerful jab ever with Sonny Liston ....He won back the title in 1994 at 46 with a Young and prime Moorer. You cannot achieve this just with power....
+Marco Zucconi Foreman would of most likely lost against Larry, Foreman had trouble with jab and move fighters, that's the reason why he lost to Ali and Young who completely out boxed Foreman. Be a good fight but Holmes would of gave Foreman problems.
@@therealkingtytrill2661 Larry Holmes was very underrated, Holmes was/is definitely in the top 10 all time greatest Heavyweights! He would've gone the distance with Ali if both fought in their prime! Which makes it an even bigger crime to have allowed an obviously damaged Ali to fight Holmes, who, which is even more disgusting, was in his prime!
Holmes was Don Kings puppet. He done that to get Ali out of retirement. The only winner that night was Don King. The fight brung in close to 7 million. Ali got 250k.holmes 100k. Where did the rest go. Oooohhh that's right
Perhaps so because even his daughter Hana implies the same. She said it seems all those who opposed the establishment end up being silence one way or another.
Have you watched the interview of Muhammad Ali and barbara Walters? She threw the same accusation about the babies born before he married Veronica. Muhammad Ali replied by saying that no, he married her first. Pointed upwards he stressed, not by the so called white man's law of the state but by Allah's law. you know what that means? He practiced polygamy. being a muslim man capable of supporting more than one woman financially, emotionally and sexually, he is allowed to do this. Western culture reject this but in the Islamic community it is a norm. Though not many practiced it, you do find men with multiple wives. As long as the sharia is concerned Muhammad Ali didn't commit any sin in the matter. As he said it, get used to him, he's a muslim.
You are wrong again. Muhammad Ali could be anything he wanted, Angelo Dundee once said. In fact he was offered a professorship in the Oxford University, also being called to talk in various high learning institutions throughout the country. He could sing well, just listen to his song of "Stand by me". He also acted in movies with Anthony Quinn and once as a black senator in a black community during the struggle of the black movement. But his love was always in the boxing game, he was a master in it and he used it to his full capacity. Yes it was a sad ending he had to endure the consequences but he lived, in fact up until 74 years of age. Joe Frazier on the other hand while championing himself for not being as bad and predicting he would outlive Muhammad Ali died 5 years earlier than him.People get sick and all of us will die sooner or later. It's life.
Well as far as who lived best again I think you got it inaccurate when it comes to Muhammad Ali. We know what he did during those silent years. He was appointed a peace missionary by the UN. He secured the release of 15 American about to be made human shields by the Iraqi government. He went to Africa handing hundred of millions of meals to the starving nation. He went to Afghanistan and Indonesia to deliver food and medical supplies. There were so many stories about his generosity that as you google about charity people you'd find his contributions to many parts of the world, to so many people, all walks of life.Towards the end of his life he preached his faith to the people he met everywhere though without his eloquent tongue, he did it by spreading pamphlets he autographed. That I call the man of whom lived the best among all the others. Don't you think?
Ali loved to entertain if the fight didn't happen Ali would've fell into a depression, sad that he got sick but these things happen, he's an amazing man an its crazy that he's still alive today, really sad that he's barely worth a million now though
The handlers of Ali pilfered him for every dollar they could get at the end. Ali was a willing yuppie. in comparison, look at the handling of say Hagler, who got out of the game at the right time, having enough money and business-sense to save and think about life after boxing. Shame that a great had to go out like he did! Dundee called him 'in the best shape of his life'... really! If he says he's tired, and he's getting worn out, why they waited so long to stop the fight. And the snake is ALWAYS around to hiss in the ear of the weak. Damn you, Don King!!!
Ellis Dundee is one of the greatest trainers of all time- he actually saved Ali by being the ONLY one who wanted to.. and did stop the fight with Holmes.. and.. Ali wanted to fight- he is a true warrior - no you nor I or anyone else could tell him what to or not do.. we all want heroes in our lives.. I guess Ali was yours- well you chose a warrior as your hero- and just like a true warrior he would have been happy to die on his sword. As a human being he would've wanted you to be your own hero and be the best you can be and not give your opinions on when he should of or shouldn't of kept fighting.. the only person you can tell what to or not do is yourself- if you want to tell your heroes what they should or should not do- then you should be your own hero
Holmes was an envy stricken snake. anybody telling me that it wasn't obvious this man had something wrong is a liar or a fool. and Holmes is a bit of both. Ali is the greatest of all time.
+Muhammad Ali Don't Blame Holmes. He did what he had to do. Ali flunked 3 Neurological Tests and Dundee and King KNEW he had Parkinson's Syndrome and the got the last bit of gas out of that old car. They KNEW he was sick and couldn't beat Holmes. He barely got past Spinks 2 years EARLIER. How the Hell was he going to beat Holmes 2 years LATER. This is the sickest thing King ever did for money. The sickest!
He did it for his people. As he said it in one of the talk show. "you think I did it for myself? No! I did it for the black youth in my place who died in pubs and drug and the girls selling their bodies to the white men on the street." And he went on giving the numbers of the black American death in the prior night before he came, 37 he would say.
+Man of Steel He didn't do it for money, he did it for his ego. watch the movie I Am Ali!! He wanted to be 4 time champ. He thought it would be BANANAS to hold that title. They tried to convince him not to but he himself convinced others he could.
It was Ali's fault for not knowing when to retire. Ali was the best heavyweight ever in his prime, but he didn't know when to quit. It was obvious even 5 years before the Holmes fight, that his foot speed and reflexes were rapidly fading. Any top 10 guy would have beaten him by 1980.
Holmes had respect for him. who wouldnt fight ali... no matter how old. he cried after fighting him. get your facts straight. no he wouldnt beat him in his prime.fact
Ali was physically drained, to make weight he took some extreme measures, hence his performance in the Larry Holmes fight, as every one in the know, Knows, making that kind of weight leaves you without strength and stamina, leaving one as a target punchbag for his opponent If that fight had taken place 6 weeks later we would have seen a totally different Ali and fight, Imagine if a drained out Ali could last 10 rounds, what a nourished and replenished Ali would have done
I hate it everytime this dude Angelo saying things, "I know Larry, he's Ali's sparring partner". So what, Ali ain't gonna win against him, Ali had parkinson already. Angelo and the rest of the ringside should be arrested for letting Ali fight again, or at least banned from boxing. By the way, he's dead already
I wonder if this fight never happened Ali wouldnt had suffered as much in the later years. Angelo Dundee didnt know what he was talking about.Ali couldn’t punch the speed bag right and he says Ali is in the best shape of his life. As much respect I have for Angelo Dundee he was completely wrong.
I respect the man one hell of a lot. Yeah? Why did you whoop me then? I had to whoop you because it was you and me out there. Ali always being Ali. What a great man he was. The fight was a disgrace to boxing and Ali should had never fought but it was a money thing. They got paid $8 mill I think and Ali said even a man dying in Hospital will fight Holmes for $8 mill let alone me. Ali always did what he wanted to do. Miss you champ. The World and Boxing is just not the same without you. Bless you
I love Ali, but here you can tell Ali was not the same here and the motivation was money and the adulation......I don't blame Holmes, he was young he did not know better......I blame Ali himself, he was older and supposedly wiser...
Larry Holms is a "Nouveau riche" Not like Ali Foreman,Frazier and Mike Tyson who became world champ at very young age. Larry Holm's Dreams and Wishes are Ali's very old Memories
Muhammad Ali is my hero. Muhammad Ali should have retired after his Thrill in Manila forty seven years ago against Joe Frazier. Muhammad Ali was so wealthy but he wanted too much especially coming back to fight Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick. Champ you are my hero 42-16
