I LOVE the combination of Chinese instruments with orchestral instruments like the violin. Lea Solanga's beautiful voice with these ensures I will ALWAYS get chills listening to this. Definitely one of the best scores in any Disney movie.
well, no. not entirely anyway. shes a bit of both, in my eyes. mulan was never meant to be a fully feminine princess, no, but we see in the part of the movie where she's in disguise that she flounders in a fully masculine warrior role as well. it's not until the end of the movie, when she embraces both her masculine and feminine sides that she's truly in her element, when she is fighting the hun on the rooftop, and uses the fan, a symbol of her femininity, to disarm her opponent and fight using his sword, a symbol of her masculinity. she's not just a princess, but she's not just a warrior either. she's both, and that's okay.
Actually in the original legend she didn't get found out she was a girl until the war was over and she just stayed home to take care of her father rather than become a princess.

I was the same way in high school. I graduated in 2010. Never studied for a single test. Spent my time dreaming, and Disney music was one of the many inspirations that have led me to today.
I personally like Mulan more than the other Disney Princesses bc she’s so easy to relate to and even through hardship she shows hope, determination and relies on her own strength but knows when to allow help from others.
I wholeheartedly agree...for the most part the only ones who are real princess' are Jasmine and Ariel everyone else just lucked up...unless I'm missing something

Whenever I first heard this song in the movie I cried, I never related more with a Disney character before at the time I didn't know why I related so much. But now as a trans woman its very clear why I love this song and hold it dear as one of my favorite songs from Mulan.
I swear this was the awakening point for most trans women at a young age cuz the way this resonated w me unlike anything ever did before when I was like 5 💀
She's just one of the princesses so they can make more money out of her, they even changed the criteria because she was so beloved and famous, they smelled the money

Me too, mainly to this song! Since I was a child, I liked it! However, I couldn't understand the lyrics. Nowadays, I'm listening again and I feel emocional because I identified to Mulan! Sometimes, I'd like be myself! I have no clue! I feel weird compared the people which I met. Now, I also related to my autism.

My reflection is someone I don't know.... it has been a hard struggle for me to love myself for who I am...... I've had a a troubled past and I am a big man, I'm hoping one of these days I will love my reflection and get a better outlook on life and my body.....

The song "Reflection" was meant to be much longer, but the filmmakers wanted to save time in the movie. In the deleted version, Mulan not only takes off her bun, makeup, and jewelry, she also takes off her sashes. Also, the deleted version shows Mulan riding Khan through mountains and paddy fields.
Agree. I feel like Mulan should take the spotlight. All because Frozen has a princess, little girls love it so much, but Mulan is a different kind of princess that every little girl should know about. Because honestly, Mulan is the best “princess” I’ve seen. She is different and unique.

By whom ? I've never seen or heard anyone from Disney call Mulan a Disney Princess . Only by other people who think every female protagonist eventually becomes a Princess .
Mulan is the first Disney Warrior Princess and far outshines all Disney Princesses who came before and after in my opinion. She fought to save her father and her country.
This song reminds me of Tris Prior. She wasn't selfless so if she was to be who she really was and choose Dauntless, she'd break her family's hearts by leaving them. She dressed and acted like the Dauntless, but her reflection didnt show who she really was- Divergent. No matter how hard she tried, she couldnt forget the part of her that was Abnegation. No matter which side of her shw embraced, SOMEONE would be upset with her. I love this song even more now.
