She didn’t join the army for her own gain, she did it because she loved her father. She Knew he would go fight no matter what condition he was in. What she does is an act of selflessness, adaptability, courage. And that’s exactly where the live action version goes wrong.
@@hotwax9376 True, but that was a bonus, its shown that her father was certainly going to die if he goes to war, so she takes his place, perhaps she hoped to do her part and protect her family and country, but her main goal was to protect her father out of love.
Mulan is without a doubt one of the strongest Disney princesses if not the strongest. Took a stand against cultural norms not even for herself but for her father. Risking death by huns and by her own government if found out. If there is a Disney princess that symbolizes strength it is definately Mulan.
I know it's not much of an edit, but it helped me as well for my exams at the time I made it.. so I thought people would also enjoy and use it the same way I did. I am glad to hear that it actually still does and helped you in your case :)
thats because shes not really a princess, shes a warrior who saved china when all she really wanted was to save her father. the new mulan movie had the potential to do great things with a remake, to include things from chinese culture. but because it was too focused on nostalgia, it was just a massive disappointment for everyone. a true lost opportunity.
@@RockNRollFan2413 Ironic how the best princesses are Mulan and Pocahontas (at least the most heroic ones) when they aren’t actuall princess es to begin with
I always loved the synth part of this. It evokes images of bravery, courage, and self-sacrifice, all of which I strive for and this scene in the film represents.
@@otakutoongamer5616 She literally spent the whole movie running away from the problem. The solution then apparently came to her. Oh what an “empowering” message for kids. 🙄
No mushu I can forgive, no "I'll make a man out of you" too, no cricket, no Li Shang, but this... THIS is where I draw the line, no haircut with the sword.
Keep the montage by slowly putting on the armor while bathed in the pale moonlight, but remove the actual haircut in favor of retying it into a men's knot to stay faithful to actual Chinese culture. This piece was among the best parts. As was the Hunnic horde charging down the mountain.
There are things like this song that make the animation better than the live-action. They didn't add Mushu, the grandma, or the lucky cricket, all contributing factors to what makes it a great film.
Disney live action reboots are a terrible idea in general. Coke pulled this same stunt back in the 80s when they tried to introduce a new formula that tasted more like a diet cola. While numerous taste tests showed it beating both Pepsi and the old Coke formula, consumers revolted at the idea of trying to "improve" something that was already as close to perfection as you got. Disney is doing the same thing now, trying to repackage their animated films as live action for a more "mature" audience. Sure, they make money, but they compromise the integrity of the original animated classics. The moral of the story is, don't try to fix something that isn't broken.
@@hotwax9376 But you said it yourself. They make money. That's all the corporate twats at Disney care about. Don't think for a moment that they're one bit concerned over the integrity of the originals
@@ottokylanlahti8930 Agreed, and that was my point. Coca Cola realized their mistake and brought back the old Coke formula as "Coca Cola Classic." Disney, on the other hand, couldn't care less about whether or not remaking or rebooting these films is a good idea, as long as it makes big bucks for them.
@@hotwax9376 Well then again, people keep going to watch them and giving their money away to Disney, so from their pov it must be a great idea. Funny how so many people dislike the reboots but yet they still end up making billions
@@ottokylanlahti8930 Yes, from their poihnt of view they ARE a great idea. But just because something is a good idea from a financial standpoint doesn't mean it's a good idea philosophically.
When she sat under the stone dragon and looked at herself in the puddle, this was not the stone dragon coming to life in his physical form, this was the stone dragon awakening in her heart that went out to retrieve not just herself but her family as well. Oh and China.
@@ametist4604 exactly, in the original version, she has to FIGHT for her position....in no way was she perfect, she struggled so much. that was the point of her character, preserve despite the odds.
Mulan and Jasmine are the only Disney princesses I have dolls of. I know Mulan isn't technically a princess, but to me she will always be Disneys' version of Xena Warrior Princess. ^_^ Merida is pretty kick ass too.
There’s just something in this soundtrack that just tugs at the feelings and makes you think very deeply. It’s like a song that inspires change, And it’s very beautiful. That’s why I honestly listen to this when I’m having a Moment or just thinking. In a way it’s like cognitive thinking music but more epic!
Love the part at 1:07... That's when the shit goes down. Love it, love it so much! Sometimes when I need encouragement I listen to this song and that part gets me fired up and makes me feel like nothing's going to stop me.
No need to say that since my childhood I always wanted a much longer version than the movie one. After ten years or so I found it, so thank you for fullfilling my dream.
For many years, I’ve been trying to find songs as epic as this track to look for some variety, but sadly that has not come to fruition as the songs I’ve heard have not given me the same feelings this song has.
Try listening to Two Steps from hell's songs. It's epic music, like this one. If you're interested, I recommand you Immortal, Achangel, To glory, Victory, Protector of the earth, Children of the sun, Starvation, One million voices, Moving Mountains and Black Blade. And there are many other songs as good as those.
They're making one?! Literally the only Disney live action adaptation that I'd go to the theater to see!.......... That is unless they fill the movie with handfisted feminism. I could completely see that happening. The movie isn't just about her proving she can be strong like a man because that's not what she cares about. She's doing this selflessly to protect her father. Oh God Disney, please just focus on making a good movie.
Brad Neece Yeah I don’t have high hopes for the live action but I am hoping that it’ll at least be decent. Mulan is one of my favorites Disney movies and I will be so sad if they messed it up
@@Toseuteuu my #1 Disney movie is treasure planet. I really want to see that adapted to live action. But other than that... I'm not too excited about these new rehashes. Hopefully Mulan is good though
Producers for the live action movie: “Eh, it’s an adaptation, things has to be changed, and people know that! So let’s just cut the most iconic scene and replace it with... ahh wth, just cut it and nothing else needed!” If Disney ever do a live action of Sword in the Stone, I hope they just cut the scene where Arthur pulls the sword, that scene didn’t make any sense whatsoever!
Her father was not in condition for battle, with a baton and difficulty to walk yet ready to defend the family and country, Mulan saw that in her father and for love and fear of losing him she broke the rules and impersonate his father and joined the army where women were forbidden of joining. All for the love of the family and fear of losing her father.
Mulan didn't cut her hair in the live action adaptation, 0/10 No seriously, the short hair scene was very powerful and adds dramatic feeling when she left her house.. The live action doesn't seems to understand that..
@@CirillaofRivia Yep.. they changed a lot of things including the soundtrack.. Only watch it (pirate it) if you're curious but don't expect it to be good..
@@sleeplesstortoise What, how, how dared they changed the soundtrack? They did keep it for Lion King... (even if it wasn't the best choice for a "realistic talking/singing" lion movie lmao)
Here's why, Jason Reed, a producer on the 2020 Mulan, told SlashFilm that the scene where Mulan cuts her hair in the original film alienated Chinese audiences because of its historical inaccuracy. Letting her hair stay long this time, he says, is a chance to keep Mulan truer to the original source material.
@@mirokuaec Hmm.. I mean it would make sense. I don't know much about Chinese history and customs, but I do know Mulan was a real person, so maybe they indeed followed the real historical one instead of the animated movie?
@@rebelliouslegacy yea and the movie was shit even China thought it was hot garbage did you not see the Chinese people in.china reviews they hated it and they said it was nothing like chinese culture. So go read that and another thing I can give my opinion so shut up. Oh yea the witch and that awful Phoenix kite bird was suppose to be about chinese culture lol yea right.
@@rebelliouslegacy its really quite simple. A LOT more people watched the cartoon than the actual story and so they were expecting a live action version of the cartoon. People get annoyed because they changed the movie and made it completely different than the original cartoon, no Mushu, different characters, etc
@@rebelliouslegacy obviously lots of people because there was a LOT of complaining from the public, and the movie was a total flop, didn’t even make half of what it cost to make. Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean no one else does. Most of the world did not like it
@@rebelliouslegacy lmao the actual story was done better by the Chinese, the live adaptation one was shit and nowhere near close. and really, " who cares " ? you do, that's why you commented with your burned ass rather than your small brain.
Mulan is without a doubt the most brave woman ever she's ready to risk her life for her father what a proove of love and courage im so proud to be a human being for watching Mulan again and again im obssesd
It’s wasn’t that there was no Mushu, and that it wasn’t Kelly Hu who played the witch that made not wanna watch the live action, it was that they skipped this scene.
It's one of those moments that goes on forever, when she cuts her hair off. It is one of those moments when her whole future is being set to change and start something that is bigger than herself that she was truly called to do. And that despite all the loneliness, energy and fatigue that she has struggles to achieve. And she gets it, even beyond her dream
Thanks so much for this! It's what stood out to me as the best part of the animated movie. I understand why they cut it in the live action, though I personally prefer it as i see it as her "point of no return" point when the decision had been made. But surely they could have kept the music and everything else as it was just as impactful, perhaps replacing the hair cutting with her suiting up in her dads armor/looking at the sword/leaving the comb by her fathers bed. So many different things they could have altered to be more respectful but maintain the gravity of the scene. I feel this movie mainly failed because they didn't honor the feel of the animated movie. It didn't have to be the same in story if it at least illicited the same emotional weight. Sadly, it was lackluster at best, boring and pretentious at worse.
I LOVE this extended version! I love to use it for writing papers especially, it's great to zone out to. Slow and calm opening helps me get into writing and right around the time the beat picks up I'm clattering away at the keys! I really appreciate you taking the time to create this. Have a lovely day!
My favorite extended version of Mulan I love this version I listen to this when I'm doing house work or relaxing reading a book or doing art work I just love it keep up this good work.
