Gardening brings me so much joy! I think we may have that in common. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am always so happy to learn from passionate gardeners like you. I make garden videos too. I’d love to learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our channels!
You talked me right out of buying black mulch and instead choosing to go with a regular grind soil aid bark. It looks beautiful, natural, and the added benefit of feeding my garden soil is something I’m more than happy about!! Thanks for sharing so much good info in a short, to-the-point video. Very helpful!!
Think it is crazy how those lawn companies ALWAYS do mulch volcanoes around trees! You would think that they would know better! I used to put mulch right up to the trunk until I saw on Victory Garden not to. My roots were starting to grow around strangling it. It has since corrected when I stopped mulching and use a ground cover planting now. Agree to using only wood chips without color.
I wonder, do you have “Chip Drop” where you are? Arborists don’t want to take the wood chips to a dump because they have to pay per load, so they’d much rather dump it in your driveway. Many cities have it; you just go on their website and sign up for a drop. Here in Seattle it’s mostly Douglas fir with lots of green in it, which helps it compost as well. There’s no charge but we do like to tip the drivers. Maybe because of our long rainy winters, mulch really does seem to evaporate, so I have to add it every couple of years. But the difference it makes to the soil in even a year is amazing. And really we’re growing soil, get that right and it just gets easier and easier. (We don’t have dry wood termites here so any termites that might be in it won’t get into your home.) The colored mulches really are kind of awful, just so artificial looking. That’s a matter of taste of course. But still, they’re horrid. :-)
Love the edging & mulching video. However I have 1 question. Where does you tire of your mower run? Does it not break down your edge? And if you get too close, how does it not suck up the mulch?
