I had a similar violent roll in an evektor harmony during a breezy and thermally Nav flight recently. Took a hell of alot of opposite aileron and scared the ahot out of me as it came out of nowhere, haha.
It depends. If you've got everything strapped down, they're fantastic (though perhaps not VFR at times). The Brits use them (stubble fires) all the time.
