I love the 90s and everything about the 90s is downright radical, and this FPS game is one tubular experience. You GMAN are one dynamite dude for recommending me another awesome FPS game to enjoy.
90s anime aesthetic... Ultra-violent gameplay... Vaporwave OST... now give me some Crystal Pepsi and I'm all in! (Edit: I only listen to Simpsonwave. Vaporwave is too mainstream for me...)
It's sad that we never got enough Japanese made or anime style FPS games. Hopefully this will be a good start. Update: wow when did this get over 600 likes?!
Hell, you can barely see anime stylistic/modern Japan as a setting outside of fantasy JRPG's. The only thing that came to my mind is Persona/Yakuza and they both also RPG (yeah, Yakuza pretty close to RPG). But hey, at least there's still Shadow Warrior.
Mad Bull, Angel Cop, Demon City Shinjuku, Baoh the Visitor, Crying Freeman, Violence Jack, Ninja Scroll, Street Fighter 2 the animated movie, Ghost in the Shell... man the late 80 to 90s era anime was and still my preferred era of anime shows and movies. BTW thanks for the video gmanlives
The main character is a clear reference to the ultra badass Bean Bandit from the OVA Riding Bean and the manga called Gunsmith Cats. His car too is a reference to Beans car The 'Buff.
The nostalgia hit just the look of this game gives me is insurmountable. Everybody remembers the first time they watched a violent awesome anime for the first. It's a true moment where you are changed forever. I don't remember which my first one was but I know that I knew I was never going back after watching it.
@@arnox4554 well Epic gave up on UT as soon as Fortnite became popular. And most of the attempts by other companies to make similar shooters failed. If you look through the titles there were attempts, like TOXIKK, so people tried, but all failed
@@Shajirr_ I saw all those attempts and they were ALL pretty bad in at least one way. In fact, I daresay the last good arena shooter we got was way back in freaking 2004. If you count the consoles, then Halo Reach would be the last one, and that was 13 years ago. As to TOXIKK specifically, it was lacking in a fair few areas. I remember having an enlightening conversation with Sharkster on the Steam forums (that I would post here if I could) where he wouldn't listen to any suggestions whatsoever. The Arena Shooter genre hasn't taken off these days because we STILL have NOT had ANY game that has even equaled Unreal Tournament in both its gameplay and its breadth of features, much less exceeded it.
@@murmenaattori6 Well, at least Gman mentioned Ninja Scroll since they're both from Kawajiri. Cuz that guy just draws dudes with chins and jawlines that'd make the Crimson Chin blush with envy. And if I may ask, who was your favorite character in Cyber City OEDO 808?
gets extra points for bringing those 90s, 00s arcades look that I sorely miss; now its in your PC! . ... after all these years I just noticed those repeated trailers in shooter arcades that are supposed to pull you in and pop some coins, that's the menu screen tried to replicate too
Definitely keeping an eye on this one. Not super big into games with time limits as a main gameplay feature, as that kinda thing just gives me anxiety, but this one looks like it may be the exception to the rule.
@@12ealDealOfficial Eh, if you're having a blast and by extension playing decently, it's likely you won't even notice you're on the clock to finish a map.
Yeah I beat post void way quicker than I thought I would but I enjoyed my time with it and got a few friends to give it a go too. Good fun watching their reactions to a first run.
Man this games does certainly look very cool. I'd like to see you talk more about anime. It be cool to see you review some of your favorite anime one day Gman.
Didn't know you were an anime fan, and the fact you mentioned Ninja Scroll and Madbull, mad props. I'm a man of culture myself, and I'm glad to see this game is in the works. Feels like the ultra-violent 90s anime FPS game I've never knew I needed in my life, like seeing Guyver or Violence Jack in the modern era.
Hilarious that he's got that Solid Snake mullet going on; now I can't stop thinking about people trying to get Snake captured on livestream by setting off channel alerts.
2:00 - could just as easily be Bean Bandit’s red (heavily modified) muscle car from the Chicago-based OVA “Riding Bean” circa 1990 or 91. Bean also has a mullet. It’s on various free streaming sites and is worth a watch. Great soundtrack, too.
This game is just oozing with style, I love it definitely going to wish list it. I appreciate games that rewards aggressive gameplay, reminds me of bloodborne's regain.
LOVE the visuals of this game, thanks for sharing! Grew up in the same era you mentioned and watched and loved the same anime!! So yeah and your thumbnail had me thinking this was a 80-90s anime chill-mix LOL
Game looks wild. Really loving the successful return of these kinds of shooters with the likes of Boltgun and Post Void. Also that new outro is sick. Love a good right-hand drive
Ninja Scroll, GITS, Akira and Street Fighter 2 The Animated Movie were my introduction to anime (also way too young.) Needless to say, I was INSTANTLY spoiled when it came to action and animation quality. Today's animes have their charm, but it just can't scratch the itch that watching a 80's/90's LoFi/Synthwave AMV can.
The game is clearly influenced by a whole lot of retro anime but the one in my mind the most is definitely Megazone 23. Like the princess is clearly inspired by both Yui and EVE from said anime.
Finally a game where a true chad is the protagonist... Saving the princess and, i bet, bed her right on the still steaming corpse of the big bad guy who kidnapped her...
The main character himself reminds me of Bean Bandit/Roadbuster from Riding Bean/Gunsmith Cats who sported the same hair and glasses, also driving a car. There's even a scene where he slides the car to a full stop like in the main menu intro to this game.
Good to know that despite being a hardcore, gutsy badass, Jack is still willing to be relatable with many people on the internet today Also I appreciate your willingness to support my mother Gman, respect ✊😔
Fun fact, there was a real life soldier in World War 2 called Mad Jack.. he fought with a bow and claymore. He is stated to be the greatest adventurer of all time.
There is a game called Berserk Mode that is very similar in mechanics but set up as a dungeon crawl style roguelike with those same kind of 2d graphics with 3-5 backgrounds and the same constant life drain mechanic as a curse your character is inflicted with that makes you have to constantly kill enemies to keep yourself from dying and also allows you to go into "Berserk Mode" which transforms you into a beast form that you select at the start and can unlock more forms as persistent upgrades. Then you also have per run upgrades that you get at the start of each level in a run and you pick a weapon or a magical attack for each hand. Throwing Axes, Swords, Fireballs, Acid Sprays, Thorns you shoot out your hand like a gun, staves that shoot electricity, crossbows, ect ect. You can also choose to add additional curses at the start and in between each level that give you more money for upgrades or some kind of buff in exchange for the debuff you get from the curse like 50 percent more dmage but faster life drain, decreased movment speed for extra life, exploding enemies for extra money, ect ect. There is a lot of variety for sure and its got good smooth fast paced and chaotic combat but never so much you dont know whats going on. Plus its only 5 bucls
16:45 this badass closing was the first thing I tought when I got into contact with Mullet Mad Jack. "It's almost Gman!" Guess this could be a nice Easter Egg...!
This game looks and sounds gorgeous. Any reference to hotline miami gets me excited. I'm very glad RU-vid is as far as my social media exposure goes. Good lord society is strange.
Already had this one in my sights, the news that there's gonna be a demo is awesome. Also, that outro anim looks super cool, if the creators of a game would depict me being that cool, I'd review their game too
