Great stuff as always and the view angle is great! Is the camera pointing straight ahead perhaps a tad high? Here is another suggestion: attach a diffused led light below the cameras and point at the instrument panel. That way I think you would be able to get both instruments and the outside in good exposure (a bit more like the eye sees it). Question: Is the pole custom made or can it be bought?
Great video! In Canada it’s still in the syllabus and has to be demonstrated for both the PPL and CPL. During the PPL I had to demonstrate this without and with flaps. For the commercial I had to do this with full flaps and a 20 degree angle of bank turn at a minimum controllable airspeed with the stall horn on. It really made me feel more comfortable knowing that I could control an aircraft in a condition it shouldn’t normally be in.
Jason, your videos are so wonderful and informative. A dream of mine is to come to CA & take some lessons from you. I'm currently about to wrap up my instrument training at my university's flight program in KY and I've watched a lot of your videos to learn so much along the way. I'm in the Honors program and took a break from researching my honors thesis to watch this video after I got the notification. My thesis is about best practices in flight training and what should be required & expected of both students & instructors. My goal as a pilot is to be a career flight instructor. Maybe its the girl scout in me but I want to leave the arena of flight training better than I found it. You're a huge inspiration!
25 years ago, I had the privilege of having an instructor who hammered on MCA. After that, we did the several flavors of stall (power-on, power-off, straight, turning). He even “demonstrated “ an incipient spin when he thought my head was lost in my @$$. Maybe the expert opinions are that this training is of no value in the ppl curriculum, but I think mastering that corner of the envelope has helped inspire confidence in the man/machine interface.
Fine tuning that altitude control coming out of the MCA maneuver was a real sign of a pro. I might steal the idea for the camera mount. Except put it on the passenger side. Makes sense for you to have it left seat since your replicating what the student would see. Thanks for the videos
A chandelle is supposed to be finished at MCA. If the stall horn isn't blaring upon completion of a chandelle, you didn't achieve maximum performance. So, indirectly the maneuver still exists in the commercial ACS lol
Power to idle, Indiana Jones, but no mention of power back in? I believe power goes back in such that you don't climb or descend. Also when going idle you have carb heat on, so when adding power back turn off carb heat for max power. Also is doing this bad for engines?
Question, have you heard anything about extending the 24 month requirement to take your Instrument check ride when COVID broke out. Between that and then now the heavy smoke I have been pretty much grounded and time is running out.Thank you, Frazer
2 questions/observations: Was 235/235 confirming heading indicator matched compass? Am I missing it or would it be nice to also be able to see you manipulate the throttle visually?
Jason, really enjoy your insights... I share your videos with all my students (Mackey Aviation on FB) and they all say how much they learn from your videos. Currently working with 15 students. I'd like to recommend all my students use your Ground School App. I will look into the Free-Trial. I didn't notice a price. Where might I find the pricing on the App? You can also direct message me info through my Facebook page. Thanks again, Great Content !!!! - Kerry Mackey
Looks like Jason's on the keto diet!:-) Lowering the payload weight! haha! Jason, can you do a clip or provide a link to content that explains the difference between your online ground school and say, Gleim or King School? Is it a supplement or a variation? Or a better way to present the info? Your skills as an instructor and a pilot are above the bar. I still want to come down for lessons!
haha, thanks Jon! I'm tryin' :-) You can go here to learn more about our Ground School app -- www.getgroundschool.com Our learning system has all of the animations, HD video, and explanations that most other programs have but it is also very unique. The main differences are the spaced repetition we call "Knowledge Recall™" where the app measures your knowledge decay and prompts you will quizzes to "recharge" your knowledge. Over time, this ensures you remember things like visibility and cloud clearance requirements etc. We also use very unique evaluations we call "Tap Target" and "Drag and Match". You can get a full feature 3-day trial to check it out and see if it's right for you. The videos you see hear are coming in the next two weeks.
@@TheFinerPoints Thanks Jason! I will load the app today. These unique features deserve a video!? (Unless you have one posted:) How about telling your YT audience how and why you developed the "Knowledge Recall, Tap Target, and Drag and Match" features. Do you know of any decent flight schools in the valley? I am in Pioneer. JAQ. No rentals or instruction there. Calivaras has a one 150 that is always rented. Lodi? Sac? Anyone you reccomend out here? BTW. Does this RV12 make me look fat?? Haha!
When you are setting up for MCA, do you start adding power when you hear the stall horn? How much do you add? It seems to me that it would have to be a lot. Thanks!
It's called "slow flight" in the ACS now. It states 5-10kts above 1G stall and not activating the stall horn. Now, according to the FAA, stall horn = stall recovery.
