Hello friends,
In this video we head up to Aviemore and head out on a 30 mile trek taking in the Fords of Avon, and two old drovers routes the 'Lairig an Laoigh' and the 'Lairig Ghru'. It's a really good hike with the potential to bag a few peaks if you had the time, we visit the Fords of Avon refuge hut (little more than a shed for emergencies) and the famous Corrour Bothy. The route is pretty much the Fjallraven UK Classic route that will take place in September 2022.
The wind was a constant on this trip, which was a shame as I'd carried a drone for some arial shots but the wind was always too strong to fly it. Apologies for the odd sounding audio that you might hear, the GoPro microphone was struggling in the high winds.
Thanks for watching!
ATB
Ben.

Great video. You were a stone’s throw from the famous Bob Scott’s Bothy when you were at Derry Lodge. I’m hoping to head up that way next week.

Great that, I was in the Cairngorms 2 weeks ago and the winter weather forced a plan change. Part of it should have included the lairig and the corrour bothy so good to have a look. Keep them coming!

Well done guys. It is a rough place on a good day lol. My team was up there in mid May on a charity challenge but we had horrendous high winds that day. The boulders through the Ghur and the Charlamain gap are like walking over cannon balls, and the clink clink as they roll underfoot is certainly a real highlands sound, very exhaustive and technical though with total concentration on footing. We couldn't summit Macdui due to such high wind and very thick mist up there...... Went over to the Ben afterwards and had another extreme climb to the summit in some awful weather all the way up. Proper arctic blast at the top so didnt hang about too long. Bothy up there is a disgusting state though unlike the corrour. Really enjoyed your vid guys and look forward to more. Keep on trekking!

Hi Paul, I'd like to head back to Catalunya next year. Although you need to win the lottery to drive a hundred miles in this country now, hopefully the fuel prices aren't as daft in Spain. Until then I'll be getting a good look at Scotland I reckon, ATB mate.

@@Adventure-Outdoors unfortunately not much cheaper, it's gone from €1.10 ltr to €2.00 ltr. Don't know how much it is in France but I would guess €2.40 ltr. By next year it may have come down sufficiently to make long distance travel viable. I was planning on driving to Georgia via Turkey this year but that's been shelved 🤣. Hi mate. Kind of unrelated but it's possible I can get to Scotland from around the 6th Nov for around 4/5 days wild camping. I'd be flying into Edinburgh and picking up a hire car. Where do you reckon would be good within 2 or 3 hours from Edinburgh airport? Head westward? Won't have time to walk the WHW but finding a remote place I can drop the car and then some short hikes to wild camp is just what I need. Feel free to come along if you have the time! 🙂🙂🙂

@Adventure-Outdoors Год назад
Hi mate, sorry for the late reply, RU-vid didn't notify me about the comment. 4 or 5 days I'd say head towards the cairngorms from Edinburgh, Aviemore is a good base with a few options. Have a look at Loch Avon, it would be a good overnighter for sure. I'm heading up that way next week if the weather looks decent, hoping to check out Glen Feshie which you might also want to check out. You could also hike out to Corrour Bothy from Lin of Dee car park, it's a cracking area mate, lots of good areas to explore 👍

Hi mate. Typical Scottish weather by the looks of things! What's that tent, the MSR Elixer 2? Shame you're not too happy with it as the research i did on it seemed to be pretty positive. Still, looks like an awesome trip. Take it easy.

Hi Martin, it's an MSR Freelite 3 2022; roomy and light at only 1.3kg and served me well on the WHW but it's not a tent for exposed conditions. I honestly though it was going get flattened during the night 😂. Take care mate.

@@Adventure-Outdoors looks like a decent repair job you did on it. So many tents these days, some cheap last for ever and some expensive fall apart at the wind from a fart! Mr wild Wales channel has just done a review of a cheaper one and looks quite sturdy, given the design. Hoping to get the UK this year but reluctant to book a flight at the moment with all the cancellations etc, I can hear Scotland calling me! Not complaining mind, still have the Pyrenees where I'm off 5 days wild camping and hiking end of August, all being well. (Hopefully no bear prints this time! )
@Adventure-Outdoors
@Adventure-Outdoors 2 года назад
@@whatsnottohike Just got around to watching Wild Wales' review of that tent, looks solid once those trekking poles are in place. I got the repair done by MSR but it started to fail again, credit to them though as they sent me out a replacement inner tent last week. I'm not sure I'd recommend the tent though, it didn't come with a repair kit and the supplied pegs were shite, plus the tub floor is paper thin but you live and learn I guess. 5 days in the Pyrenees sounds good mate, make sure you camp near some cattle so if a bear turns up it'll go after them and not you!
@whatsnottohike
@whatsnottohike 2 года назад
@@Adventure-Outdoors it's nice of them to send a new inner but in all honesty, for that money you shouldn't have these issues. I think the Hubba Hubba is their best tent (going on reviews) lightweight and pretty big. The elixir 2 is also meant to be good. I have a Sierra designs clearwing 3 and apart from one of the loops coming off I'm happy with it although not really put it through its paces, I'm hoping it stands up to the Pyrenees. Thanks for the advice. It's a bit nerve-wracking as the latest number is 70 bears in the Val d'aran region. I'll take a pepper spray, to be safe 🙂 thanks again, look forward to the next video.

@Adventure-Outdoors
@Adventure-Outdoors 11 месяцев назад
I parked on the road just up from Glenmore Campsite, next the reindeer centre, loads of free roadside parking. You can drive up the dead end road to Glenmore Lodge where there is space for a few cars too but you need to get there early. I believe you can drive up to one of the carparks on Cairngorm Mountain (the ski centre) and park for a few days, not sure how much it costs though. Alternatively drive towards Mar Lodge and park at the Linn of Dee car park where you can head up towards Bob Scott's Bothy and join the route there. Those were the options that I found whilst researching the route. 👍
@Ballbagsaggins
@Ballbagsaggins 11 месяцев назад
Thanks, I was looking at the Linn of Dee car park but I think I would prefer to come from the Avimore end. Roadside parking is good enough for me as long as I don't get back to an empty spot and and angry farmer.😉
