I live on a small inner city lake. Moved here to have my own fishing spot. First couple of months, fishing was rough. Once I discovered carp in the lake and researched some popular carp fishing techniques....the rest is history! I was hooked! Glad the trip wasn't a total loss for ya!

Tom, hooray for perseverance and innovation. I'll take this opportunity to step on your thread and comment that I was so pleased with the almond tiger nuts you sent that I am now processing my own Chufa seeds--as you illustrated. After flailing around looking for the secret answers, my choice of hook baits is simplified; almond tiger nuts or spicy tiger nuts. Both are working. Possible personal best yesterday, judged by sight, on the spicy nuts. It rivaled others caught on almonds. I don't weigh them; don't really care. Thanks for all of the tutorials Tom; they have simplified things greatly; and I try to follow your methods closely. My 89th birthday next week and I recently found, after 12 years of passing it by, that a small residential lake 1.6 miles from home has gracious residents, carp, and shade trees. Ignore the no trespassing signs that the HOA posted, they say. Tell me I am not blessed.

We use a lot of corn as hookbait for Carp in South Africa.We flavour them all different kinds of flavour. Our pack baits consist of either a popcorn base pack bait or we cook corn and put them through a grinder to make pack bait. Some of those corn pips we then use as hook bait in either a hair rig or just hook it on the hook. We also use a bait we call a "floatie" . Its made from wheat flour and we also flavour them.

Bravo! 👏👏👏 Well done! I really enjoyed this vlog too! Maybe this is your best vlog so far, because you managed to overcome all possible obstacles and in the end have excellent catches! First, you didn't bring your own baits, so you were forced to try what you brought, but you blew me away with the sweet potatoes that you used in the best possible way! 👏👏👏 As for the grass and the speedboat, it is not worth wasting words because you have also successfully solved that problems, first by looking for a suitable place and then by re-plenishing the place and the last day, the net was filled, not only with grass, but also with an excellent catch! 😉 You took out more weed than that gentleman before... 😂😂😂 I hope your family enjoyed it at least as much as your followers on YT. We also knead bread and use it as a hook bait and dip it in flavour. Usually brown bread and the yellow of an egg kneeded well. Can also flavour with curry powder.

I've used potato as hook bait for carp I use the canned potatoes and boil them for 7 minutes works great got the idea from another you tube channel TA Fishing.

Went to visit family in the UK, booked a lakeside cottage for 3 days with the fam with carp up to 36ib. Fished one day and left even though I spent so much on the booking. The lake was covered in silk weed. Spoke to the owner he said ‘you think ur bait is not presented but it is, it’s just when you reel in that ur picking up weed’ didn’t buy it for 1 minute I even used a RC bait boat. Anyway couple of days later booked a lodge with a friend on a small clay lake for 2 nights and had 5 20’s amongst smaller fish. Gutted I lost the money on the cottage for a night of weed but you live and learn.

I really enjoy your videos and the way you fish, but I have to disagree with you saying corn is a terrible hook bait. In my experience, corn is the number one hook bait for carp. But that is just my opinion. Lol. Keep up the good work. 👍

Yes, carp love corn, but so does every other creature in the water. It gets ripped off the hair and stolen easily, and that is why I regard canned corn as a terrible hook bait. Thanks for watching.

Steelhead fishing this week on the Columbia river was about the same. Slimy grass was being pushed downriver which would encase our plugs in minutes. It turned into a "why even bother?" Situation.

Bacon grill luncheon meat is great for carp in warm water corn bread paste maple peas but maize and tiger nuts will catch all carp chum a big area and fish the edges

Nice vid! You could definitely feel the bummed out vibe in the beginning, but you hung in there . Glad your able to take away something positive after all - Not sure how id feel paying 1200 for a waste of lakefront property though seems a bit shady to me. The property owner should disclose that before hand - IMO.

Maybe if nothing else you found a new hook bait what do you think of the sweet potatoes do you think they would replace your tiger nuts or will you use the sweet potatoes again? That sucks the trip didn't turn out like you expected. Love all the video's.

Well Tom I would say the last 4 or 5 hours of your trip made a bad trip into a pretty good one. And I also know being that I have a lovely wife and not so lovely X-wife it made that 5 hour drive home a lot happier one. Do you get your oats at the grocery store? Ive been looking into buying feed oats seems like a cheaper option but cant find steam rolled oats as thats what everyone suggests

@OutsidewithTom Thanks brother. Started using tiger nuts soaking in Tabasco and lemon juice recently and they work great in spots with lots of turtles.
