That’s saving a read (which is a great thing to do!) not conditioning. “Conditioning” your opponent by letting them recover for free 3 times is not worth 1 read
Yeah, I agree that in a vacuum, it's better to just edgeguard every time. But I also know my own limitations vs. Sheik when it comes to being terrible at edgeguarding and avoiding the poof, and I generally was not only not being successful in my matches against this person but I often was ending up being punished myself when going offstage. So in this case, being very conservative with picking edgeguarding opportunities was a tactical decision based on an assessment of my own ability to successfully execute a particular strategy. Perhaps it's splitting hairs, but I do think my opponent was "conditioned" into thinking they could recover low for free, and then I decided to finally risk going offstage for a punish when the upside wasn't just a stock, but a victory. And it worked out. I don't think they would have put themselves in that position if I had attempted/flubbed edgeguard attempts to cover low recovery throughout the match. And again, I might have ended up being gimped myself and never making it to a last-stock situation. Regardless of whether we agree on these things, thank you for watching and commenting. 😊
