thanks for a solid video for going straight to the point, instead of spending 10 minutes telling viewers to wash their hands and between fingers and dry with a clean towel!!
Hi doc! I'm wondering if there could be any benefit to using two types of contact lens solution, such as using a multipurpose solution nightly, and using the peroxide solution once a week? Or do you think that proper and diligent use of a multipurpose solution (such as rubbing lenses, using new solution every time, etc.) would make the peroxide solution unnecessary? Curious to hear your thoughts.
Hey Jesse! I think both multipurpose solution and peroxide have their own role in contact lens care! I generally start people on MPS and have them comply with proper hygiene and if that doesn’t work then the next step is to go for a more potent peroxide derivative. As a clinician I also take into consideration the ease of use and convenience of wearing contacts so if MPS can do what it needs you to do then there’s probably no need for peroxide!
Ive been wearing contacts for ages. I always use multipurpose to disinfect and store them. Recently, I tried AO Sept Plus with HydraGlyde. I followed the instructions to leave the lenses for a minimum of 6hrs for the special case to neutralize the solution. The instruction said it’s safe to wear after 6hrs and so. But my vision tends to be blurry. So I guess what I’m gonna do, weekly I will use hydrogen peroxide, and use the multipurpose solution daily.
I had similar encounter after AOSEPT isn't available. I think they change it to clear care plus w Hydraglyde. My vision becames foggy and cloudy and I am suspecting there's some issues with the solution. Been using AOSEPT for years and did not encounter this situation.
Antonio, I have a question. If we should not use saline solution to store contact lens, why are they store in saline solution after made in the original package? Are they different kind of Saline?
Nice video, when I used to use bi-weekly contacts I noticed a significant difference over time when I switched from multipurpose to peroxide, and now I know why :). Oddly, though, whenever I used the version with hydraglyde my contacts would get a little foggy and sting a bit after a couple hours, but the other product from the same mfr was fine. Also side note regarding tap water, is acanthamoeba a risk for treated water as well? I’m in the water treatment industry and know it’s not well-studied on our end.
I was told I should not use eye drops while wearing contacts, why is this? I have been using Refresh single use eye drops for years for dry eyes, but recently started wearing contacts (still in the trail period). My sister told me I can use the multipurpose solution instead - it is not easy to use as eye drops - I use Bio-True Lens Solution.
Hi about four years ago I started having problems with the hydrogen peroxide solutions. I got in a new order. And after wearing contacts that's had been disinfected in them my eyes hurt. The pain was incredible. One time I couldn't open my eyes for two days. I found Walgreens H2O2 and it worked great. But I don't think they make it any more. Can you recommend anything. Basic as possible!! No preservatives... Thanks
