Multidirectional hillshade? It's a bunch of uni-directional hillshades all smashed together. More or less. Here is a construction and deconstruction of the technique.
In which I also appear and draw stuff on a whiteboard.

This is very helpful. I am taking a cartography class and what you just explained in a matter of minutes was brilliant. I encourage you to please post more of these practices as your material is a great reinforcement and summary of topics being learned.

I definitely realize the video quality is poor. Not sure if I can crank up the quality on this little web cam. Though, I do look better with some blur.

it does not matter (I mean quality :D ) the important is content. it is very useful! I practice it looks very nice! DEMx(50%tranperency)+SlopeX(50%tranperency)+TraditionalHillshadeX(50%tranperency)+SlopeX(50%tranperency)=Multidirectional Hillshade(pretty looks)

I did 15 scenes of this for Lake Tahoe area and while it looked very close to relict there were some discrepancies still

Make a video about generalization of a hillshade. For a continental area.
