If you search around, you can find private groups to join. A good source that I've found was the DCS Facebook page. You can also look here as well for a private group - forum.dcs.world/clubs/ As for good campaigns, unfortunately, there haven't been many for the F-16 in DCS. Really the only one that I have found to be awesome was Red Flag here - www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/campaigns/f-16c_red_flag_21-1_campaign/ And of course, you can always fly Operation Hidden Scimitar! It's only a single mission, but I've had good reviews so far! And I made an animated briefing for it as well. This is gonna be long. . . Honestly... I may need to make a video about it. There are others out there that go over this, but every one of them is personal opinion. So here's my "Personal Opinion". Do not take this as the ultimate end all answer. This is just my personal opinion, you would have to decide what is best for you. DCS is "Free to play".... and you can download it and fly the SU-25T with a mouse and keyboard. Will it be fun? Yes. Will you get the most out of what DCS has to offer? NO. I played DCS "single player" for many years. When I was doing that, I had a Logitech X52 (Right now about $120 on amazon) - www.amazon.com/Logitech-Saitek-Flight-Control-System/dp/B01LY285ZH That's all I had. I didn't have any other hardware, and I loved playing DCS with just that. The only module I owned in the beginning, was the Flaming Cliffs package. This comes with a few aircraft (All non-clickable cockpits, but fun nonetheless, and capable even now) - www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/dcs_flaming_cliffs_3/ If you don't care about the other aircraft in there, you can purchase them individually for like $15 each. HOWEVER..... once I finally got TrackIR, I couldn't go back to looking around the cockpit with the hat switch on my joystick anymore. It changed everything for me. I can never go back. I always have to have a head tracker now. But I was perfectly fine with it before I had experienced head tracking, so, take that for what it's worth. Kind of a "If you haven't experienced it, you wont know what you're missing" thing. Head tracking increased my experience in DCS tremendously. I highly recommend it, but it is absolutely NOT required in order to enjoy the sim. Now, let me say this though, if you want to dogfight in MP with other humans....you will struggle very hard with keeping tally on your opponent without head tracking. It's possible, but head tracking will make it soooooooo much easier. I have TrackIR - www.trackir.com/ -OR- I know people who love opentrack, and its free as long as you have a webcam - github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases All that to say, DCS is fun. You don't need a full hydraulic motion seat and VR, in order to enjoy it. Though, having the advanced hardware stuff will ABSOLUTELY increase your immersion and fun. Will you get a lot out of DCS with just a cheap HOTAS and a cheap nonclickable cockpit aircraft? YES! Will it be 10 times better once you have a MONSTER PC with VR, Flight Seat, $800 HOTAS setup? YES!, it's all about what you want to get out of DCS. The beauty of it is that you can get as little or as much out of it as you want. Some games out there, this isn't possible. DCS, however, can provide as much enjoyment as you have time/money/patience for.

You have to edit the original cockpit textures in either PhotoShop or Gimp, then export it with the NVidia Texture Tools Exporter - developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-exporter. I use BC7 RGBA 8bpp Explicit Alpha.

Tactical DCS has training nights that they take up new players or just anyone who wants to learn a new aircraft. They are VERY welcoming and friendly. I put a link to their discord server in the description above. And then Viper crew if you just really like the Viper.

Sounds like you would be a great candidate for a private group! I learned more faster in a private group than I ever did on my own.

IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) training hood. That video, I was going through some IFR training with a real Corporate pilot.

no, probably a hood to train IFR flying, simulating IMC while the back seater/instructor has no curtain, for safety. It's in a trainer aircraft as well.
